Help!! Dog Urine on my beautiful wool rug!!!
Comments (10)I would get take it to be professionally cleaned. They wash wool rugs. For cleaning 2- 10x11s a 3x5 and a 5x8 it cost us $340. And I would have them store it while you work with your dog. We had just gotten a puppy and got a few pee spots on the rug so we took that opportunity to take all the wool orientals out to be cleaned and stored while we housetrained. Only then did the rugs come home. The rugs came home smelling clean i. e. no odors. Then we got another new puppy but took the rugs up before he could hit them. :) We havent needed to have them cleaned since we put them down after the second dog was housebroken. I dont know how old your dog is but its my understanding that if they pee in the house they are not truly housebrokenn no matter the age (elderly and sick dogs are different). I heard this from a reputable dog trainer. Got more information than you wanted I think, but that is the only way to take care of it and prevent it. As a 2 big dog family, I know. Wool rugs are a big investment and we want ours to last a good while. HTH Sue...See MoreGood source to order wool broadloom?
Comments (2)Thank you skyedog. The Morris area rug you linked to is beautiful and would probably work size-wise. I had already looked at ebay when I was trying to decide if I could find a pattern I could afford that I also liked. The problem is that after trying a several patterns, I've concluded that to stay true to my "vision" of the house, I need to keep the pattern clean. I have a hand tufted oriental (I plan to return to O.co) whose colors go perfectly with the room, but the pattern really makes the room look too traditional and I'm striving for a cleaner, modern effect. My husband really likes the rug and wants to keep it. It doesn't look bad, but its busyness takes the focus away from more important pieces in the room. Also, the ideal size is and almost square, which is unusual for a rug (the Morris rug is that shape!. The only way to have all the parameters come together is to get broadloom cut and bound to size, and I'm trying to find a source that's a bit more affordable. The rug I like best is $102/sq yd locally and $88 from the NC retailer....See MoreCan you elp me with wool rug/decorating advise please?
Comments (8)I tend to be willing to pay more to support local businesses and to sustain good relationships with them, but $400 is a bit of a jaw-dropping amount. Yes, I would ask, but (a) I would not necessarily ask for the full $400 difference. After all, if she says no, you have roll up this rug, take it back or be there for someone to pick it up, order the other one on line, see if it's in stock, PAY SHIPPING, wait for it, unpack and unroll it... well, you get the idea. Depending on how complicated its removal is, $100 or so worth of your time may be secured in the fact that this rug is already in your home. (b) watch the timing and the tone. Keep in mind that if she says no, you still have to arrange and complete the return transaction (and finish the couch transaction if I understand correctly). In fact, if it's easy to roll up and handle (negating point a), you could even roll it up, put it in the car, and go ask her in person - then if she says no, it's a quick return and clean getaway. Also remember that if the online seller turns out to be out of stock, you'll want to come back! (c) maybe you could tie it to further purchases for another rug, if she has something in her store that you like. As in, if I buy this one and a smaller one, could you discount both of them? Finally, rugs off craigslist - keep in mind that you probably would want to get a CL rug cleaned right away, and that usually costs a hundred or two. You also often have to spend hours on CL looking for the right size/colour combination to come up, plus arrange a time to view and drive to wherever the rug is. In other words, it's about your time again. I've pretty much found that what I save in money shopping on CL, I spend in time and gas (I have driven an hour out of town to get a $15 lamp after exchanging 300 emails trying to find a mutually convenient day and looking at lamp listings ad infinitum. Was it really a $15 lamp?). So it all depends on how important your time is. Those are some of the things I would be thinking. Above all, check what the online seller would charge to ship the rug. Price plus shipping is the real competing price. KarinL...See MoreTrying to find on line source for all white area rugs
Comments (7)Home Decorators seems to have several alternatives for creating your own. The one I have linked would be a more traditional feel, with the three rectangular fields. custom rug You don't say what size you need, what you want to spend, or what you mean by 'texture for interest". Do you want a sculpted pattern in the rug, or do you want the rug fibers to have texture like a friese? I assume from your description that this is going in a traditional setting - is there a reason you want an all white area rug, versus something with some color?...See Moresushipup1
