Kind of Off Topic, but regarding 'The Resilient Gardener' /ebooks
Comments (5)It's very different to read e-books on e-reader devices compared to reading them on a computer screen. You notice the computer screen doesn't have the same dimensions as e-readers and there's other technical stuff. The e-books are not made to be printed and never were. They used to let you print a certain amount of the book way back when but if they let you print the whole book then what would stop you from printing it and giving it to friends. The same with cut and paste. The e-reader are much easier on the eyes and once you get used to how your device works, it becomes more like a book. The biggest drawback is lack of color. Most are black and white and the color devices are back to glaring screens and low battery life. I really think these devices work well for people that read lots of text only books. (Think of all the non-fiction out there.) They allow you to carry many books, and have search and bookmark and such capabilities at your finger tips. You can purchase a book on the fly with the right reader and have access instantly. Not to mention, no trees died and no water was used to print the book. Not everyone likes them. I was hesitate but after using one, I see how I could really use it to carry all the gardening reference books I use. That would allow me to show novice gardeners what's available out there and let them see table of contents and read some of the text. (I can even lend them the book for a limited timeframe.) The biggest downside is I can't use reference texts that need color and long battery life....yet....See MoreOff Topic Question - Water Hose - NOT soaker
Comments (12)When my soaker hoses used to get enough pressure they sprayed. But I know what you mean. The whole length of the hose was kind of like a sprinkler. Haven't seen one for years, and I don't remember what they were called. Sprinkler hose maybe? You could drape them over things or even make a circle for kids to run through them. Good luck. kathy...See MoreKind of OffTopic --- Got raccoons, need help
Comments (7)Dave, bait a trap with pecans, these guys will eat even the ones we'd put in the discard pile. Raccoons will do almost anything for a nice pecan, including come right up and take them out of your hand if you give it a little time. I have a couple of them on my property but they never bother my garbage cans because I don't put food waste in it until the actual day of pick up. I freeze all meat scraps, bones etc, and the big bonus is that my garbage men love me, lol, my garbage never stinks....See MoreOff Topic Question
Comments (13)sharbear50(6a Bella Vista) - Hi, my son was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 13. He has been on all kinds of meds. He used Enbrel until that quit working and now is using Celebrex. A natural product that he has found to give him additional relief is Turmeric. In cultures that are thousands of years old, there tend to be deep traditions of cooking daily meals with medicinal roots and herbs. Turmeric is one such medicinal root that has made its way into many Indian recipes. Research shows that turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and antioxidant properties. Inflammation, if left untreated, can become a chronic health issue. And unlike aspirin or ibuprofen, turmeric's curcumin reduces inflammation naturally, without damaging the liver or kidneys.
