Have you checked your local 2nd hand stores? Habitat for Humanity Restore? Good will? Salvation army? Auction house? For your purpose, not inside the front door filled with beautiful art pieces, I (maybe not you) would look for something for less than $50 and if necessary a gal. of paint. Price the unfinished upper cabinets in the big box store.

I also don't think these are 60's pieces. Maybe late 70's at the earliest, but probably later. I agree maybe make a $300 offer. I do like the look of the doors. Armoires are a dime a dozen and they are cheap.

As someone with a smaller home, I can relate to the need for something smaller/thinner. Do you have Ikea near you? You also might want to look into Billy/Benno systems.

Def. not 60s - TVs were in consoles or out in the open then - that looks so 80s/90s - & kind of scruffy to boot...

It's post VCR, so it's 80s, probably. The idea that it is three pieces makes it okay, but the TV piece is the sort of thing that can't be given away anymore in a lot of markets because it's meant to house an obsolete technology, and would need to be modified to make it useful.

much that I love it anyway but I would like to start out with a somewhat
cohesive look and it jives with my cool big vintage desk. What I do
like is the size (particularly the depth) and the areas of storage fit my purpose
to a T. I even have a storage use for that TV section. I’m pretty sure she will
not get $300 in my area. She has my number. In the mean time I’ll check the CL
free section where this sort of set-up often lands. Maybe if I get caught up
with some other things around here since my trip I’ll visit some local thrifts
or the Habitat re-homing center. I don't need perfect as its likely to get paint on it but it does need to be right in other ways.

That sort of TV armoire could NOT have existed in the 1950s, in a 17" deep cabinet. The TVs were HUGE.

It's post-VCR era, and could easily have shelves or a hangar area added for projects. $500 for all 3? I'd offer $300.

Probably sold for $300 when new. Probably from those oak furniture stores of 70's and 80's. No way is it considered mid-century except in vaguest sense.

I thought the same as sushipup and was surprised that people thought $300 was a good offer.

Those cell phone pics aren't helpful to see condition or type of wood.

You mentioned you had to drive kind of far to get this set. I recommend passing unless the price is dropped significantly.

I bet the price will. I've watched things on CL where the asking price is ridiculously high. I'm specifically thinking of a cool vintage Kenmore sewing machine in an MCMish desk and matching chair. Not something that pops up often. For weeks and weeks they were asking too much. Then the priced dropped to below a reasonable price. It may have finally sold, IDK, i was looking for just a chair to go with an old sewing table (which eventually turned up, not too far, reasonably priced).

Overpriced items sit and sit, and it seems like if the item isn't popular then you have a good shot of acquiring the items for a steal. Watch this set while you keep looking.

I'm going to keep a close eye on the craigslist "free" section. This would not fit my needs but still looks better than a lot of the for sale units. It went fast. I heard back from the gal I put the $100 offer into and she said she would let me know by the end of the week. In the mean time I'll keep looking.

I was going to ask if you loved it. If not, I wouldn't buy it. I agree that it is not 1950's but may be marketed that way to try to justify a higher price for wall storage. Glad you are going to keep looking. Good luck in your search.

Thanks Lascatx! No I don't love it but the storage is perfect for my stuff. This isn't something that will be seen much by others though and it will take a beating as far as being in a smallish space with me getting back into oils and such. Yesterday when I put in my $100 bid I pointed out the 1950's error in her ad. She hasn't changed it and it has come out in her emails that she has a store. I have been looking only in the "owners" section. I think she is dishonest so I'm no longer interested. She says it's solid wood but I imagine it's pressed cardboard in real life.

Yep, I'm with you, I'd walk away from that kind of seller. I'm sure she's using the mid century bit in hopes of getting more money out of it. She's probably very young and anything older than what she remembers seeing in her lifetime is Mid Century. I'm not putting down youth, but what I've seen on for sale sites, that's often the case. Some of very savvy about MCM because they love it.
