What a company charges for pop corn!!!!!!!!
Comments (18)I'm going to be the voice of dissent here. As an ebay seller, I always add a handling charge to my shipping. You're not only paying for the shipping( 1lb package is 4.60 plus delivery conformation(.65 cents if you dont use paypal shipping), but you're also paying for packing supplies. I pack my items very well and I spend 30.00 on 2 rolls of bubble wrap. I also count the gas to drive to the post office and the bridge tolls I pay( I live in Ontario, but I ship from MI). Its not cheap to ship anymore!! Granted, I dont know how much their popcorn weights, but even if it was 1lb, 4.60 would be the minimum for shipping. Then you have the carton, the packing material, etc. PS: I have NOTHING to do with that company!!...See MoreGraduating from corn popper coffee roaster to Gene Cafe? Behmor?
Comments (4)Dcarch I think the coffee community would think french fries in a coffee roaster was utter blasphemy. You MUST try it. Each roast in my corn popper does only enough for one day's coffee (85 grams) and takes about 7 minutes. Then 5 or 6 minutes to cool down before the next batch. The corn popper has easily paid for itself and is easy to use, but I want to do at least half a pound in each roast, so just another corn popper doesn't cut it. Right now I also am not very impressed with either of the two I listed. They are indeed expensive to repair--and they seem to need repair fairly often. Burman Coffee says the Gene Cafe is their favorite. I am hoping to hear from someone who has one or the other. They seem to me to be tricky to use and, according I think to Sweet Maria's, to have only a two year life expectancy. That's not long for an appliance that costs several hundred $$$. I also posted a query on the Appliances Forum and have a few responses there. I must admit I have been thinking of trying your rotisserie roaster technique. My Capital range has a rotisserie. Can you post details of how you do the roasting? Temperature and time? I think I can find your instructions for making the basket. Comments (6)You can buy peanut oil in quarts at the grocery stores. Do not ever use olive oil at high temps or you will get smoking. You can adjust the smoke point of olive oil by adding a bit of other oil though but not enough for deep frying. Grapeseed oil is a nice oil for high temps and it does not impart a heavy flavor. Also coconaut oil wich is solid at room temp and is more often found sold along side the popcorn at the stores than the in the oil section....See MoreWhat kind of food storage containers do you use?
Comments (32)I hate disappearing lids! For that reason I use the Rubbermaid that the lid snaps to the bottom, and the set as advertised on TV that all fits inside each other and have the lids attached. They are great. I too have glass Pyrex but the red lids keep splitting and I wash by hand. I keep a supply of the cheap ziplock in the cabinet too. Those I don't mind giving away....See More- 11 years ago
