What kind of dolly do you use to move large containers?
Comments (4)I built a dolly to move trash cans filled with discarded soil, but slightly over-engineered it. It is made of a piece of pressure-treated wood 2x2 feet, with four boards fitted lengthwise beneath that, and four wheels attached, each of which can support 125 pounds or so. It cost about 20 dollars total to make, and is extremely sturdy. The 2-wheel type is probably your best bet, though....See Moreglass food storage containers
Comments (12)I regularly smash my way through my stash of glass baking/microwave containers. I use these for refrigerator storage also, like those who avoid plastics. Not long ago, Pyrex casseroles came with lids that were flat, with handles on sides. They can double as plate-sized microwaveable shallow containers. Now I can only buy them at used-stuff sales; they have been supplanted with lids that have center knobs. Frequently we grab a plate from the cupboard to cover a casserole of leftovers now, because we need a low-clearance lid that allows something to stack on top of the casserole in our normal-sized refrigerator. (By the way, the same trick works if you need a make-do lid for a crock pot.) Anyone know if there are low-clearance no-knob Pyrex casserole lids sold new today?...See MoreOT: Food Storage Containers : Moldy Gaskets
Comments (22)Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really see the difference between glass and plastic containers because the lids are all plastic anyway, including the lids of my glass containers. wintercat: I have always wanted some glass containers, but they are so expensive that I have never gotten any. I believe the difference is only that the container is glass and reheating something in it will not extract plastic residue since it is glass and presumably the lid is removed. I already had a couple of those old Corning Ware mini pans (and just found three more) to use for reheating small portions. Originally I had some plastic lids for them, but they were already long gone. Perhaps some will fall into my hands some day. Until then, I just use Saran Wrap or aluminum foil for storage. "The gaskets are of a hollow core and the OD of them are very them" What does this mean? olychick: my initial assumption (still held) is that a1an is a touch typist and meant to type 'very thin' and made a duel typo into 'very them'. Admittedly, I didn't originally see that it was an 'm' rather than the 'n' that I imagined was there, but I have often found myself typing a character from the same finger but wrong hand, and have done the 'm/n' thing as well....See MoreWhat kinds of foods do you freeze
Comments (30)I tend to stock up on things if I find a great sale (I watch ads pretty closely, so I know what a "regular" sale price is and if it occurs frequently enough to not need to buy more than a few). Shredded cheese, for example, or butter or frozen vegetables or crescent rolls or post holiday turkey. Sometimes items that the local store is discontinuing and has marked down (like the Spanish potato omelets from the "Taste of Spain" promotion). I freeze all kinds of meat & poultry (I buy my fish frozen too); like so many of you do, I repackage it into single serving or single meal portions. Pine nuts, ginger root, half a recipe of cake batter left over. And several pumpkins, roasted, cubed and packed into freezer bags to last me all year. I don't do that much vegetable gardening but this year I had a great crop of roma tomatoes and froze them whole. In fact I got some out tonight and roasted it to eat with spaghetti squash....See MoreUser
