Does any one have any experience with?
Comments (3)Well, I went with a solid brick raised terrace rather than piered decking so there wouldn't be a drainage problem against the house foundation. I suppose the latticing you plan can be backed by screening but if they're determined, they'll hang their nests under your deck stairs. Houses have landscaping and lights that attract bugs and spiders which are handy food for wasp larva. The bug bomb under the deck sounds like the easiest solution. On the deck at my other house I had the guys install a collar of two boards wide, parallel to the foundation and attached with easy to remove screws. This way, when it's time for termite treatments it is easy to get that treatment right there at the foundation in an area that seems always moist and shaded..a termite favorite....See MoreSee any problems with cabinets over a sink?
Comments (18)Zone 8, Thanks for the idea, and Owl for checking out your mom's setup. Luckily the sink isn't for pots, just drinks. I am trying to keep the bumping into the cook at a minimum, especially since my sink is so close to my stove. I really like everything being close, fewer steps, but a secong water faucet would make life so much better. We don't drink sodas so everything is homemade, and of course, water based. I already have my plan. Since we added the second sink, the space above it would be perfect for a cabinet for glasses if it would fit above the sink. Maybe I should consider just doing a shallow cab. I only need to keep rows of glasses, nothing major. Thanks for the ideas. They really get my brain working in the right direction. I wanted to be sure what I wanted now, before a cabinet designer trys to sell me more of something that won't work. I am sure they will have some great ideas though....See MoreAny one have all knobs or pulls on doors but knobs on drawers
Comments (7)Knobs on the uppers-all doors, pulls on the lowers-mix of doors and drawers. Here's my reasoning: the pulls won't catch on my clothing or on the grandkids...and it's easier to put the child safety cabinet locks through the pulls. I don't know if either of those issues apply to you but our 5 visiting munchkins range in age from 12 months to 9 years so we needed to consider their safety in some of our decisions. I'm in the process of marking off the hole so DH and I can install the hardware tonight when he gets home...if I absolutely hate it I'll let you know. That's my 2-cents worth....See MoreWhich (if any?)of these 3 Possible Solutions for Cabinet Problem?
Comments (10)and why haven't DW manufacturers figured out how to make their DWers so you can get them out after you've put in new flooring? Raising the counter would be easiest just because you wouldn't have to UNdo anything, but it might look a tad funny, I don't know. If you're *willing* to take out the cabinets and set them on a higher level, that will solve two problems. That might be the way I'd go, if I had time & energy. And yes, it's MUCH easier to build from scratch than to remodel--though of course you'd end up w/ some stuff like this anyway. As to that cabinet: you're keeping the old cabinets, right? If you want to cut the front corner off, perhaps you should just make a NEW little cabinet there, and finish it to match the old ones. (if you're refacing or repainting then this is even easier). If you make it skinnier AND angle the front by clipping the corner, you might even be able to put a door on it , bcs since it's going at an angle, the door could be wider (it doesn't already have a door, right?). And in this, you could also make the cabinet from scratch (a local cabinet maker or an unfinished-furniture place might be able to help w/ that). I also like the idea of putting in a new cabinet that opens on the end; it could be a bookshelf, or even just an actual cabinet w/ doors. Then you could store stuff just one deep. Stuff for setting the table, maybe. It's a little bit "around the corner" for cooking supplier, I guess. And I like the angled-corner idea; I think it visually makes you think you have more room, even if you don't. Good luck!...See Morekeith limepie
