What Have You Been Doing So Far This Week?
Comments (9)Monday--appt. with my urologist (he released me, tests were all good and he doesn't want to see me unless I have more kidney stones); ran to the bank, laundry, then DH and I had our regular check-ups that night. Yesterday--had to run to the nursing home for yet another loose end to tie up, puttering around here. Then DH and I went out to grab a quick dinner and make a Home Depot run to get paint chips for the living room (finally picked out furniture, need to paint now, before it arrives). Today? Mostly spent the day clearing the driveway and sidewalks. And another foot to come tonight--YUCK! Did call the Surrogate's Office to postpone my appt. from tomorrow to next week--that will will wait. Hope DH filled the snowblower with gas when he got home. I like to get it done while he's at work so he doesn't have to worry about it when he comes home....See MoreWhat Have You Accomplished so Far Today?
Comments (28)I got up around 8am today and started the first of two loads of laundry, plus washed DD's competiton gym leotard separately. Then I started on her hair do for the meet today. Whew! That is an accomplishment! It's all about the hair, ya know. Did this tricky little spider-web thing that's become popular, then back in a ponytail, then the ponytail curled into spirals. Took about 15 tiny little clear elastics and a dozen little foam curlers, a handful of hair gel and a couple dozen squirts of hairspray. And over an hour of my time. ;o) That was extra special, usually I give it a really good ponytail, but very rarely go that extreme. I was feeling generous, and she asked so nicely. ;o) Here's the idea. This was taken tonight, after the meet, after 1000 tugs on the ponytail and lots of tumbling loosened the curls (and it doesn't hold curls very well, either). Honest, it was tight curls. Next time I'll remember to take the pic before the meet. While that set, and the laundry was drying, I cleaned out the van and went up for an oil change and the emmissions test. Then back home, made lunch for the family, showered and changed myself. Then we drove an hour to the gymnastics meet. Did that, had dinner, got back around 9pm DD accomplished some good scores! She had a great meet and finishsed first place all around in her age group and session. That is a first for her, so it was very exciting. She has been struggling with bars for a couple months, but today also finished first on bars, another first. And she's going to leave her hair like that for a couple days. ;o) Took me too long to take it back out already. I am not skilled with it, I have to compensate by taking my time and concentrating. I even tell her not to talk to me while I'm working on it, which is *really* hard for her. LOL! BTW, DD is 9. Now I'm going to crawl into bed with a book. Tomorrow is another day, and I have other tasks that have been waiting all week. Like getting caught up on my online class....See MoreHow am I doing so far with my budget - large kitchen!
Comments (15)Gooster, Our appliance budget is high... it kind of snowballed. We were originally going to keep some of the appliances since they work perfectly (15 years old, most are Whirlpool Gold). When we started looking into things the Viking Cooktop and double oven wasn't that much more, the Sub Zero beverage center wasn't that much more, etc so we decided to get new appliances. The real budget buster was the Sub Zero French Door refrigerator which is about $10K. We have a 1 year old counter depth French door Samsung fridge and we weren't planning to replace it. However I did not realize these larger refrigerators (36" x 84") require different cabinetry so we started designing it to fit the Sub Zero (for the future) and then just decided to replace the Samsung and bite the bullet. (We have a 2nd kitchen in our basement that we will use the fridge in). My husband is still boggled by the $10K fridge, lol. He keeps asking what else it does besides keep food cold, lol....See MoreWho went conservative/budget on appliances?
Comments (101)Yes, they explained what was wrong and had good pictures of the issues. The scuffs on the cooktop were livable to us. In fact, they took a little pressure off trying to keep the unit looking pristine, lol, so I didn't have to feel guilty about leaving the first imperfect mark. The ovens were "open box", and pictures of it were included as well. They were still sold with warranties, except for cosmetic issues. I did have a problem a few weeks ago with the face of the oven control panel coming loose and dropping down. This is when I found out we weren't covered for cosmetics. Fortunately, my hubby was able to fix it with some double sided tape frome Home Depot. When he went to put it back together, he found a section of double sided tape that wasn't attached properly during the manufacturing process. Only one side of the stick- um was atached. They never peeled the paper backing off the other side of the tape. So, even $$$ appliances can have manufacturing mistakes. When we were appliance hunting, I tried to look up reviews on the appliances I came across. Viking comes to mind as one that I steered clear of based on reviews, and an appliance salesman who told us to avoid them, even though there were some good deals on Craigslist for these. It's tough to go on reviews alone, though, because happy owners are often busy living their lives, rather than leaving reviews. It's the disgruntled owners that have been dealing with the headaches that are more likely to leave feedback. In this case, I try to look for common themes to the problems to see if it's a problem I'm comfortable dealing with or not. F. E. Our Old Maytag Gemini repeatedly had complaints that the touch pad buttons were hard to push. Guess what? All those folks were right! They were hard to push! But a little extra finger exercising every time I went to use my stove was a livable annoyance....See Morer2d2indy r2d2indy
