How to Hang a 30lbs Framed Bath Mirror?

Hi,

I have a 30"x40"; 30lbs framed bathroom mirror to hang.

Since I will not be hitting a wall stud without hanging the mirror with a wire.

I was thinking about using 50lbs OOK or Hillman hangers on each side of the mirror.

Will the OOK hangers work?

Any other suggestions?

Without seeing the mirror or the wall, your way might be best, but I'd consider using a french cleat. For heavier mirrors I prefer that route over single- or dual-point load types of hangars.

30lbs is not so heavy at all. A couple drywall anchors should do the trick. They are rated for about 45 pounds each. Sometimes we use a toggle bolt with a nut and washers to make an art studio style cleat that prevents the painting from being bumped off the wall.

To make this work you use a toggle bolt - two fender washers and a nut. One washer on, then the nut then another washer then the toggle back. This goes in the hole in the wall and gets tightened down. The but keeps the washers apart. I would place this rig about 6"-8" apart.

Works like a charm.

I think your measurements sound off. If the vanity is 33" and the wainscot rail is 41" that puts the lighting at 53" which is only 4-1/2 feet off the floor. If the vanity is 36" it raises it all 3" but that still puts the lighting at under 5 feet off the floor. This can't be correct, or if it is the lighting is in the wrong place.

I also did this several years ago at my old house in GA. I used the corner blocks & straight pieces of molding & no mitering..it was a piece of cake. Didn't have the plastic clips to deal with, since it was glued to the wall, but I just glued on the lightweight (not wood) molding to the frame with Liquid Nails (tape in place with painters tape to hold until dry). Worked like a charm. I did a crackle finish on mine, but you could do anything you want. I don't think they carry these corner pieces at Lowes anymore, but there are others to choose from. I'm planning to do 2 more of my mirrors here in something similar, maybe even aged black. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

All very good and thoughtful suggestions. I thank each of you. Mustangs--I think you hit upon it. I'll look into that as my best solution. Just don't want to permanently deface the 15' long mirrored wall, which I never would've installed, but which is too awesome to remove. The mirrors have beveled strips top and bottom, so only the ceiling is available and it's 1/2" additional thickness on the the mirror. You'd really see hooks and cables reflected behind the pictures. Target and Home Depot always have a large selection of Command Hooks. I began using them three years ago when I started hanging vintage wooden stocking stretcher instead of regular stockings (mantel photo below). I bought clear, but the ribbon is tied in a loose knot and goes over the hook. Wouldn't show otherwise anyway. I also use on a wreath over mirror.

I have a 30-lb. framed mirror from Crate & Barrel over my vanity. We used the hardware that came with it. I'm pretty sure they didn't hit any studs.

ETA: Of course there are anchors for the screws.

If you use two hangers - that's only 15 lbs a hanger. You can use regular picture hangers.

French cleat. Easy to install and then it hangs properly and you don't have to worry. Any picture framing store should have.
