How can I hang a mirror over moulding?

We went to check on the progress of our Hurricane Sandy wrecked house. Formerly, the bathrooms had large unframed mirrors from the light bar down to the vanity counter. Well, now the wall beadboard with moulding extends about 8" above the vanity counter and the light bar is about 12" above that. The full wall mirror is out and framed mirrors are in. How can I hang a framed mirror over the sink when the moulding sticks out about 1" from the wall?

I think your measurements sound off. If the vanity is 33" and the wainscot rail is 41" that puts the lighting at 53" which is only 4-1/2 feet off the floor.

If the vanity is 36" it raises it all 3" but that still puts the lighting at under 5 feet off the floor. This can't be correct, or if it is the lighting is in the wrong place.

DH added two wood filler pieces 1" square, painted wall color, to hang DD2s MBath mirrors over wainscot. You can see an end in last picture. If this bothers you, the filler piece can be made shorter.

Have somebody hold a flashlight at different levels pointing down at you while you lean into the mirror and imagine that you're trying to get an eyelash out of your eye. If you are working in your own shadow, the lights are too high. This is why sconces, one on either side of the mirror, are better for best lighting/visibility.

Agree you need a piece over the couch, but consider something with a little height at the end of the couch to warm up the room. A Fiddle Fig tree or..... nothing wrong with a large faux tree as long as it's well done and the house isn't full of faux foliage. Appears you have a large pot there. A tree most likely would be short if your purchase faux. I killed a couple fiddle figs and finally because I love them got a 5 foot and put it in a large pot which I filled with packing paper so I could make it appear a lot taller, then more packing paper then Spanish moss on top. It is faux yet, but I love the look of the tree so? I like the muted map and architecture in the print.... it's crooked yes :) Tree is inspiration as it's a lemon tree not a fiddle fig, but really warms up the space. I just posted this on another thread a bit ago :( whoops! Not sure if you use the fan often, however my bed is you probably do.

Thank you all for your input! I drew it on paper and the lights look too close together using the 1/3 rule (28" from edge), and they look too far apart centering them on the sides of the sink (13.5" from edge). So, I've decided to split the difference and center them 21" from the ends. This gives 24" between the pendants in the center of the island, and 12" from the edge of the island to the pendant. Even with hubby being 6'5", I don't think he'll hit his head. I drew it out (side view and top view below). Please let me know if there are any fatal flaws in this plan! p.s., our ceilings are 9', so I can easily have the bottom of the pendants 36" from the top of the island - thanks for the tip Jan!

Thank you! It’s not imperative all four be in the same space. I just like the idea of filling the wall space above the dresser. Do you think I’d be better off with three in a row? Vs four stacked?
