Grey Paint Color ideas - leaning towards BM edgecomb grey
Comments (19)Gray has an undertone of green, purple or blue... best to match those with the surrounding colors. Maria Killam (of Colour me Happy blog) has a few rules for selecting gray shades. She is working out of Canada, but translation for the paint names should be available. Her posts on gray undertones including color samples are also very informative. -VW Working with Grays: 5 Rules of Thumb By Maria Killam 1. Decide whether you want your gray to have a green, purple or blue undertone, it will make it much easier to choose. 2. Consider your fixed elements when choosing a gray undertone. 3. Work with the light in the room. 4. If the house is empty at the start of a project, do not fill the walls with 10 samples of gray paint colours. 5. Choose your fabrics first. If you look closely at this kitchen (above) the stone countertop and flooring and subway tile have a green undertone while the interior panels of the doors have been painted a blue-gray. It's subtle and doesn't look necessarily wrong (to the untrained eye) but can you see it now that I'm describing the difference? Most people can. Comments (16)Thanks, rorah, and others. I tend to gravitate towards cool vs. warm colors here. Can you try a mock-up of the Stonington Gray since I have two gallons of it? Also, maybe the Powell Buff. Not sure about Kangaroo. ?? I would likely need to stop at BM and see what kind of samples they have of these colors. DH does like the Nantucket Fog, and he said he was skeptical about the gray for a BR. So, in all likelihood, we are going to end up keeping it, so, yes, that means painting the bathroom. At least I don't have to hire painters to do it. I have had some issues with balance and vertigo over the past couple years, so I did not feel comfortable taking on a job where I'd need extended time on a ladder or step stool, but I'd be able to do that small space. I could send DH up on the ladder, but I'm the painter. He is a wonderful man, but he is not handy at all. I've done this entire interior on our house except for this BR. If I did it while he was home on a weekend, that would be OK for safety. I'll probably need to sell the leftover Stonington Gray on Nextdoor. I also have 3 gallons of primer. They are about 2 years old but have never been opened, so I'm sure I can't return them. Comments (10)BenM's Collingwood OC-28 is a good equivalent for Agreeable Gray. You don't have to understand what all the number mean in order for the notations and data values to paint a picture of how similar these two colors are. They're very similar across the board....See MoreSW Equivalents for BM Paints - BM Oyster Shell and Balboa Mist
Comments (26)I’ve been hoping for SW Silverpointe and SW Passive to have a color baby and I think BM Oystershell just might be that offspring! Maybe. :) Oystershell lands deeper into the Green-Yellow (GY) Hue Family. It's closer to Greeen (G) and it's lighter and brighter - look at Value and LRV to compare lightness and brightness. Passive has the least amount of Chroma out of the 3. Which could explain the blueness. Chroma quantifies colorfulness/grayness, clean/dirty, vivid/dull...See Morebaa85
