Painted oak cabinets - does this look like Edgecomb Gray?
Comments (18)Thanks, loribee and CLBlakey! It turns out we'll need to modify some cabinets and also the apron on my granite counters (who knows what that's hiding) in order to switch out the appliances. The PO remodeled and actually blocked in the appliances when installing the floor and counters after. Crazy. I'm considering whether I want to spend the extra money to make these changes and just refurbish my existing cabinets or save up for a complete remodel next summer. If we remodel we can get an updated look and also address some issues with the current layout. Obviously, a big cost difference but I'm not sure about spending money now to modify what I have if I'm still going to want a full remodel within a few years. If I do paint my existing cabinets, though, I'm definitely leaning towards the Edgecomb Gray! Donna - I don't think I'll stain the cabinets because my kitchen is already so dark and I truly lust over lighter kitchens but thanks so much for the link!...See MoreIs there a lighter version of BM Edgecomb Grey?
Comments (1)Is there a lighter version you can recommend or should I lighten EG by 25% or 50%? Strand of Pearls CSP-395 is very similar to EG, just lighter. Most people don't understand that when you cut a paint color formula, you're creating a completely new color. Revere Pewter is a good example. When you cut the formula by 50% you get a gray - doesn't look anything like Revere Pewter and IMO they look "off" and odd together because they are so different. You might get lucky and some or all color characteristics will carry over to the new color but there are no guarantees - won't know until you have it mixed and at which point you've bought yourself a can of paint. Tinkering with formulas can get expensive very quickly. Whenever someone recommends cutting formulas on this forum, you should ask if they have done it and to see pictures of what it looks like. Who knows, maybe someone has cut EG and it worked. But I'd want to see it before I tried it....See MoreChoosing between BM Thundercloud Gray/Bunny Gray/Eternity
Comments (37)I have, and i do really like that color, but it's definitely going to be too dark for the space. I've decided to go with BM White Wisp. It's what I have in my current home, and even though it can lean grey-green or grey-blue, the color is so light that it's not overpowering. I think it will work in every room, which makes having it painted easier. I'm using Chantilly Lace for all the trim. As for the kitchen, I'm strongly leaning towards either Repose or Mindful Gray for the cabinets. I think either will coordinate well with the granite we selected, and I think it will break up the white in the space since we aren't changing the floors. Lori I'm so grateful you jumped in when you did, otherwise I think I would have ended up with a Bunny Gray disaster on my hands! It's a beautiful color, but I'm sure now that it would have looked straight up blue or lavender at all times, not gray....See MoreYes, I know. But, I am still leaning toward gray tiles.....
Comments (23)I would use a tile that brings the white cabinets, warm flooring and Silestone counter together. Maybe 3" x 6" subway with texture (not flat). Here is a subway tile from Home Depot with a textured look I'm talking about. While it looks nice with your flooring photo, I am not so sure about the cabinet and counter. It also comes in white. Or go bold and bring blue that will be carried throughout the house. This is what caught my eye when I searched Silestone Calacatta Gold...See Morevirgilcarter
