Ben Moore Pale Gray Update--Help!
Comments (24)I don’t quite know why Houzz sent me a link to this older thread but my update is this: Joan from For The Love of a House Blog knows what she’s doing. Her Ashwood was lovely in my master bedroom. Then, when we bought a new build house in 2013 I decided to try Titanium, also Ben Moore, also from her house. It read soft but tiny hint of green in my well-lit western exposure master bedroom. We paid an up charge to the builder to have a nice light taupe painted throughout the new house so my husband thought I was certifiable to be on a ladder repainting the Titanium over the new walls on the first day we had keys. Of course he was busy taking up all the carpet so he could lay wood floor the same day. The Titanium was wonderful. This past year we moved to the Deep South and I used her Gray Owl throughput the entire house we are in now. It’s my favorite and does read just a bit blue in some lights. (There May Be BM Stonington Gray in the kitchen and both baths. Just sayin’) And totally agree with 6009kitty on sample pots. Never paint without a sample on your wall. And I don’t mean a 12” square either. Light makes a lot of difference. Greenery out the window can change things too. Test it. Comments (21)I would just plan for trying a number of grays and painting a large swath on the wall to really get a sense of what they look like in your room with your lighting. Lighting (at least in Seattle) also varies a lot throughout the year and varies a lot thorugh out the day. Be sure to let the samples dry completely too and judge them during the day and evening. What I have come to realize is that the color you (or I ) have in my head is not necessarily what the swatch looks like in real paint and trying several was the only way I could really find one that would work. I'd also recommend only buying enough for the first coat of paint. We put 2 coats of high quality (BM Aura) on the walls and have switched to a different color after one coat. It's a pain to go back to the paint store but can save $ if you aren't happy with the first choice. Live and learn....:)...See MoreGrey-blue paint
Comments (39)you do need to get a couple of samples... not 10 samples- that's when it gets expensive and overwhelming! paint chips should help you narrow down the shades-- look at them at different times of day in your room. then based on your favorite chips in that room pick up maybe even just one sample- try it and figure out what you need based on that color-- lighter, darker, bluer, grayer, etc. I have found that to avoid a pastel, baby-blue look for very light blue-gray colors, you really need to go with a color chip that looks more gray. the silver mist color that I used on my bedroom walls looked like a lightish gray blue with a hint of green on the chip--- the blue is much more prominent when up on the walls- the green and even the gray less so... but the shade was just right for that room. if you got a color expert, you still would probably want to get a sample or two (or three/four)- they can't see color through your eyes... and, they can't make you like a color! I have a friend who used some sort of expert to choose her paint colors on the main living area- it looks very nice, but my friend was still not happy because the colors weren't really what she had envisioned........See Morebunny gray bathroom - towel colors?
Comments (32)Ida thank you for pointing this out. One of the many reasons people here will rarely see anything about my own little home/palace. I have lots of artwork on my walls. Some are original, some are those mass produced ones that everybody here seems to hate. And, damn, I even have a few in my two little bathrooms. I am a grey haired tattoo (subtlety) covered chick too ;-) OP, I LOVE your artwork. Since white is not your thing I would go with that dark navy and the green in your painting. Make those towels stunning and screw the neutrals....See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
