How do I remove laundry detergent smell from sheets?
Comments (6)After a number of failed attempts at removing the obnoxious detergent smell from clothes I came across your discussion board post that said that in the lab they found that the detergent contained wax and oil. Your post suggests using kool aid clear as a cheep source of citric acid that should work to remove the smell, leaving the smell of kool aid that would supposedly fade over time. Hmmm dubious solution to trade one scent for another. (perhaps this poster works as a promoter for kool aid). However, this got my brain ticking and I thought well, if there is oil perhaps dishwashing detergent would remove it. I washed the clothes by hand (obviously adding dishwashing detergent to a washing machine would be a terrible idea) in water as hot as I thought would be okay for the fabric and used a generous dose of dish soap. It worked! Smell is basically gone. Before I couldn't be in the same room as the clothes (even after trying baking soda, vinegar, multiple washings, hanging in the sun and leaving in the basement for a year). I also found out that we have container of food-grade citric acid on hand. I'm sure that using some of that would produce even better results. Citric acid is available inexpensively on Amazon. Happy descenting!...See MoreHow do I remove pencil from the wall?
Comments (5)Wow, thanks for the idea for cooktop cleaner. I used Weiman Glass Cook Top cleaner and it worked like a charm! Took off my granddaughter's pencil coloring on our front hall wall. Followed with a light wipe with Mr. Clean Magic eraser and then clear water. All gone, thank goodness!...See Moresewer gas smell coming from drain in basement
Comments (5)Your trap is dry. The forced air causes the water to dry rapidly because of the pressure imbalance. This is a common problem in commercial building lavatories where the exhaust fan runs constantly. A solution is to add a fresh air intake vent in a basement window to balance the pressure. Another solution is to completely seal off the basement from the climate controlled zone of the house, but it sounds like your basement is part of the conditioned space of the home (most likely through the old floor boards). A third solution is to put water down the floor drain every day. The hole you see in the side of the floor drain is probably a tee that runs to your foundation drain system....See Moresewer smell in our study
Comments (11)About there being no sewer vent pipe in that wall. When our smoke test revealed where the opeing was, it was about 20 feet from where we smelled the odor the most. it was behind a wall and was enclosed is that wall. It drifted pretty far from it's sourse because it had a straight opening behind a wall. It would sometimes go elsewhere if the air was moving, like when the fan in the powder room pulled the air up....See Morerpsinfoman
