Oral Appliance For Mild Sleep Apnea?

I had a sleep study several months ago, it showed that I have mild sleep apnea. My oxygen levels never dropped low enough to entitle me to a CPAP. What I also have is severe case of Hypopnea, which, as it was explained to me, rouses me from a deep sleep up to 40 times per hr. It doesn't wake me up completely, just enough to disrupt the deep sleep needed to feel rested. A CPAP would help but Medicare just won't pay for it and it would be extremely expensive to buy my own and have it adjusted and calibrated regularly, and also replace the mask and tubing when needed. The sleep specialist gave me a referral to a dentist to make an oral appliance which might or might not help the condition. I researched online and learned that in order for Medicare to pay, the Dentist must be enrolled with Medicare as a provider and also be approved as a provider of Durable Medical Equipment (DME). The Dentist the sleep specialist recommended is neither enrolled or approved as a DME provider. He kindly offered to set me up with a payment plan. I can't even get an answer as to how much it would cost. I was told that cost would be discussed during consultation which would probably not be free if I'm reading the cluse correctly.

I was wondering if anyone at the KT has had to have an oral appliance made and if it was covered by Medicare or how he/she found a Medicare approved Dentist. I've had no luck in my area. I couldn't even reach the County Dental society.
