Choosing the right off white for trim and cabinets??
This is my first time posting- I love the site! My husband and I bought our home November of 2014. Starting in January, we have been working on a remodel of the living area of the house: LR, DR, and Kitchen. We have pulled out and replaced an awful fireplace, removed wallpaper, etc.
We are now to the kitchen phase. We ordered our doors and cabinet faces from rawdoors (great quality) and we are building the boxes. I want to do an off white/cream for the cabinet color. The kitchen is slightly small, but it opens to the dining room and the living room/foyer. We have chosen Softer Tan by Sherwin Williams as our wall color. Now, I am trying to pick the right trim and cabinet color that will look best with Softer Tan. It seems like most people use Dover White. I am leaning toward this color for my trim, however, I want the cabinets to have a slight warm/creamy color and I am worried the Dover White is too white for them. I have also read a lot of things about SW- Creamy and SW- Antique White. I do not have to match the cabinets to the trim (will this look ok with everything being open?) Is there a big difference between Creamy and Dover White? Would Antique White on my cabinets look ok with Dover for the trim? Is there other colors I should be considering? I really want to get this right....my fear is picking a color and it looking dingy/dirty. Thank you for any help!!
Here is a picture of the kitchen currently, with the old cabinets that will be replaced. No painting has been done yet.

I have SW Dover white cabinets (or the equivalent of) in my master bath. The master bedroom is SW antique white. I love SW antique white! However, this color is not for everyone as it's a very warm antique white. In some light it looks almost like a light creamy pastel yellow. For the master bath walls I mixed some of my SW Dover with the Antique White and had SW do a custom color. Love! Sorry I'm on my cell phone. Let me try again.
Above is Dover cabinets and a mix of Dover and Antique White for the walls. And below is regular Antique White on bedroom walls with Dover trim and door.

Comments (12)rdas, Have you thougt about lighting? In my kitchen the lighting effects the color of my paint. My cabinets are a shade or so warmer than the bright trim throughout the rest of my house. But, the lighting that comee in from the windows changes the color of the cabinets throughout the day. Slightly of course. And at night the glow from the undercab lighting and the accent lighting also has an effect. My paints appear so close they look like they match. Only I know because I ordered different paint colors. Can I see a difference up close? Not really and this may be because they are by the same paint manufacturer and truly just a shade appart. You will be in a different situation because my cabs are painted and yours are custom ordered. I can only imagine the stress you are under trying to match. I also have the factor of the The Tan Coat wall paint color draws the eye away from whites fighting with each other. Sorry there are pieces of trim missing in this pic. Still trying to finish the kitchen. I hope this can give you an idea that whatever you do choose will probably be closer than you realize. Comments (2)Glaze is currently not in fashion. But our motto on GW is always to get "what you love". That said, sometimes people are disappointed in how the glaze turns out. So be careful if you go this route to choose a company with a high success rate. Also, you need to see how the white plays off in your own kitchen. I have BM White Dove, some here have said it is creamy. In my kitchen it reads bright white. What color white you get depends on what direction you want to go with your kitchen. For example, with bright white, you would not want to go with a brown counter. There is a current thread where people are posting their kitchens. You can also go to the Finished Kitchen blog here although some there are not curent. Take the Sweeby test. This can help you decide if you like cool or warm. My own advise to to try to have a basic vision of your three elements:the color of the cabinets, the color and type of counter and the backsplash. Comments (6)How bright is the white of the trim? Does the trim extend into the kitchen? Is it open plan? Or a separate room? If the last, don't worry about it. It doesn't matter unless it bugs you. I wanted to do all my moldings in the same white but couldn't find a good one, so I used the pure white-white (I think it was BM Superwhite) and added one part of the "Maya Brown" of my rear entry wall to twelve parts pure white. This worked so well that I did all of the white walls in 8:1 of the same, and the downstairs ceiling in 5:1. Comments (26)@kel_kat5 How wide is the counter space in each of those three options with the various pantry sizes? How big is your family? I'm considering a 15" pantry which seems quite small in comparison to most I've seen, but I live alone and currently have no pantry at all, so I think any tall cabinet would seem luxe!...See Morechilders0915

Picking paint colors is hard!! Hope this helps. I used SW Creamy on my trim and I believe my cabinets were custom mixed to match. I am very happy with it. In my opinion, it is a creamy white but not yellow at all. It works with all the colors in my house, warm and cool. We used a pale lime green (can't remember the name), SW Tidewater, SW Verbena, SW Relaxed Khaki, SW Foggy Day, and SW Backdrop
