My cabinets are a cream white and the crown, window and door moldings are all pure white. The molding on the cabinet is the same color as the cabinets. As long as the moldings are consistent throughout the space, then it's fine. Here are some photo's.

I have cream cabinets and white trim and have no plans to change it. I know that there are people that don't like that combination, but it doesn't bother me a bit.

I have a friend whose cabinets run to the ceiling. The crown on the cabinets is the same as the crown in her room. The cabinets are creamy with a glaze and the rest of the trim in the room is bright white. I don't think it bothers her. It might bother me a bit, but it is not my kitchen! I think brutuses' is a bit different b/c the molding doesn't touch the cabinets. That looks better to me.

I painted my cabinets bright white and made that my trim color throughout my house. I am a pure white person, though--no cream.

All in all, I think it is fine to mix it up. If you were doing stained cabinets, they probably wouldn't be the same as all your trim. In the end, you need to decide if it will bother you. If it doesn't, then go for it. I don't think you would be "wrong" to do two different colors.

I have the same situation and it doesn't bother me.

Especially after I searched out dozens of photos of much bigger, more expensive off-white kitchens with obviously bright white crown trim above them! ;)

It's a pretty common scenario.

Have you thougt about lighting?

In my kitchen the lighting effects the color of my paint.
My cabinets are a shade or so warmer than the
bright trim throughout the rest of my house.
But, the lighting that comee in from the windows
changes the color of the cabinets throughout the day.
Slightly of course.
And at night the glow from the undercab lighting
and the accent lighting also has an effect.

My paints appear so close they look like they match.
Only I know because I ordered different paint colors.
Can I see a difference up close?
Not really and this may be because they are by
the same paint manufacturer and truly just a shade
appart.

You will be in a different situation because my cabs
are painted and yours are custom ordered. I can
only imagine the stress you are under trying to
match.

I also have the factor of the The Tan Coat wall paint
color draws the eye away from whites fighting with each
other.

Sorry there are pieces of trim missing in this pic.
Still trying to finish the kitchen. I hope this can
give you an idea that whatever you do choose
will probably be closer than you realize.
You have excellent taste and I know your kitchen will

In my kitchen, I didn't like it.

But our kitchens are very far off white, and we have a coffered ceiling which butted directly against the crown molding of the cabinets, and I felt it made the cabinets look dirty. So we had paint mixed to match the cabinet color, and painted our molding to exactly match the cabinets.

In concept, I think it is fine, and in all the pictures people have posted, I think it looks good. It just didn't look good in our kitchen.

It can definitely work. If done well, I think it actually adds to the kitchen to mix whites.

Here's what we did, matching the trim and cabinets. I agree with ebse though that it can look really great to mix the whites. That's how we originally painted ours, and it just didn't match. But we did paint the flat part of our ceiling white.

I have salt white kitchen cabinets above them I have salt white crown molding to match. my trim around doors and windows is Swiss coffee- if I run the crown around the room salt it makes the Swiss coffee look dingy. Should I keep the crown above cabinets a separate color than the room crown even though it is in the same room and they touch corners. Thanks
