What should i put in my new pond?
Comments (4)Any fish will eat mosquito larvae, but if your water has movement from the pump, the mosquitos will not lay their eggs. Zebras and guppies are tropical fish requiring water temperatures above 70 degrees. They would be okay if you're willing to bring them inside to a heated tank when the temperatures drop below 70. However, the guppies will probably be too slow and will likely wind up as turtle food. Zebras are fast, though. My feeling is that you might do better with a couple of comet goldfish or mosquito fish. Both are prolific breeders. Just be careful that you don't get overstocked. As for plants, pretty much any aquatic plant that strikes your fancy. Personally, I like blue pickeral and black magic taro, but there are lots of other plants that will do well. Just choose ones that will do well in you pond's location, i.e. shade or sun....See MoreShould I put my Black Swallowtail Chrysalis outdoors?
Comments (2)If it were me, I would move it to the outside or to the garage, but I would put it into some sort of container to protect it from being eaten. You'd need to keep a watch on it until the real cold sets in, just in case it decides to go ahead and eclose....See MoreWhat should I put on my front porch?
Comments (10)Congratulations on your beautiful new home! It might look very nice, but understated, to have a large wooden box planter at the far right end from the entry door, with the wood a decent match to either your front door, or your columns. You could consider a small tree-like shrub to grow in the box there over the next several years, something like the "Little Ollie" which is a dwarf type of non-fruiting (i.e. no mess!) olive bush. It gets about 6 feet tall at maturity so it wouldn't outgrow the space, and the silvery undersides of the green leaves would be so nice with the gray in your stone and siding. The second thing you could consider is a complementary piece of outdoor sculpture to put under the window. Just keep your eyes out for the next year or two until you see something that is meaningful, either for your personal heritage, or a special regional theme of the area of your new home. The image of a nice piece of low-format art in front of the window, and a large but quiet container tree at the end of the porch seems simple but inviting to me....See MoreShould I chuck these huge planters, if not what do I do with them.
Comments (29)I think everybody gave you sufficient reason to keep them and I think you should keep them, too. But in the future if you don't want them (or you have home decoration, appliance, or building material that you don't need and is still a good condition) you can donate them to your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore....See Morebostedo: 8a tx-bp-dfw
