Not too big at all imo. Many times we see people using pots which are too small. Not sure about that placement though. But if you don’t want any maintenance containers are out. They need watering.

I don't think they are too big either. I agree about the maintenance - they need water. But if you want to have some beautiful flowers, it is easier than having to get on your hands and knees in the flower beds - it would be much easier maintenance than that.

I also agree that the placement isn't quite right - I would put them so they are a few feet apart form eachother or flank them on either side of the garage door.

Yes, your home and yard are of sufficient size to take on such large planters, but i agree, one on each side of garage would be worth a try as it does not look like you could place them one on each side of doorway area.

I would spray paint them, but, i LOVE color, not everyone does. Even a beige tone to pick up your house trim, or go for bold and paint them a barn red or a blue. Or even stencil them with some design.

but If you are not interested in adding color by painting the pots, then maybe consider filling them with bright color flowers. What would really be cute in those pots is a "standard" plant, where one has a plant that is really a flower bush 'grafted' onto a small tree stem. Sort of a lollipop shaped tree that flowers is the end look.

Or, maybe a sculptural looking evergreen that spirals or pom pom shaped.

But yes, planters require much watering, unless you get some very drought tolerant plants in them. Or artificial.

I put perennials in my large clay pots and don't water them unless the there is a long dry spell in summer. They come back year after year.

I agree with each side of garage door. Needs softening.

They look too big because there is nothing else in the yard. Once there are other bushes, trees, annuals the planters will make sense

Agree with my727. I would paint them! They can be easily be spray painted or painted with water-based paint, or faux-finished to look like aged terracotta or concrete....so many possibilities.

Either side of the garage doors with thriller-filler-spiller arrangements planted in them!

Pots that large do not take as much watering/babying as small pots do. I bet once a week a good soaking would be sufficient. Big is better where planters are concerned when wanting low maintenance!! I would LOVE them!! If you head to a green house I bet they would give you just the perfect assortment of plants to make them really stand outs.

I think the size and color work well with your house. For extremely low maintenance, dig up some of the huge hosta that are already in your yard and plant those in the planters. Simple and little to no watering issues. If your hosta are really big, you can use one per planter. Can leave them in over the winter (the planters look frost-proof) so don't need to replant every year.

The only no maintenance pots are succulents.

I think the size is great and color is close enough to your roof to make sense in the big picture. Painting seems like adding maintenance you don't need or want. I'd try a large single plant - selection depending on your location. In Houston, I've had good luck with pots of asparagus fern which grows back if it does freeze, and also lantana, which comes in many colors. I've learned to plant low in my big pots so if we have a hard freeze and the main plant has to be cut way back, I have room to tuck a couple of smaller pots of something around the top for color until the plant revives.

Since the pots are big and identical they need to put somewhere that they look balanced...without a pic from the street showing the whole house it is hard to be sure where that should be,,,and until you know the location ...what to put in it is also unclear...it could be anything from a decorative tree to annual flowers...but generally speaking it seems like an evergreen would work best so they look nice all year round

They're great! So many things that would work beautifully in them. As Beverly mentioned, Christmas with trees and lights would be so pretty.

Also perfect for Fall with pumpkins, mums, greens. These are urns but you get the idea. Works with lots of planters.

They look great! I would stick some sedum and herbs in there for low maintenance, bug repellent, and a lovely scent. (And cooking if that’s up your alley) puck annuals if you want to decorate over the fall/winter or mix in some evergreen like rosemary if you dont

All good suggestions- I would put a dwarf Alberta Spruce towards the back and have room in front to alternate annuals/seasonal color/decor. Alternate sides of the garage is perfect.

Those big pots are great❣️Place them on both sides of your entrance. Plant with any colorful flowers and some cascading greenery. Instant charm❣️

The size is fine. As mentioned, they will look very different (appropriate) when your landscaping is completed. I suggest including some plants which "trail" over the sides of the planters so as to soften the look.

Ivy geraniums are great for containers since they grow up, out and over. They're different from the zonal variety of geraniums. The ivy variety is more trailing and has a "looser" form. They also bloom year round here in Southern CA. Perfect for container planting.

I’d do what Carole said: divide a couple of your hostas and put one (or two) in each pot. Easy and cheap. Water very deeply at least once a week.

Put glass on top, fill with sand and use them as a side table in the backyard.

If you are in a Northern Zone, I was also going to suggest dwarf Alberta spruce for an extremely low maintenance plant, one per pot. Then you can string tiny lights on them during the holiday season. (I do this.)

I think everybody gave you sufficient reason to keep them and I think you should keep them, too. But in the future if you don't want them (or you have home decoration, appliance, or building material that you don't need and is still a good condition) you can donate them to your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

No reason to keep them out front if they can't be book ended somewhere. What's in back? Do you have a patio you hang out in? Large planters can be easily turned into fountains.

Those are big enough for herbs. And cherry tomatoes.
