It's not being shown on either of the 2 PBS stations in my area. If Amazon prime instant video ever makes it free, I'll see it then. Looks interesting.

I've been watching. I thought season one was exceptional. Season 2 is good too but at times a little over the top.

Did you watch Gracepoint? It was the US remake and David Tennant played the same role. Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad) was Ellie Miller. Same plot, same characters, set in the US ---but a different ending. Before the series they announced that it would not have the same ending. I had low expectations but tuned in anyway and I was pleasantly surprised. It was much better than I expected.

I've already seen season 2 of Broadchurch. Here (Canadian west coast), it was on Bravo and probably finished a month ago. It was really good but I felt they rushed the story-wrap-ups a little bit.

I know what you mean about missing season premiers of shows. It used to be so much easier when there was only one season of tv - September to May and then summer reruns.

How did the American version story differ?

Spoiler alert! Don't read any more if you haven't seen season 1.

I borrowed the season 1 DVD from the library. It was a great show - how the suspicion shifted from character to character, the lovely scenery, the believable acting.

One indelible image was when the father went to identify the body and he was apologizing to his son for letting him down. The police woman/family friend was standing silently watching him while tears were running down her face and dripping off her jaw.

I do want to see season 2 but I don't know what channel it's on or if we get that channel so I'll have to wait until the library has a copy.

hhireno - It's on BBC America. Do you get that channel?

I don't want to give any spoilers but both Broadchurch and Gracepoint followed the same tactic that you just mentioned - suspicion sifting from character to character. A lot of red herrings and I fell for every one of them. The story lines and characters were nearly identical but a different person was responsible for the boy's death. I recommend it.

Mairecate, not sure if I will watch Gracepoint...or at least I'll wait a bit since the story lines are similar-too many other shows I want to see first. I agree that some of the second season is a bit over the top but I like the twists and turns of the plot.

Blfenton, I too prefer when the season used to run fall-spring, then summer reruns. I loved Madmen, but there is so much time between seasons that I can't remember what happened and then am lost when it starts up,again. I had a really difficult time understanding what was going on in its recent premier. I tried to go back and read previous episode summaries and still couldn't remember enough to follow the plot well.

I just absolutely do not have time to get involved in another show-no matter how good it is-I stay up too late as it is!

4kids, I was totally lost on Mad Men's last premier-I had to google it to get someone else's understanding of it. For instance, the waitress-I had no idea what that was even about until I googled it. Are we suppose to remember someone from Season 1??? I mean, Don Draper has had so many women-I can't keep track!

I'm quite a bit behind the ball on this stuff: I just started using our DVR. My sister wrote down the steps for me (it involves 3 remotes!). I haven't done it enough times to commit it to memory yet but, then again, why bother when I have her written instructions?

We *might* get a smart tv for the LR and, in theory, start using Netflix. We've never even rented a movie! My few DVDs were freebies from the library. It's just not that important to me. And now that the weather is getting nicer, I'll be outside and not watching any TV/movies.

Broadchurch fan here too. We usually watch it on demand each week. We watched about 3 episodes of Gracepoint but it was too similar so we stopped. Totally agree about the crazy way they program series nowadays....a year between seasons?!......of course no one is going to remember what's what. Long for the days when a show ran September-May with repeats only around a holiday and in the summer but I know those days are gone forever.

Joanie - you're right about the similarity between Broadchurch and Gracepoint. They were so much alike that I was beginning to suspect that the endings would actually be identical. But the acting was excellent and the story sucked me in - I kept trying to figure out who was responsible. Then when the final episode aired I was amazed at the ending. And it was both surprising and logical too. Really well done.

4kids - Well, for another $7,000 per month (JK), Charter will gladly provide me access to BBC America. Sigh. I hate cable TV. Even more irksome, is that I found out the county refused to cooperate with Verizon Fios to bring their option to my community. Can you say, "Hostage"? In the meantime, I'm catching up on Mr. Selfridge and The Missing.

Java, do you have nEtflix? The first season is free on Netflix. Amazon Prime has season 2 for $1.99 per episode. Not too bad for 8 episodes...less than 2 adult tickets to see a movie! But yes I do agree that it's ridiculous the way we are held hostage by the various broadcasters. My parents live 20 minutes away, have Verizon Fios just like I do, but they are in a different market and get a few different channels than I do. One that I really want (MHZ that offers lots of foreign movies/shows) but isn't available to me. Back when we had VCRs she would tape this one show I liked, Montalbano, and give me the tapes to watch it, but that's not possible any more now that we both only have DVR machines. :(

BBC America, Wednesday @ 10 EDT. Tried to watch Gracepoint, but Olivia Colman is the heart of Broadchurch for me, and there was no point in continuing with Gracepoint. I might go back after Broadchurch season 2 is done (I think next week is the season finale).
