Anyone Watching/Watched Get Back?

I actually subscribed to Disney+ just to watch this series. While never a Beatles fanatic as a boomer of course they were formative musical voices for me. So I was eager to watch what was billed as a rare inside view of their world packed with interesting moments.

However, I'm finding it rather a hard slog. Have just started the second 2-hour episode and man, does anything else ever happen except for them endlessly noodling around rehearsing, occasionally jamming by singing old songs interspersed with sitting around speculating on how they will create the tv show that never happened? Obviously I've got a long (long long long) 4 more hours to go but I'm finding my interest waning mightily right now. They just decamped to the Apple makeshift studio so please tell me things get a bit more lively there LOL.

I guess I am feeling at this point that Peter Jackson was a bit too enamored of having hundreds of hours of footage and decided to use a whole lot more than was really needed to make his point. There are a few riveting moments: scenes of the early days relationships of John and Paul with their soon-to-be-wives (and how annoying is Yoko sitting right there with the band while they work?!). Or George Harrison quietly getting more and more frustrated till he quietly says he is quitting and walks away-then comes quietly back.

Curious what others thought of it?

I watched it over the holiday weekend and loved it, but then again I'm a Beatles fanatic. The interplay between John and Paul as they worked out songs was a joy to watch, and the whole tone was so different from Michael Lindsay-Hogg's version in Let it Be. (Incidentally, he's supposedly Orson Welles' son, and the resemblance is certainly there.)

The Beatles are all quite stoned (those red eyes are a dead giveaway), but their musicianship is extraordinary nonetheless. And hooray for Billy Preston, who turned the whole dynamic around when he started showing up for the sessions. I had a grin on my face for all those hours.

I watched it over three nights and then rewatched E1. I loved it; it was revelatory. Over the years Paul had always been my least favorite Beatle. The doc turned all that completely on its head. He's a force of nature. Watching him create classic songs out of thin air was amazing.

I was struck by their generally sunny dispositions. Yes, there was conflict (George up and quits the band for a few days) but they were decent to one another.

I'd been a huge fan in the early days. I attended their last big concert at Candlestick Park (SF) in 1966. It was always John for me. When he was killed, I couldn't listen to Beatles music for a year. And even then, it wasn't the same, something was broken. I'm happy to say Get Back exorcised the bad spirits that lurked.

I will say I had a good long cry as the rooftop concert came to an end and the credits rolled a final time. It was more of the tenderness of the experience, for human creativity and goodness, for our common past.

I've e-mailed them in the past several times and never get a response. Someone on the Butterfly forum said they actually sent a registered letter to them. I agree with the show hosted by Rick Kaldrovics - same plants, same BORING plants, and nothing exciting and new. Gardening by the Yard was one of my favs, as was Gardener's Diary, and Gardener's Journal. Rebecca's Garden just didn't do it for me - she focuses a lot on ditzy craft projects and kid gardening (as if we didn't already know how to do that). The Disney gardening show wasn't too bad, but still kind of ditzy IMHO (it was on several years ago for awhile). PBS here in Oklahoma sponsors an Oklahoma Gardening show on Saturday followed by Victory Garden. I miss Roger and the old, experience guys. My neighbor calls the new fellows the Yuppie Gardeners. LOL! Most of their segments focus on cooler weather gardens and european gardens. Neither suited to my area in Oklahoma. Of all the shows, though, Gardening by the Yard had to be my favorite. Paul James is kind of a clown, but he sure knows his stuff, and he introduces new plants all the time, and really focuses on gardening in different areas of the country. Wow! This is exactly what my wife's ex-husband has been doing to our SD for many years. Every item on the list! The latest chapter was convincing our daughter to move in with him (at SD's age of 17) right in the middle of her Junior year of HS (move from VA to FL), to get all of the "adult priviliges", no rules, and all of the big ticket toys as promised while living in the "country club" home. Good grief! This man is single, never remarried, lonely, and getting his daughter to move in with him was his totally insane priority and he would go to any length to get this. This man has convinced our daughter to estrange herself from her mother and me. I would really like to find out what is the period of time required for these children of divorce to recover and sort it all out. Do they ever really recover? How long does it take and at what age do they come around and grow out of all the hurt and confusion. Is emotional health ever really achieved? If anyone has articles on this recovery process and statistics, we would love to learn about this. My wife (biomom) really only hit one possible area on the list; no communication with the ex. Her ex for many years was always threatening her, blaming her, running her down, bullying her, and so I eventually accepted the fact they they would not talk. It takes two mature and stable adults to communicate. Very unfortunate for our daughter. Thanks for posting this list. For us, it is 100% accurate. I just hope that my SD studies this list when she is a mature adult. Her crazy biofather won't look quite so cool then! It will be a very long wait though.

I watched the CBS shows and I've watched the Dateline and some of the Dr. Phil. I don't know what to think, other than believing an intruder is the least-likely scenario. Not impossible, but very unlikely, due to the way the note was written, the way the body was discovered, and Burke's interviews shortly after the crime and 18 months after the crime. Burke said he heard his mother come into his room and then go out of it looking for JonBenet, and then he heard her in hysterics (as he said in the interview afterward "going psycho") and just stayed in bed pretending to sleep or trying to sleep, rather than go try to find out what had happened. Picture your own kids. You burst into your 9 year old's room and then just as suddenly depart. You are frantically crying and screaming, alerting your spouse and then placing a 911 call. Your 9 year old doesn't freeze with fear. They don't hide. They also don't come ask you what's wrong. They don't go find dad and ask what's wrong. They just stay in bed and wait. The only reason I can think of for him to do this is either that he was used to the sound of adults "going psycho" in other parts of the house and did not find that unusual/alarming--or he knew what the problem was and was waiting to find out how his parents were going to handle it.

What it's like for me here..it's hard to write about it, I mean in this format of short(or even long, in my case) posts. I grew up with this radar though..I sense things..I've a pretty good compass of good and evil. It's hard to understand a country-any country-until you lived there. Books help of course. good books I mean. Yet still. Sometimes even physical presense is not enough-you need to really spend years somewhere. I'm afraid to count how many years I am here-and it's only now I feel that I'm closer to understanding all the complexity. So no wonder people here can't wrap their mind about things that happenned ocean plus away. I'll try to be brief..not about US for now, but about Chernobyl times.. They told only because they couldn't afford not to tell, at some point. They always seem to feel they have a lot, a lot of disposable resources. Like people, for example. I don't mean the country, there are good folks everywhere-I mean the state. the empire. There were many things they never told about. Including catastrophes and accidents. Some things that they deemed not comme-il-faut, that hurt their image and their proclamations, simply didn't exist. They existed-but they were swept under the carpet with such efficiency one hardly had time to blink. All the numbers of people they deliberately killed, repressed, deported, misplaced, etcetera-it all can be easily googled. And it's tens of millions. all of it sounds surreal. yet it was incredibly real. Here they were just, well..they weren't even in an active mode of evil. They just kept silent because they could, and until they could not. As for the writing..no..I didn't think about it, at least not in terms of describing big societal things like Chernobyl There are many very fine writers. And I just recently read some memoirs of different people who knew Leo Tolstoy-and it seems I share his opinion about writing. Which was approximately "don't write unless you feel you completely and utterly can't resist anymore" (he also thought, like me, it should be "useful'. The whatever you write. For the mankind. But we strongly disagree on poetry..me and Leo Tolstoy. lol) also I do write, in a way..it's too much of me here even in this thread)) Re Tired, I've been to Lvov-yes, it's a very beautiful city. I was with my schoolmates, we had a class trip there. I remember it very fondly.

Love this thread and hearing impressions of the movie. We haven’t watched yet, but will. I’m really looking forward to it.

I have such mixed feeling about Yoko. I can’t forgive that she nearly ruined the Stones ”Rock and Roll Circus” movie (I highly recommend that movie, too. I’m a Stones fanatic).

I was reading something recently about Paul and George — their long history together and how they loved each other but were like oil and vinegar.

We saw Paul in 2014, he is just amazing.

Bunny, I follow Julian on IG, I’m so impressed by his music, his photography, and just what a neat person he is. He reminds me of John so much, but his sweet mom Cynthia, too.

I recall seeing a shortened version of this back in my high school days which would have been in the 70s. I think it was for a music appreciation class. I remember some studio clips and their famous rooftop concert. So when I saw this advertised I though, "Well they probably had a lot of unused footage from that shorter video so now they are trying to capitalize on it. I'll bet a lot of it was boring stuff." So not going to spend the dough for that. I'm a Beatles fan, but I had a feeling it would be a tough slog. But yes, that rooftop concert . . . !!!!!! Proves that they weren't just a studio talent, that they could crank out pure rock and roll like nobody's business. All those early years playing clubs . . . I have seen Beatles cover bands twice, and that music rocks in live performance no matter who is playing it, it's just pure rock and roll genius.

RE Yoko, I just have no appreciation for her talent, but I'd hardly blame her for the Beatles break up. Most bands do break up as the artists mature into different individual interests. And yes, there was something creepy about her sitting there, but she has said in interviews that John wanted her to be there. I imagine she was kind of bored so that's probably a lot of the vibe.
