If you take care of your lawn, you don't need to worry about the neighbors. Water deeply and infrequently. This means no more than once a week by the time the summer's worst heat hits. Then mulch mow at your mower's highest setting. That should kill out the dandelions without doing anything else. The henbit and clover like stuff need to be pulled (or sprayed if you like to spray things). Those weeds are embarrassingly weak rooted, but they will choke out St Aug simply by growing over the top and shading it out. If your soil is all all moist, you need to search around and find the central root. Then loosen the runners and pull up the entire plant all at once. And they pull out easily. Barnyard grass may need to be pulled, nutsedge may go away with the water and mowing plan (it did for me), and crabgrass will definitely go away with the watering and mowing regimen.

geez! clover a weed!!?? I've been encouraging the clover at my place for the last 20 years! never could understand why anyone would want to kill it off, but if you're wanting the standard suburban green yard, you'll have a hard time gettin rid of 9000sqft of weeds w/o some chemical solution any chems you use for the broadleaf weeds will kill the clover, but you'd have a hard time getting rid of it otherwise - ripping off the above ground growth won't stop it - tilling it up will spread it around some and slow it down initially but not kill it - the only alternative I can think of is to till the whole yard, to loosen it up and crimp the existing growth, then lay sod of the type of grass you prefer Bill

Carpet Burrweed "Soliva sessilis) is considered a noxious weed with no benefits. It is a winter annual that dies back in the summer after forming seeds, and not watering your lawn leaves the soil open for the seeds to sprout when the rains come. Humans tend to be the major source of the spread of the seeds. The spines are attached to the seeds. Germination begins early and seedlings develop rapidly, usually faster than the grass it grows in. Since you don't water your lawn, and the weed likes compacted soil and sun, you might consider either sheet-mulching your entire lawn area (shading it out), or rototilling the whole thing, then when you see the first small plant, keep the top few inches of soil loosened. And keep doing it (preventing the compaction it likes). Germination starts with the first heavy rains of autumn, so you would need to keep on top of it when you need to, not when you can get around to it (too late). Scientists seem to think that there is a fairly low carry-over of seed from year to year, so if you could eliminate the seed production for one year (about Feb to July or so), the existing seeds may not live long enough to keep germinating year after year. If you want to keep your lawn, you should probably ferilize it with compost or manure, overseed it well, water it, and cut it higher so it can help shade out the burrweed. Or you could fertilize with natural fertilizers (compost and manure), then lay sod over it. The microbial action of the compost and manure could help the seeds to rot, with the help of the sod in keeping out the light. It can be removed manually in late winter and early spring, but if you wait until the seeds form, you're wasting your time. This weed is rather famous here in WA, as we get a lot of rain for 8-9 months, then nothing all summer, producing the conditions it prefers. 8-( Sue

Is it clover or Oxalis, Jennifer? I canÂt tell from the picture, but thereÂs a good description at the link below. Both of them spread underground, and if itÂs Oxalis, when they produce seeds, they "shoot" them all over the place the same as sweet violets. Oxalis is a pervasive weed we were constantly fighting when I was in the green industry. Thank god I donÂt have any around here at this house, and whenever I buy something, I make absolutely sure there isnÂt any growing in the pot before I plant the whatever-it-is. Once you get it itÂs a nightmare. Since you want to get rid of itÂwithout chemicals!Âwhichever it is, I recommend TOTALLY saturating the ground, wait for it to completely soak in for several hours or over nite, and then very slowly pull/dig them out. "Slowly" in an attempt to keep as many roots attached as possible. Either will come back from any roots left in the ground. If the soil is soppy enough, you should be able to get quite a lot of it out, and then if you keep after it whenever it starts to grow back, you should be able to EVENTUALLY get rid of it. In areas where itÂs not growing into something you want to keep, yeah, go ahead and dig out enough soil to get all the roots and then replace it. That might take care of some major areas. But whatever you do, be absolutely certain you donÂt let any of it go to seed if it is Oxalis! Speaking of space invaders, if itÂlike bindweedÂgoes to seed, itÂs there ad infinitum! Skybird P.S.
