Would BM White Dove trim go with walls painted in BM White Down?

We are painting a small entrance hallway as a test for a paint job in the whole house (incl basement). We just tried Cloud White walls with Chantilly Lace trim and found the walls too yellow and the trim too grey (a very unpleasing combination ... though we love Cloud White as a trim, it looks awfully dark and greenish on the walls for some reason!). We have to repaint and are now planning to try White Down on the walls as it looks gorgeous in another room (very bright but soothing, light and airy but not stark and a little off-white but not yellowish). Would White Dove trim go well with White Down walls? In terms of decor, we tend to like neutral colours (whites, beiges and some dark wood). We want to paint whatever combination we choose through the whole house. We know it is probably better to select the paint colours room by room according to light conditions etc, but our house currently has so many different colours on walls and trims (thanks to some fancy design decisions by the previous owners) that we never know what to paint when we need to do touch ups and we are storing over 15 tins of paint in the full range of colours found in our home - we now have to simplify. Thanks for any advice!

Cloud white takes on the color of what is around it. I do not prefer this color. A lot of times, when going white, I go with the same color for both walls and trim, just in different finishes. They look different even though they are different colors because of the different finishes. Hope this helps! (Dove white is a great color by the way.)

white down will likely look greenish in that room as well. its 3 shades down from cloud white.... and the strip ends at ice formations which is really green toned.

looking at my fandeck here... white down is reading very yellowish.

choose a color from a strip where the darkest color doesnt have undertones you dont like.

best advice. buy a BM fandeck and see *all* the colors in your own house.

In my experience, the paint looks significantly lighter on the cabinet than on a sample. The slight gloss to the paint makes it appear lighter, too. We used Lancaster White on our island, which, on a sample/paint chip, looks fairly yellowish and pretty dark compared to a lot of whites, but on the island certainly doesn't look dark and, to me, not very yellow. In other words, not only does it lighten, but washes out from the perception given by the little swatches. This is the best photo I have at the moment. I only show it so if, in your search of BM colors, you see a sample of the Lancaster White, you can see the difference in swatch to reality and may be able to relate it to other colors that interest you.

I said on another post that i think Cloud White is highy underrated. I find it to be milky, but not creamy. More of a warmer white, not too stark, but not yellowish. They probably wiuld bith work with the colors you selected. I have cloud white with SW Contented and BM Carrington Beige and it works well with both. To my eye, white dove looks more creamy (yellow) in samples than it does in pics of people's cabinets. BM also lists them as coordinating colors. Your best bet is peobably to get large paped samples or sample pots of both to look at in the space once the floors are installed and cabinets are installed. Maybe one will jump out as the right one, but they will probably both work.

No problem, and thank you! Our kitchen was previously a garage so it really came a long way! It was quite the renovation. Our cabinet doors are from Semihandmade. I’m not sure whether they would be standard or full overlay. The doors and drawers completely cover the cabinet frame though. Our countertops are a white quartz, and our backsplash is a marble subway tile. All goes very well with BM White Dove and Natural Cream!

Interesting suggestions, all! I have the Samplize of Simply White and many times i have seen people say they see "yellow" so I'm a bit leery of that. Mountain Peak White - yes, need to check that out. And White Opulence isn't one I would have looked at but now I'm thinking maybe? But I see bit of pink - and I have seen a wee bit of pink in Pale Oak at times - would White Opulence bring it out even more (which I don't want). What color white would have the opposite effect (keeping it the greige that I see in "normal" light)? That is one thing that is keeping me away from the White Dove, I read somewhere that the grayish tone was bringing out the pink in Pale oak. And thank you to Beth H for that pic on lighting. I have to check into what we have selected and whether I need to adjust that.

BM Simple White is the most neutral. BM White dove is used a lot, including by me. It's not as crisp a white, yet contrasts nicely with non whites. Atrium White is nice for both trim and walls if your natural lighting is good. Take a look under the Houzz photo section for foyers, atrium white and you'll see.

I had a hirshfields lady come out and help me pick paint, and she said white dove by Benjamin Moore is used a lot for trim. I am painting my baseboards and woodwork with it, in satin, and it looks nice .... Our walls are 3am latte by hirshfields, in eggshell.

Thanks for all the suggestions. This is actually very helpful. I went to BM and they recommended Simply White--it is a brighter white with a hint of creaminess (ie halfway between chantilly lace and cloud white). They said White Dove is actually darker than Cloud White and can look just as yellow.

I have tried painting some furniture in the Chantilly lace trim paint and that looks great.

Kim Nielsen- Love white dove! Q- when you paint the walls white dove (flat or Matte) and the trim in white dove semigloss – what color do you use on the ceiling?

not Kim, but you could paint the ceiling BM white dove too, which eliminates wall/ceiling lines/angles. You could also add just a touch of blue (I believe I read a baby blue tone) to BM white dove to use on the ceiling-this makes room slighting taller. There is BM "ceiling paint" too.

In November 2014, BM changed White Dove's formula: less black, more yellow. I have the formula numbers somewhere. The result is a brighter White Dove (less gray, and since I've tried it, not more yellow either).
