White Trim/cabinet color to go with BM Pale Oak that is NOT White Dove

I did a thread where I was tearing my hair out deciding on my new build interior paint and have my sample choices narrowed down. Whew. Now I have a sample of Pale Oak and I have a sample of White Dove, which apparently go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly. But I see that sometimes White Dove can look "extra creamy" and my kitchen area will not be getting much natural light. So I want a nice bright white, but am not sold on going the Chantilly Lace put-sunglasses-on-in-your-kitchen route either.

So, has anyone used a white other than White Dove with Pale Oak and lived to tell about it? Anyone?

I have pale oak with simply white trim. It’s beautiful.

I used Mountain Peak White for my trim with Natural Cream walls - a bit darker than Pale Oak but same general greige feel.

How about this? White Opulence is a "shade" or Pale Oak.

daisy if I only knew lol! First I have to figure out how to deal with all of the mismatched moulding & baseboard transitioning from the office to the basement, & how to cover up the blocked doorway on one side of the bottom, & whether to do a niche on each side at the bottom & if so, how to make it happen, & I'm trying to figure out what I want to use for a stair rail, & how to execute the corner at the top of the stairs, & what color to paint the walls, & what kind of floor covering to put at the landing. & along the way, in the back of my mind, will be thoughts of what to do with the stairs themselves. Which, in all likelihood, will simply be sanded, patched & painted. Much as I would love new wood, I don't see that happening at this time. OK now I'm tired! I did start a thread some time ago with questions about the stairs, got a few good ideas & got started, but I got side tracked when I replaced the windows in the office & decided I needed to start there.

Dee, I figured that, but these days with most painters using latex, clean-up isn't/shouldn't be an issue, IMHO anyway! I think they have been able to get away with it, so they keep doing it. I am old and cranky enough that I would look at the line item estimate, ask him how much more for several colors, and then tell him to just take all the painting charges off because I was going to bring in someone else to paint since I want more than one color in my house! :) If you brought in another painter and told the builder to take off the painting charges, I wonder what he would say. Although it is a slightly different situation, our painter whom we have had for years paints what ever colors I choose and he doesn't ever charge more if he is doing rooms in different colors-we've had him do it both ways with several rooms in one color and other times with every room he is painting being a different color. As I said, old and cranky and tired of having people take advantage. Of course, I would do it in the nicest possible way-how I had my heart set on certain colors and how we do understand that he is the best builder in the area which is why we chose him, but we just feel we need to hire an outside painter to make the house a home, we just can't imagine having EVERY room the same color, etc., etc. Faron, you want to weigh in here??? Of course, you may discover that you absolutely love one color throughout! In that case, no worries. Sometimes, I am tempted to try that and see how it looks-problem is that I can't decide what that one color would be-ha.

Diymike, Oh so glad you found the color, Petra66 is the best. Okay, I am going to give you my color advice and I totally understand if you flush it. But hear me out first and think about it. If you want the pendants to shine or be an artistic piece you should use a complimentary color as a back drop. Complimentary can be a confusing term: Compliment sounds like when someone says "you look great" but what it means in the world of color is the opposite. Use a color on the color wheel opposite of the blue. What color is that? orange Orange??? But wait, if you look closely at your other colors you are working with (the counter, the wood, the floors,) you will notice they have oranges, browns and warm hues to them. They are in the color family of orange. I say go with your favorite color. If you love blue. I think you will discover a blue hue to be the best for your kitchen. Go with your instinct. Blue ideas that might look amazing with your elements. And will make those beautiful lights rock!!! And if you dislike the advice I won't be at all offended. BM makes a "White". You might want to try this one.

Or,Simply White.

it's the perfect white without any discernible undertones.

this is Pale Oak and what appears to look like Simply White

Pale Oak (same house as above). she didn't know the trim color. However, it's a nice, bright white.

this pic is Pale Oak and White Dove. It also gets a lot of natural light

make sure your kitchen lights are in the 4000K temp range so as not to get any yellowing.

I love houissaon's suggestion for White Opulence. It's a softer transition from wall to trim than a stark white but still crisp enough to highlight trim.

Interesting suggestions, all! I have the Samplize of Simply White and many times i have seen people say they see "yellow" so I'm a bit leery of that.

Mountain Peak White - yes, need to check that out.

And White Opulence isn't one I would have looked at but now I'm thinking maybe? But I see bit of pink - and I have seen a wee bit of pink in Pale Oak at times - would White Opulence bring it out even more (which I don't want).

What color white would have the opposite effect (keeping it the greige that I see in "normal" light)? That is one thing that is keeping me away from the White Dove, I read somewhere that the grayish tone was bringing out the pink in Pale oak.

And thank you to Beth H for that pic on lighting. I have to check into what we have selected and whether I need to adjust that.

aliciaflorrick would you mind posting a few photos of your walls with the simply white trim? I'm also looking for a different trim color than Dove White, which seemed a little dark to me.

What did you end up going with? I'm looking at BM Simply White, SW Pure White or SW Snowbound. Not sure if any of those will work well, but the samples seem to look good together

Jak52, I ended up switching the body color to SW Agreeable Gray so I went with SW Pure White for trim and cabinets. I like it a lot. I did it throughout our new build and don't feel the need to change any room as of yet.

If I would have gone with Pale Oak it would have been too light here. BUT, had I gone with BM Pale Oak, I would have done BM Simply White.
