I grow a lot of ogrs, but I still love the moderns, especially the "new antiques", old moderns like Talisman, Pres. H. Hoover, Chanelle, Mrs. Pierre S. Dupont, Signora, Nimbus, Radiance, etc.
I have a sentimental affection for Tropicana--recall my mother getting that one when it came out--it thrived in the hot dry climate we lived in & threw huge blooms.
And what a shame not to have Chrysler Imperial--it has such an intense perfume with those gorgeous flowers. I don't care if it blackspots & I don't spray it.

Quite a few body bags turn out well if you get them fresh & baby them a bit. I have good looking plants of Sunsprite, Tropicana, Bluegirl, Chrysler & several others from body bags.

I didn't see any body bags at our home depot but Lowe's had some in. I got an Intrigue because I have been wanting to replace my old one which was a tree rose and gorgeous!

I left it in AZ with my mom when I moved to FL...totally miss that rose! I also got an Angel Face just because...lol. I planted them 2 weeks ago and they are already leafed out and the intrigue is growing a few branches. I still plan to get another Intrigue standard/tree rose next year. I wish ours had a Belinda's Dream because I hear that one does well here.

People are saying Lowe's and HD have 2 gal Belinda's dream this Spring, so I am waiting. :-) I got 2 Sally Holmes, 1 Tiffany, 2 Don Juan in body bags last year from Walmart, they were $4.95 each. Aldi should have some too, I will check there this Spring.

I got a Don Juan at Walmart but it was on a trellis in a 3 gallon pot. It was about $13, I think. I bumped him up to a 7.5 gallon for now till I figure out a permanent spot. He smells sooo good!!

Here in Oklahoma we have Atwoods Farm Supply stores and they had a very good selection of healthy looking body bag roses, some very good varieties. I was so tempted to get Deja Blu, but resisted.

We had our bagged bareroots available at HD & Lowes back in Dec & Jan. I got FRAGRANT CLOUD, CHICAGO PEACE, MOONLIGHT MAGIC, FIRST PRIZE, GRANADA and GARDEN PARTY. Seems like there was another one, but I can't remember what.

I think you'll find they aren't as bad as people say they are, buford. If you get them early and get them some water before they dry out too much they usually do OK. Just don't be overly disappointed if some of them turn out to be mystery roses. But then I've gotten some really pretty rose surprises that way too so...

I bought my body bag roses a few weeks ago from Aldi and I'm very pleased. The following have been a success: Tiffany, Kordes Perfecta, Oklahoma, Oregold, Olympiad, Gold Medal, Tropicana, Sundowner, Love, Toro, Golden Shower, Pink Peace, America Climber, Chrysler Imperial, Red Masterpiece, John F. Kennedy, and Intrigue. The duds (they haven't broken out yet but still have green canes are Double Delight and Josephs Coat. Not bad given that my success rate for body bags used to be much lower.

The only rose that has survived the thirteen years of change that my yard has undergone is a Don Juan. Your pic, Sultry, is so nice. The color on my DJ is a bit different, but the form is dead on. Where in Florida do you live? I don't think I'll see any body bag roses down here in Pembroke Pines.

My Don Juan is quite a bit deeper darker red than the photo shows. For some reason this newer camera does not get the reds and pinks correct..makes them brighter than they are. Maybe I don't know how to set it right lol.

I am up in the Jax area on the outskirts of town (mini farms) that used to be an unincorporated area but now is part of Jax (definitely time to move lol). Kinda near the Dinsmore/Callahan area. I think the nearest Aldi's to us is in St Augustine.

seil, I still have two body bag roses that I bought 12 years ago. It is hit or miss. But I did get these early and I read somewhere to submerge them in water while still in the bad to let the packing medium absorb water and you can keep them like that until you are ready to plant. If only the garden centers would do that, more would survive.

I saw some at Lowes, outside in freezing weather. I'm assuming they're keeping them outside, vs the unheated entryway, as they're on a stationary display. Do you think they're ok? The bud eyes are red and pushing out some growth. The canes were huge and I'm wondering how they get a big enough root system in a 3 inch cylinder tube. I haven't bought any before, but would like to try one or two.

I thought I had never done the submerged in the bag thing but now that I think of it I actually have. They come out around here way too early to plant and I've often brought some home and opened the top, poked holes in the bag and stuck them in a bucket of water in the basement to wait for planting weather. I didn't soak the canes but definitely the packaging medium.
