Bought $383 worth of roses on J&P last night
Comments (23)Last week I received 2 roses (DAs "Crocus Rose" and "White Pearl in a Red Dragon's Mouth") from Ashdown Roses. I got an email that they were on sale. They were in excellent shape, and the Dragon's mouth rose has 3 new buds on it. I also received (DAs "Christopher Marlowe") from Jung Seeds a week or so ago, also. It, too was in excellent condition. I would definitely order from either place again. Ashdown's sent me an email that they were delaying shipment until the weather cooled a little....and then the rose arrived as was promised. I am sorry you had a bad experience with J&P....however, you are not the first person I've heard that's unhappy with them. Hope you can get a response from them, or either your money back. Comments (24)I know this is old but if your still looking for the right thing to plant You might try hydrangas, tiny Japanese maple, a garden sculpture made of chicken wire with succulants, gardinas, cammillias and there is a beautiful Japanese holly that has sort of purpley leaves and berries (sorry not sure of the name) that might also work, there were some great ideas on this tread so hopefully something will work, I also have an entire back yard very shady some intense shade and some filtered, just b sure you have the soil amended and water and fertilize correctly, because I have figured out that that can go along ways in getting a plant that might not work in certain spots to cooperate with you and be happy...See MoreMost fragrant HT whites
Comments (22)Thankfully there are a couple of terrific new white hybrid teas to add to this list, that have been released since that last post. Amazing Grace '07 is a fantastic HT, bred by our very own Bruce Chapman. Superbly formed with high pointed spiral blooms and the whitest of white colour. Also has a very nice fragrance. I have a couple of them and am really looking forward to them being fully grown, as they're apparently very prolific. Really love this rose. Form second to probably only Tineke (for white HT's) and fragrance second to probably only Full Sail (for white HT's). And just released this year, Pope John Paul 2 is another outstanding white HT, which many regard as the best white HT of all time. I've been reading rave reviews of it from the US for a while and now I'm seeing rave reviews of it from here. At the annual rose trials in Adelaide last October, it dominated, winning the Gold Medal, Marion de Boehme Memorial Award (Best Rose in Trial), Hamilton Gardens New Zealand Perpetual Trophy (Best Hybrid Tea) and Governor of Gifu Japan Award (Most Fragrant Rose). It's renowned for its beautiful show form, strong "lemon" fragrance and the productivity and health of the bush. Was very tempted to buy one when I saw a batch of them at the local Bunnings the other day, but they are just babies and are very expensive, so I think I'll wait till they're available at better value. As for the other top fragrant HT's, my other favs are Full Sail (pure white sport of Aotearoa, which I just found out is a parent of Amazing Grace '07) and Memoire, which is a very well formed and large, full petaled, moderately fragrant Kordes rose. (I'll try to put one of the pics of one of my Amazing Grace's on here, but I've never put a photo on a forum before, so I may not do it properly first time.) Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreBroke my 'no body bag' rule and picked up some classic HTs
Comments (14)I bought my body bag roses a few weeks ago from Aldi and I'm very pleased. The following have been a success: Tiffany, Kordes Perfecta, Oklahoma, Oregold, Olympiad, Gold Medal, Tropicana, Sundowner, Love, Toro, Golden Shower, Pink Peace, America Climber, Chrysler Imperial, Red Masterpiece, John F. Kennedy, and Intrigue. The duds (they haven't broken out yet but still have green canes are Double Delight and Josephs Coat. Not bad given that my success rate for body bags used to be much lower. The only rose that has survived the thirteen years of change that my yard has undergone is a Don Juan. Your pic, Sultry, is so nice. The color on my DJ is a bit different, but the form is dead on. Where in Florida do you live? I don't think I'll see any body bag roses down here in Pembroke Pines....See Morekittymoonbeam
