Crisper with 'humidity control,' glass shelves etc. are they nece
Comments (1)Obviously, if they are optional a lot of people don't find them necessary. Humidity controled crispers allow you to preserve produce longer.Do you like shopping for produce twice a week at the local supermarket or farmers market? Or do you prefer to buy produce in bulk at Costco/Sam's? Many find glass shelves easier to keep clean. Some have the edges angled to prevent spills from reaching lower shelves. It depends if it has value to you....See MoreWhat do we need to control Humidity
Comments (10)jake I have a geothermal HVAC system. It is a 12 ton system with 3 Econar Geosource 2000 heat pump units. The loop field is horizontal and shared by all 3 units. I have 2 pumps for the loop system - one primary and one backup. One 3-ton and 1 6-ton unit cover the basement and main living areas - we have a master suite on the main level. I have another 3-ton unit to cover the second floor bedrooms which are almost never used. I have a Sante Fe whole house de-dumidifier in the basement and 2 Honeywell bypass humidfiers on the 2 hvac units in the basement. In September I will be installing a Broan Energy Recovery Vent with HEPA filter which should complete the HVAC system - finally. I have 2x6 construction with blown cellulose insulation. Anderson A400 windows and doors. The entire house was caulked on the inside and every nook and cranny not covered by the cellulose was foamed. We also have spray foam in the joist cavities (where cellulose dosn't stick too well) and the attic has 11 inches of cellulose which gives us an R38 barrier. The house is in the mid-atlantic region and in the mountains at 1200 feet elevation. When my system as installed by the builder, it did not have the humidifiers, dehumidifier, or ERV - all of which should have been part of the system. After several issues (dry air in winter, then damp floor in basement during the summer) I luckily I found this forum and learned what needed to be added to make it right. The Honeywell VP IAQ tstats are fantastic. I think Honeywell could improve the documentation - but rhe functionality is incredible for the price....See MoreMy plants need humid - but the humid is causing mildew. Compromise?
Comments (2)Most tropical and subtropical plants benefit from moderate to high humidity BUT most also appreciate ventilation and are adverse to stagnant air. My climate is generally humid even in winter and the plants sure give off a lot of water. I keep my more tender palms in the basement under a bank of florescent lights (in addition to a couple of cockatiels and an iguana. Nice and toasty down there int the winter with the furnace nearby. I keep a fan going to keep the air moving, makes a difference....See More16 SEER American Standard Pkg unit (4YCZ6036) 2009 - humidity control?
Comments (17)tiger_dunes, of course I googled the topic (and found the same manual), but I'm not accustomed to reading HVAC manuals. The tone of your comment, "First of all, help yourself with your research and learn to use Google or another search engine" is not helpful. The heating is natural gas, does that matter with respect to what type of blower is installed in the unit? I thought the SEER rating and the model # would have been enough to understand if it's capable of dehumidifying on demand. I didn't assume that it has a variable speed indoor fan. Frankly, all the websites that I went to talk about multi-speed fans and variable speed fans with a multitude of different opinions. In my untrained world, a multi-speed fan sounds a lot like a variable speed fan, but apparently they're different. I came to this forum to see if someone knows definitively and has had any experience with this unit and it's ability to dehumidify in conjunction with a thermostat that has a humidistat-type functionality. If you have experience with the unit I'm talking about and setting it up to dehumidify, then by all means, let your knowledge flow forth. If you don't, then please refrain from telling me how to educate myself with respect to search engines and google....See Morebpchiil
