Collar to join two 4 x 10 heat registers

Seems so simple but haven't yet found! I want to mount a 4 x 10 heat register on a wall and have the same immediately opposite on the other side of the wall. Total wall thickness is 4-1/2 inches [3-1/2 inches for the 2x4 stud plus 1/2 inch drywall on both sides]. I would think there is such a thing as a collar or coupler to join together two standard heat registers.

The purpose is to allow heat from heated room into the unheated room.

Can anyone direct me to where I might buy such a product?

A hole like that is unlikely to do much without some means of air flow. If you have forced air heating and the heated room doesn't have its own return, you could create flow by closing the door of the heated room and keeping the door of the unheated room open. Otherwise, I doubt this will accomplish what you think.

Farther down the wall dividing the two rooms, there is indeed a door I leave open. Where I would locate the heat register in Room A is aside a 38,400 BTU Rinnai wall furnace. The Rinnai certainly does heat Room B on the other side of the wall via that open door. All I want with the register is to add a little more. Room B is just a workshop.

A recent update from the person who received the yucca is that it is green and doing well. The transplanted cholla are doing well, of course, but it will be a while before I know if any sacaton survived. We have been making progress but not as quickly as we hoped. (No surprise there! ;-) ) We have the foundation blocks for the outside beds in place up to ground level and filled with dirt. Pavers have been placed, but not yet leveled, between the existing shed and the north edge of the foundation. We have the water and electrical stubbed in. We have the SHCS tubes in place for the outside beds of the east greenhouse and hope to start filling that section soon with the removed dirt. We have removed all planned use of poured concrete from our plans and have made this planned structure possible to remove easily while still unlikely to be blown away. (Mostly due to bolting the foundation via J-bolts to rebar under bond beam cement blocks.) DH will be checking to see what type of permits/inspections we will need for electrical, water, and structures. I suspect that it will be just water and electric. We won't fill in any more until we find out. It is getting hot already so we will be putting in the outside structure and shade cloth before the central shed and greenhouses. That way we can work in the shade. :-)

clvlnd- It all epends how warm you want it. I have a 10' X 15' single pane glass greenhouse in Zone 8. I heat my greenhouse with an electric, 900W/1500W oil-filled heater. It's got a thermostat and I keep it on the lowest setting so the temp stays above freezing. You can usually get a decent one for about $50 (e.g., from Amazon). If you get an electric heater that draws more than 1500W, or run more than one, you're going to blow the breaker on a standard 15 amp circuit, especially if you have anything else plugged in. If you want to use something bigger, you're going to have to seriously upgrade the wiring that supplies electricity to your GH. One of the reasons I can get by with a small heater is that I also have 3 seed-starting mats that measure 1.5' X 4', and each one only draws 100W. I just set my sensitive plants and seedlings on that and everything seems to be happy. Since I usually have a power outage a couple of times during the winter, I have a small propane heater for backup.

Hi funnylady, Yes, we did... The important word to note here is 'did' :-( Not sure if you have heard of the horrible wind storm the NW had a few months back.... Well it hit here with a vengeance. Normal high wind speeds of 15-20 mph (and that is a wind storm! Usually it's abt 0-3 mph) was clocked up the street at 84mph. Good new was.... Greenhouse frame still standing... other good news... I was able to locate all of the panels, even though several were abt 5-7 acres away behind our barn or some in the other direction out at the road ... Basically all went together well, (except we had planned on changing the doors to hinged rather than sliders) and we didn't get around to screwing the panels down (although they were double clipped). Overall the GH fared winter well... rain, snow and ice were no problem... but those horrific winds, well that was another story... We were without power for abt 3 days and friends had nineteen 100'+ Fir trees that came down (we were lucky, only branches everywhere) all our trees held their ground. Not sure any greenhouse could have withstood that windstorm, but had we screwed the panels in as planned we might have had even less damage.... Ah well.... BTW panels were all fine... are installed and screwed in now... don't want to tempt fate, but think it just might withstand that huge storm this time....

what size and efficiency furnace are you replacing? Was a load calculation performed by either dealer for proper sizing of both furnace and AC? on Contractor #1 Rheem, no model numbers on either furnace or AC...can't comment without that. I would not have electronic air cleaner, prefer a good 4-5" pleated filter media cabinet. certainly the electrical wiring for the AC should be included in the cost, that's bizarre. on Contractor #2 Bryant, the AC quoted is low end, I would not have it. i assume you have noticed the sizing differences both furnace and AC when comparing the two quotes. post back. IMO

I mentioned a forced air system that could blow air out of the warmer room if its normal path to the return were blocked by a closed door. What you have is not that and I doubt your idea for a small through-wall passage will do much if a door between the rooms is already left open.

Yes, that's what you said. But with the 7 stage direct vent Rinnai wall furnace I have, the heat flows everywhere, under doors and other openings. So I see no reason why heat flow to Room B would not be even better. See this video. Rinnai wall furnace heats entire house

What I was aiming at was a pressure differential causing flow. What you have doesn't do that.

Heat does not "flow" through closed doors on its own without airflow. If it did, you wouldn't have this question to ask.

Guess I am not understanding. All I know is that with the same Rinnai wall furnace I have upstairs in the living room, as per the video, heat flows under the closed bedroom doors.
