help updating a bathroom with old blue tile
Comments (7)Your tiles are in great shape and should be easy to work with. I would embrace the period and have fun with it. I'd look for a pretty shower curtain that incorporates the blue and stick with a white close to the color in the floor tiles. I would keep fixtures in chrome, which are period appropriate for your bathroom. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-22-in-W-x-28-in-L-Framed-Fog-Free-Wall-Mirror-in-Silver-81168/205577496 Embrace the time period in the bathroom with a light style that is from the same period. https://www.amazon.com/Nuvo-76-277-Diamond-Channel/dp/B002OMJBNO This shower curtain would be great in your mid century style bathroom. https://www.opensky.com/avlolo/product/mid-century-modern-retro-drop-shapes-in-shower-curtain-60x72-inches? Since you don't have a lot of room to hang towels, I would add over the door towel hooks and something like this over the toilet to store towels. https://www.wayfair.com/home-improvement/pdp/dotted-line-demi-wall-mounted-towel-rack-w001991980.html?piid=...See MoreUpdating Dated bathroom
Comments (15)it's not that bad. painting that vanity isn't going to do all that much. (and I've seen that type of bathroom decor stained darker?? nope. doesn't look good. either leave them or paint them.) get new hardware, new lights, and a big throw rug for the middle of the floor. changing the lights, and maybe framing those mirrors w/simple white frames will do a lot for the look. save your money for the next year or so until you have the budget to completely redo it. tile, vanity, shower, the works. You have a huge, wonderful space, and with the proper budget could be one hell of a master bath. start looking now for something you like. and you're going to need north of 30K to make it happen. minimum. (if you and friends can demo, you could prob save a few thousand from that) start looking a pics of showers w/free standing tubs to get an idea of what you may like. as long as you don't have to move plumbing, you can keep down some of the costs. I'd probably do a double vanity on one side, and the other side make a larger shower so many great ideas you could do w/that space. majority of these will not be had for 30K though....See MoreHelp me update my 1940's bathroom
Comments (22)I'm guessing your existing bath is about 15' long. That's not "slightly bigger" than 11' long, that's 36% bigger. 4' makes a world of difference in bathroom design, as it gives you room for a tub at the end. I guess I can see one (crowded) solution: put the toilet where the vanity is now, put the vanity in the alcove, tear down the wall between tub and toilet, put a tiny 3x3 shower in the corner (you might be able to eke out 3'x4' if you're lucky), and a tub next to it. This will work if you hate tub/shower combos more than you hate tiny showers. I wouldn't do it, because I like me some elbow room. But we all have different preferences, so that might work for you....See MoreHelp with updating 50's bathroom - pink tile challenge
Comments (19)swiss coffee sounds like it would be so pretty with that tile! post pics! if you still think the pink is too much, consider a pretty shower curtain that's closed all the time. one other suggestion (and I might get some flak for it here on houzz): if it's just the wall tile that bothers you, you can have it reglazed. a good company will do this with multiple layers of epoxy, clear coat, etc, so it's super tough. a side bonus is the old grout will be sealed. I wouldn't recommend this for a tub, but for wall tiles it should hold up pretty well. with close inspection, it won't look as real as normal tile and grout, but if you hate the pink tile, it would be an improvement. I find that white gives the most realistic looking outcome. FWIW: I like the pink tile though!...See MoreRelated Professionals
