Comments (10)Well, that would be a silly waste of a nice piece of wood. better to use a cardboard coffin in a green cemetary... but speaking of multi-purposing things & keeping an open mind... One of my old neighbors was a total extrovert who loved the holidays. Around mid-October, he'd put out the spider webs & skeletons & he'd set up mood lighting under a big tree & prop a coffin up under the tree & put a Dracula figure (sort of like a scarecrow) in it. He used to have a big Santa sleigh for Christmas, but someone stole it, so I was curious to see what would happen in December. drove by one night to see a life-sized Nativity scene with a "manger" that looked disturbingly familiar. It was Dracula's recycled coffin, filled with hay or straw, complete with a swaddling-wrapped baby doll....See MoreIt's A Boy!!!
Comments (14)I have tried blue on the walls over the years and to be honest it is really tricky to work with. I don't think it's just me either because blue never becomes really popular as a decorating color for very long. If you lighten them up so they are not so, umm, blue, they get cold looking. If you warm them up they get dark. If you pick out the really nice, attractive, pretty blues they look like what you are describing. And I'm guessing the term unsophisticated was being generous. If you end up with a limited amount of painted wall space showing after your cabinets are done it will really change the impact of the blue but if the walls dominate the space you might just have to repaint. Maybe the ceiling will still work for you....See MoreNeeding fresh ideas for kitchen layout
Comments (27)I have not read all of your wondering but read through this quickly and I have some ideas. I would do two doors for your outdoor area, one from the dining and one from the kitchen to maybe an outdoor grill. I think an large island would function nicely as a prep area and adding two to three barstools would make a nice place to have breakfast or for your kid to help you cook. I usually like having the recycling under the sink or near it, so that is what i would do. A secondary workspace in the corner is nice when there are dinner parties and you want to keep the clutter away. I would go for and open plan kitchen dining, and if there is a deck it would make the entire are look really big and spacious. Putting a big sink with a view to the back and maybe a small prep sink in the island. This is my proposed layout, the sizing is not completely correct but i tried my best. A nice half bathroom with a door that swings in "hiding" the toilet. Then a little prep nook and pantry with wall hung oven/microwave (This could serve nicely for grill prep and baking). Then a L shape main kitchen and an island. I would do a oven below the cooktop for when you are cooking meals you don't have to walk through your entire kitchen with hot food. This plan also makes it so when you are walking down the hall the kitchen isn't the main focus. Hopes this helps or just gives you a new idea. Love to see what you end up doing :)...See Moreeld6161
