$1000 for 11 X 14 bound carpeting ?
Comments (6)There is a big carpet warehouse here in Delaware that binds anything you want, in their store, for $2.00 per linear foot. Other than that, I can't tell you what it would cost to get the kind of carpet you are looking for. I would think you could find something pretty nice for $1,000 in that size though. I'm about to do the same thing in my BR. Taking out the wall to wall, putting down wood, then will need to add one large or three small rugs to walk on. I think it will cost the same whether I do the one large or the three small....See MoreCarpet remnant to area rug?
Comments (7)I don't think Fray Check will be strong enough to do the job. When you vacuum at the edge, you risk snagging a carpet fiber and having it pull. Depending on the type of carpet, the canvas duck border may work. But if the carpet has any sort of 'plushness' to it, it won't hold well with iron on adhesive. If it's a really low pile carpet, you could probably get away with the canvas duck edging and a good fabric glue. I just used some on a project I did and was amazed at how strong that stuff is. But still, don't expect it to hold up forever. As for the sew on binding, it's certainly worth checking to see if they'll do it on your remnant - you may be surprised. But you'd still be paying middleman costs - the carpet seller usually has an agreement with a place to do binding - all parties want a profit. See if you can get to the binder directly. Check you local classified ads for carpet installers - many work independently from carpet stores. That would be the first place I'd check for a lead - ask who does binding....See MoreBound broadloom instead of area rug??
Comments (12)I had a bound broadloom done too. Get a price for the binding though-- the price varied dramatically, and for a 10 x 10, it was about $100 extra. Some stores were as high as $5 a linear foot for the binding. The nice thing about it is that you can one to your exact measurements, plus if it's less than 12 (or 13') wide, you get the extra, which you can use for a runner or other rug (although you'll have to pay for binding for that too)....See MoreHow/where do I order a custom-sized area rug?
Comments (17)From what you describe as your needs, to survive children & peta, I would get high quality carpeting bound as an area rug. That is what I am doing as i want the carpet to be able to be removed for deep cleaning. Am going with Smartstrand, best price I am finding is at the big boxes. https://www.mohawkflooring.com/flooring/carpet/brand/smartstrand/ http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2365927/mohawk-smartstrand-carpet...See MoreWiles Design Group
