How difficult/costly to cut down area rug?
Comments (2)in my area there are carpet shops that do custom binding and also custom area rugs. If you have someone like that listed in the phone book that would be the first place to try. I don't think you would get good results from using just any installer....See MoreGood source to order wool broadloom?
Comments (2)Thank you skyedog. The Morris area rug you linked to is beautiful and would probably work size-wise. I had already looked at ebay when I was trying to decide if I could find a pattern I could afford that I also liked. The problem is that after trying a several patterns, I've concluded that to stay true to my "vision" of the house, I need to keep the pattern clean. I have a hand tufted oriental (I plan to return to O.co) whose colors go perfectly with the room, but the pattern really makes the room look too traditional and I'm striving for a cleaner, modern effect. My husband really likes the rug and wants to keep it. It doesn't look bad, but its busyness takes the focus away from more important pieces in the room. Also, the ideal size is and almost square, which is unusual for a rug (the Morris rug is that shape!. The only way to have all the parameters come together is to get broadloom cut and bound to size, and I'm trying to find a source that's a bit more affordable. The rug I like best is $102/sq yd locally and $88 from the NC retailer....See MoreTrying to successfully mix stair runners and area rugs
Comments (8)@Chestnut "A" is broadloom by Shaw Tigress, marketed under a bunch of names like Sudbury . "D" is Stanton Atelier Barrett. Both are nylon. I went shopping again yesterday and I'm thinking "D" will be it, but I still need to find area rugs. I am drawn to the one Arktillery posted as well, it may go with the runner and add enough interest (the online reviews are so-so). My concern with the Dec 12 15:20 rug is that it may be too plain (Surya, Candice Olsen collection, wool). I feel like if I did that I may need to add some wallpaper to the staircase to liven things up a bit. Here's another (on the busy side, suzani) :...See MoreWhat are your thought on having carpet bound...
Comments (9)I was originally going to do that for our living room but ended up buying a different one instead. Remnants are a great way to save money too. Sabbath, why would anyone consider it to be tacky. If you have it professionally bound and have a pad under it, they look just like any other rug and no one would ever be the wiser....See Morejockewing
