Comments (9)George, let me take a swing at a few of those questions: Firstly, modern tree planting tech involves no fertilizer nor soil amendments at planting. I can provide the exact reasons, but for your purposes at present, I can assure you these two points are correct. Simply backfill with the same soil you removed. Second, all woody plants should be placed such that the root flare-that swollen area where the roots and stem diverge from each other-is at or slightly above grade. Too deep is never good. Yes, if you see circling roots, roots that will put the squeeze on each other or the trunk itself as they grow, you should try to straighten these out as much as possible, such that they resemble spokes on a wheel. Only you can decide how much of this correction is possible or reasonable. It probably does not pay off to totally destroy the root system in trying to accomplish this. But it can be well worth it to attempt to fix the worst of them. I do not believe the old notion that, in order to make up for lost roots, some certain percentage of the top should be pruned away. Plant physiology does not support this idea. All foliage supports the root system. Since root regeneration is job one for any new transplant, the more living foliage, the faster this occurs. I am less certain of the spacing question. I'm not entirely sure what plant you are dealing with. But generally, for screening purposes, plants can indeed be placed quite closely. As they all develop together, they tend to accomodate one another. Planting is quite simple. The farther away from this simplicity one goes, the higher the probability that they are venturing into unadvisable territory! Hope this helps.......+oM...See More$1377 to install tiles in a 10 x 11 laundry room????
Comments (16)buddysmom- Make sure to research who Lowes is going to send to install your tile. The previous owner of this house hired Lowes to install the kitchen tile and it is the absolute worst tile job ever. My 11 yr old could do better with no instruction or supervision. Tiles are not level to one another. Some are off by almost 1/2 an inch. They left baseboards in place and tiled them in. I had to use a crow bar, sawzall to remove a wall of baseboards. They didn't pull the dishwasher out so after closing, we went to pull the DW out to replace it and it would not come out. We had to loosen the counter. The grout was not mixed correctly and it is rough, too low in some areas, too high in others, it is spaced at a good 1/2"-1" apart. No, nothing is lined up perfectly. It is a really bad job. The neighbor went with her to Lowes to complain and Lowes said, too bad, that she knew it was independent contractors, Lowes would not work to fix any of the issues. She went through Lowes for some other work and it was done really well so I am not saying all the contractors do subpar work but I would want to speak with the company or person actually doing the work and to make sure they do quality work before the work started....See MoreMaster Bathroom Layout 6 x 14 Help Please
Comments (60)I have truly appreciated all your help in getting our project off the ground. Although it is the holiday tomorrow, we haven’t heard from our architect since last Thursday. We originally engaged our architect in February, and it will have been 5 months in the design phase of a 500 sf addition, which basically adds a master bed and bath. For context, it was supposed to take 4 weeks to get through design and on to construction documents. Instead, it has taken us 5 months. It took 4 weeks to provide an initial 2-story design which we liked, then 4 weeks to realize that he hadn’t accounted for the city setback and redesign a 2-story we didn’t like, 3 weeks to deliver a 1-story design without a setback (but that didn’t have a layout that worked), 2 weeks to redraw a drawing that I sent over. I pretty much thought we were done on May 25 and off to construction documents, but used all the extra time this past month to get the bathroom right. Is this typical of the design process? It seems to be taking longer than anticipated, given the scope of work. I still don't think we are on to construction documents, and he indicated this could take another 3 weeks. Appreciate your thoughts on whether this experience is common....See MoreHelp me find a 10x14 yellow rug!
Comments (16)You have the right idea with buying a sample-size rug before buying the larger size online. For one of a kind rugs though, I personally wouldn't risk it. The main reason is colours can't be trusted on screens and monitors and the second is the hassle and cost of returning a large heavy rug. (I bought an 8x10 outdoor patio rug on Amazon but it was inexpensive and lightweight.) You've no reputable local carpet and rug places to check out? A rug that size is an investment piece. It's not just the colour you want to get right, it's the feel of it, no? Great advice upthread. You seem to have your heart set on yellow. Have you considered gold? (per Everdebz' example) A muted yellow which might be easier to find in the size you require. On my screen, the happy yellow rug you shared in your initial post looks lovely (and reminds me of fabric I've spotted online recently) but I have no clue if my screen is rendering the same image as yours. On my screen, that Kaleen Melange rug is closer to mustard than daffodil. Yellow can be such a tricky colour to get "right" in home decor....See MoreFloortech
