Carpet remnant to area rug?

User

We have a large piece cream carpet leftover from a few years ago and I dug it out of the attic last night (I'm sure that would've been comical to watch.) to check the size; which is 9x10. We're going to need an area rug for the tv room in the basement and we were looking at similar colors. Could I cut it to size and use Dritz Fray Check around the edges? I read somewhere last night on blog where someone used this on a faux sheepskin rug they made. I'm assuming it would still look unfinished around the edges though since it's only 38oz carpet?

What about taking something like canvas duck and making a boarder around the edges? Maybe it could be ironed on with that no sew adhesive stuff? My wheels are turning.

I know carpet places will bind the edges of leftover remnants to make area rugs but usually you have to buy the remnant from them. It would be a huge pain to get it there and my goal here is to see if I can make this work for cheap.

Here is a link that might be useful: Fray Check
