Living room pictures, would love your suggestions
Comments (49)Well...I need to find this layout program so I can not use so many words, but in the meantime... I'd try dividing the space into 2 areas, divided by the front door walkway. Both of my ideas involve moving that TV, though. I don't feel that TV is ideally placed for this room to function well... Option #1 - Move the TV and couch to the R side of the room. The TV/entertainment center (though I like TV's on the wall these days) could serve as the 'focal point' on that side of the room while the fireplace does the same for the other half. It's all about lounging/watching TV over there - while the L side provides a conversation area around the fireplace. I'd put a chair on each side of the fireplace (wing backs, etc) - which would also serve to hide that window unit. Option #2 - Move the TV over in front of the window unit. Put the couch facing the fireplace and perhaps a chair on each side with a coffee table/ottoman in the middle? The R side of the room then becomes a conversation area away from the TV. Or, a game table and chairs could provide another function. Or, if the family is musical, a piano and sitting area would be nice. Or, if the family is full of bibliophiles, bookcases along the perimeter and some cozy sitting areas for reading would provide a third option to help the house/room function. Or, I could shut my mouth and try to go play with the floor planner. Time to try to put my money where my mouth is. lol...See MoreWhat would you do with this living room?
Comments (45)Hi...In my opinion (my field is not interior design), but I sure love it. I haven't read all the responses as I wanted to look at it and develop my own opinions/thoughts. First, I would NEVER sacrifice your outside view....I would keep my living room there and minimize items. If it was me, I would replace the slip covers on the white chairs with a more fitted style (see below). I would move the couch away from the window to maximize the view (seriously some ppl don't have any view). So I would figure a way to angle the couch so you can have that view. I would hang my tv up in the right side corner of the window so it is away from sun and doesn't take up space. I would also move that white chest out (looks like a file cabinet). and replace it with a more modern table (see below). As for the white shelves surrounding the tv, I would declutter it as it can be very elegant with just a few items. I would replace the ceiling fan with a modern style (3 blade) and have your recessed lights changed to LED and on dimmers. I would add a large plant/tree in a decorative basket for added warmth. Definitely center the rug (we have the same style of sofa in the family room). The view to the kitchen is an easy fix by decluttering (again, I think you have great bones here). Finally, I would paint, or tile the area under the island, per your taste/style. Sorry if there are any duplicate pictures . Anyways, the choices are endless for you (see below)....See MoreHelp! Comments (15)You could at least remove the wood blinds and replace with fabric roman shades or curtain panels to add some softness. I would consider removing one of the wood shelves in the built in cabinets and putting your t.v. in the built in to keep all your focal points in one area. I also like the idea of painting or papering the back of the book cases. You can have foam board or thin mdf cut to size and paint or paper those to avoid doing anything permanent to the wood. Since there is so much warmth in the walls and flooring, I like the idea of using cooler colors to decorate as in the picture with blues and greens Holly posted above. It's really a beautiful space and the right furniture and decor will show it at its fullest potential....See MoreSuggestions needed for the (big) final touches of my living-room
Comments (11)I like the bar idea. And I would definitely go with painted cabinets in a rich color to liven up the space. Everything you currently have is either espresso brown or gray, and that gets monotonous pretty quickly. How deep is that space? Because to put a wine/beverage fridge there, you'll need at least 24" but preferably 25" of depth. Here's a bar we did for a client that does not have a wine fridge, but has painted cabinets with glass shelving: Their place is decidedly more rustic than yours, but it just gives you an idea of what can be done. Or you could do something like this with a tile backsplash and open shelving: And FWIW, it doesn't have to be a built in. You could find a nice tall bar cabinet that fits in the space.
