Master bedroom furniture too big??

This is my first time posting on here.

We are looking into buying bedroom furniture. We currently have none. The set that we liked is pretty big and I'm starting to wonder if it will look weird in our room.

The dresser is big and when you add the mirror it is pretty tall. While the furniture will definitly fit in our room...I worry that the top of the mirror is going to be too close to our ceiling.

So how much space is between your ceiling and dresser mirror? How tall is you dresser? We have never owned a bedroom set so I have nothing to compare it to.

Also depends on your living situation. Are you renting? Planning to move or buy another home in the near future?

If you might be relocating within a few years you may want to hold off investing in large multiple pieces to move and risk they won't fit or suit a new space. Perhaps get a couple matching pieces and add ones that will complement them in the future.

If the furniture will fit in the room without it being too crowded, I wouldn't worry about how tall the mirror is as long as it doesn't hit the ceiling. A large mirror will actually make the room look larger.

Just because it fits, doesn't mean it's the right scale for the room.

Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?

When we build, there won't be any rooms above our Master Bedroom. At the moment, my almost 13-year-old son and 3-year-old's room is over our Master Bedroom. My 8- and 10-year old's room is above the living room. Their bathroom is between their two rooms. When sleeping in, I can hear every single movement that my 13-year-old and 3-year do. There was carpet in the room which helps with the noise, but I hate carpet and put in wood flooring. If he drops something, I hear it. When he goes to the bathroom, I hear it. When all 4 of them are in one room, I can hear them. Just as this, I can hear every movement in my other boys' room when in the living room. They are very rambunctious and like to jump around. Another problem I have is that the pipe from their toilet/tub goes down the wall which is located between our living and kitchen/dining room. When they flush the toilet or let out their bath water, the pipe rattles in that wall. I know every time they use the bathroom and so do my guests. Most times it is rather embarrassing.

Yes, I think pink is a beautiful color for a master bedroom! The trick is picking the right pink and then balancing it with other elements that are not overly feminine. I love pink and brown together, or black. When choosing a grownup ink go to the brown section in your color deck. As you move up to the lighter colors you will see what I refer to as dirty pinks. These are softer, more pleasing pinks that men can love.

I agree. It's less about wall space it takes up than floor space. So long as you have plenty of room to walk around the bed and such, you should be fine.

Fwiw, my dresser mirror comes to within 3 feet of the ceiling, but it is also wider than it is tall.

Another thing to consider if you are worried about too much furniture for the space is you don't have to buy all the pieces or use them in the room if you do get them. Our small bedroom has a big bed and a big dresser and nothing else. Better to have a couple large items in a small space than lots of small ones. For bedside tables we use small wall mounted shelves.

How many pieces are you talking about putting in your room?

I'd suggest drawing up a floor plan using an online program. BGH has a nice one that allows you to change the size of the furniture. This will give you a little idea of how it would work.

You might also think about buying just the bare necessities at first. Once they are in the room you'll have a better idea if can comfortably fit more.

Definitely a large mirror will make the room appear bigger. But make sure it is at a considerable distance from the biggest furniture of your room. Light sleek furniture is advisable if you have a small room and want to give it an uncluttered look. All the best.

Don't buy a "set" of furniture. Buy only the pieces you need.

As reference, this room is 12 x 15, has a queen size bed, has no dresser in the room and could not take an additional item of furniture.
