The commercials weren't anything this year like in the past. There are some websites where you can go and check out the commercials. It's OK Sally if you didn't watch the game. But I'm a Colts fan, along with being a Texans fan, and I can only say that the game was very exciting, . . . well at least here at our house. We had 12 people here for a party, and the screaming was exciting. Peyton Manning was hot. And we all enjoyed the half time show with Prince signing Purple Rain as the rain continued to fall heavily. But then we are an "older group of people". Not quite senior citizens yet, but quickly approaching there. HA! It rained and rained and rained. Considering all, with the sloppy field, I really think both teams played well. I read that it was the worst weather ever in Super Bowl history, so all in all we thought that it was a good game. And of course it really helps to watch Super Bowl when you have your favorite team playing. Anyway, I HAD A GREAT TIME!

When the Tampa Bay Bucs were in the Superbowl, it was a great opportunity to make a spread of Cuban and Spanish food e.g. Cuban sandwiches, Scacciata, Spanish bean soup, crab rolls. This is what I'm going to try: Pepperoni Pizza Dip Recipe courtesy Guy Fieri 8 to 10 appetizer servings Pizza Sauce: 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1/4 teaspoon red chile flakes 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes (recommended: fire roasted Muir Glen) 1 tablespoon julienne fresh basil leaves, plus sprig for garnish 1 teaspoon dried marjoram 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Bottom Layer: 8 ounces cream cheese, softened 2/3 cup ricotta cheese 1/3 cup grated Parmesan 1 egg, slightly beaten 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon red chile flakes Pizza Toppings: 1 tablespoon olive oil, plus more for drizzling 1 cup thinly sliced pepperoni 1/2 cup diced (1/4-inch) red bell pepper 1 tablespoon minced shallot 1/2 cup quartered and thinly sliced crimini mushrooms 1 cup small-dice buffalo mozzarella cheese 1/4 cup grated Parmesan Serving suggestions: Toasted pizza dough strips, toasted pita strips, or crackers Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. For the pizza sauce: Add the olive oil to a 12-inch saute pan over medium heat and, when hot, add the onion. Saute until translucent. Add the garlic and red chile flakes, cook for 1 minute, and then add the canned tomatoes. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. When the mixture has thickened, stir in the fresh and dried spices. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes and adjust seasoning, if necessary. Remove from the heat. For the bottom layer: In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese, ricotta, Parmesan, egg, garlic and spices. Spread the mixture evenly into an oven-safe casserole (2-quart capacity or a 9-inch pie pan). Set aside. For the toppings: In a small saute pan over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil and the pepperoni. Saute until the pepperoni is just crisp, 4 to 5 minutes, and then drain on a paper towel-lined plate. Add the remaining olive oil and the red bell peppers and saute over medium-high heat until just starting to soften. Add the shallot, cook for 2 minutes, and then add the mushrooms. Cook for 7 to 10 minutes and remove from the heat. To assemble: Spread the pizza sauce over the top of the bottom layer of cheese, sprinkle with the pepper and mushroom mixture, and then the pepperoni. Evenly distribute the mozzarella over the top and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the Parmesan. Garnish with the basil sprig and serve hot with pizza dough strips, toasted pita strips, or crackers.

I tried to get out of it by scheduling his teeth (two of 'em) extraction for that afternoon. It didn't work, he came home, got over it, and said 'get dressed mom, we're going dancing'. Dang (for those who don't know me yet, thats why they call me 'Evil Jessy'). Sent the rest of the family out for dinner. Today I drove DS #1 to take a practice SAT/ACT exam, and we're hanging the rest of the day. Tomorrow is the game! Basketball, right? What do I know.....its all about the food and company. Thanks Mcmann, for being a voice of reason. Budweiser is the exclusive beverage sponsor of the Superbowl and has run one time commercials every year during Superbowl since 1976. If they did not want to make money off of their commercials they should have just quietly donated the money that was sent to the advertising agency to create it, and the network for the air time, and the game sponsorship fund, to a patriotic fund, and not done any commercial at all that year. There had been talk in 2002 of not even having a Superbowl game due to the mood of the populace and the extra security issues involved with such a large gathering of people at that time. I'm sure their original idea for one of their notorious wacky Superbowl commercials was scrapped. Budweiser is known for showing offbeat and tasteless commercials during Superbowl. (Check out their famed 'Upside Down Clown' commercial 2004) They had to make themselves look good that year. I can't believe anyone thought that Budweiser put together a commercial with the intent "not to make money" from it. They wanted to get their brand name out there and you can see how well it worked since people are still talking about that Budweiser beer commercial and sending around and around in emails still to this day.
