Book Report Time; What Are Your Favorite Herbals?
Comments (7)My favorite herbals are always written by practicing herbalists rather than academic researchers (who are more likely to be alarmist and also more likely to present inaccurate information). That said, my favorites are: The Book of Herbal Wisdom by Matthew Wood - a fabulous herbalist with an amazing understanding of the plants. The Complete Floral Healer by Anne McIntyre - An English herbalist with Ayurvedic leanings, this book is gorgeous, full of color pictures, covering lots of common plants with unusual information (including flower essences and homeopathy) The Complete Women's Herbal by Anne McIntyre - Also beautifully done, with lots of monograms on specific herbs along with the female body systems including nutritional information. Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West by Michael Moore - Moore is the grandfather of modern herbalism, he knows his plants better than just about anyone, thorough and down to earth. You don't need to live in the West to benefit from his books. Healing Wise by Susun Weed - Simple, down to earth, focusing on a few common weeds with great depth. Common Herbs for Natural Health by Juliette Levy - Juliette was one of Rosemary Gladstar's great inspirations, she has much folk knowledge from the world over that still isn't commonly known. A Modern Herbal by Maude Grieve - A classic, still very accurate with tons of herbal history and solid information. The Physiomedical Dispensatory - An invaluable classic for the herbal practitioner. Clear, concise and accurate. I'll also strongly second the vote for Rosemary Gladstar's Family Herbal, well done and very accessible. Comments (12)Every time I walk out the door. When I walk up to my pond, my fishes are always eager to see me and swim up saying Feed Me! Feed Me!. I have to force myself not to every time. I feed them Saki Hikari because it has probiotics in it for better digestion. As I toss them in the pond the moving water from the falls pushes the pellets that don't get eaten immediately toward the lilies and they get caught up there. It's fun just to watch and try to guess which one finds the last one. They don't leave a single one. There's always something to see. My Martin condo is just over the pond and they love it also. Now with the babies, when I go out the parents dive-bomb me around the pond though. They fly so close you feel the wind from them and they screech right in my ears, telling me not to bother their babies. Isn't nature grand? Even before I had a pond, I've always been known to visit and talk to my plants too. Glenda...See MoreWhats your favorite time of the day
Comments (17)I stroll through early morning.. but the bugs are very bad at that time.. I still try to sniff the roses, pull a couple of weeds before work..But nothing like seeing a rose or a new daylily seedling for the first time in the AM before the sun gets to it.. looks great.. As the day goes along the dragonflies come out.. thousands at a time, this is my favorite time to WORK in the garden, even with the sun.. there are no bugs with the dragonfly friends hovering around my head.. My favorite time to take pictures and enjoy the garden is early to late evening, it cools down (we can hit 90 in the day and 50 at night here) and the light is perfect to take some pics... So I guess I have favorite times of day to do different types of activities in the garden.. Silverkelt...See MoreWhat is your favorite song of all time
Comments (53)Way way too many to list, or even to bring to mind! My top one is probably Canon in D - My heart turns over when I listen to that song. Second, maybe River Dance. I love so many that are already listed in this thread. Someone mentioned Oh Danny Boy and in that same category is Loch Lomand, two ancient songs that I've sung thousands of times. Used to sing them to my kids when they were babies and still sing them to myself from time to time. I have some favorite hymns... Amazing Grace and This is my Father's World are a couple. Unchained Melody - Wonderful song mentioned above. Many others. I love country western and old time rock. My list would be dozens if not hundreds!...See Morenicole___
