I use Picasa which is part of Google for photo posting. I've never had issues with it. I do have an issue with Tinypic in that most of the time when someone else uploads photos with Tinypic, I get a blue box with a question mark. Only once in a blue moon will photos load that have been uploaded with Tinypic and ones that loaded yesterday probably will not today. I don't know if the problem is cause by my limited bandwidth or the browser I use (though I have tried changing browser settings without any improvement) but Tinypic doesn't work with my computer.

I use shutterfly and have been very happy with it...I use them to make my Xmas cards, calendars, photo books and they make a good product.

I use smugmug, which doesn't have a free option because they don't have ad revenue. I used photobucket and disliked it enough to jump to smugmug six or seven years ago. Some issues with smugmug, usually around new iPhone software updates, but nothing unmanageable.

Annie - I've ordered prints through Shutterfly before, but I don't think you can embed an html code for photos here. ? I'm only looking to store a few photos that I plan to upload specifically to here and that's it.

Kswl - I may just try Smugmug. If you delete your images from Smugmug and you have the photo linked here, it will break the link, right? Isn't that how embedding codes work?

Yes, that is how it works. I don't think I have ever deleted an image from smugmug; like most sites the storage capacity is so far in excess of what I will ever use I just keep them all, so I haven't had a broken link to a photo published here.

Flickr. Easy to use, wonderful hi-resolution display, can create photobooks, wall art, calendars, cards, or order prints. Flickr has a great phone app too, which I like primarily for showing my work to others (the hi-res display), but also is easy to use for uploading/organizing/sharing photos. I enjoy the photography discussion groups.

Awm - Do my photos have to be public in order for me to post them here? Again, I only want to load photos I'll be posting, but at the same time, I like I could put my album in PB to private so people couldn't go through the album.

Also will the links break if I delete the photo from Flickr? I just searched their site and found a topic where someone was having this issue.

Since you can have multiple albums in Flickr, perhaps keep private photos in a private album, and public photos in a public album. It's good housekeeping to separate the two anyway. Looks like you can mix public & private in the same album though, if that suits you better.

I embed photos from shutterfly here all the time. You pull the pic up you want to embed. On the mac, I mouse over it and hit CTRL+click to get the pop up menu and select "copy image URL"....may be different on a PC. Then when you come here you enter it as follows, pasting the URL where the xxx is...

Using Windows 7 & Firefox, I can't right click on a Flickr photo to copy the URL, but it's designed that way so that nobody else can either. It's supposed to prevent people from copying your photo without your permission (even though you could just use the Windows Snipping Tool or the PrtSc key to copy the image & save it to your computer for uploading).

To copy the URL, click on the Flickr picture & click on the Share arrow. You'll have a number of size & format options to Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V into a .GW post. In the Share options, you can link your Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest account for easy sharing with those too.

What got me using Flickr was my photo processing software, PaintShop Pro & ACDSee. Both have an Upload To Flickr feature. So it's easy to take the pictures, fix, tweak or tag them in the software, then upload to Flickr from the software.

I use the img src thing a lot. It allows for multiple pics in a thread, and I use it also on images from the internet that I want to paste in a thread...fabrics and such...

Awm - How is it that there are times I'll save a photo someone posted from here or a blog to save in an inspiration folder, and I'll 'save as' but I can't view the photo. I noticed sometimes I can still view it as long as I don't rename it. I thought maybe that's what you just described, but I was able to do that to your photo and view it. Is it the photo sharing site they're using?

Annie - That would be much faster doing it that way than saving and uploading first.

I feel like such a doof for not knowing this stuff. I know a few years back someone, Terriks or maybe Graywings, explained the img thing and I didn't write it down or start using it. I made note this time.

Sheesh, I don't know why Save As doesn't always work for a posted image. I always right click and use Copy Image (is that a Windows feature?). Works here at GW, but not on sites that protect images.

Theoretically, you should not do the save as or copy as as it is a copyright violation. If you repost a link, you are not taking a copy of the image and so are not violating copyright.
