Favorite books of 2006 ... so far

With 2006 half gone, which books have impressed/enchanted/thilled/amused you the most this year?

I haven't had many stand-outs this year, but so far my favorites have been:

My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell (he's wonderful - thank you, Netla, for mentioning him here, I don't know how I missed this author!).

The Thin Place by Kathryn Davis (a book about what goes on beneath our daily lives, narrated in some spots by dogs and beavers - it's hard to explain but I found it magical and compelling)

Merry Hall and its sequels, Laughter on the Stairs and Sunlight on the Lawn, by Beverley Nichols. These books recount his renovation of an English house and garden in the 1950s.
