Preamble: My gardening style could be politely termed 'semi-organised chaos'. (The neighbour warns his kids about lofting their tennis balls over the fence - 'it's a jungle in there!' Ha!) So the daffodils hang out with a sequence of perennials, mostly: Hosta, Astrantia, Saxifrage, Libertia, Clematis integrifolia, polite Tradescantia, Origanum, Athyrium, Thalictrum, and bulbs that flower later such as Tritonia, Freesia, Ixia, Albuca, and the occasional calla. The 'worst' leaf problem comes, for me, from the very earliest - such as 'Erlicheer' - whose leaves linger until nearly Christmas and they're too big to disguise, so I pretend they're not there and let the Aquilegias, miniature roses, and true Geraniums divert the eyes. (It mostly 'works'...I hope.) If I use annuals I tend to go for plants such as petunia, verbena, and Impatiens because I am a lazy waterer for the in-ground plants. The plus, for me, is that the perennials are well-established now and quickly cover the daffodil sites with leaves without encroaching on their actual space; so the soil stays protected and slightly damper - which suits several of the cyclamineus sorts. And they're at rest when the daffs are heading toward the sun. The annuals usefully provide colour spots and continuity. I'd propose using both.

I know you may not have any left now, but if you are interested I have lots of paper whites in my horse pasture. They are blooming now in sunny locations and not yet in bloom in slightly shadier. They bloom later than all of the rest of my narcissus. I'm always looking for flowering bulbs and tubers I don't already have that suit my zone and soil. I really need to make a wanted and trade list!

Ah, I don't have ferns or hellebores (and the geraniums are all much too late) in my home garden. Everything is still really quite tiny (primulas, aubrieta, minuscule campanulas, saxifrage) so I only grow the little hoop petticoats and a few snowdrops at home. I don't have any spring bulbs in the little raised beds (because the hyacinths are even worse than the narcissus), and really mostly grow tulips in the vegetable beds at the allotment and other bulbs amongst the ramblers. It is in the woods where narcissus have really come into their own, where I can leave the foliage for as long as I like cos they are in great drifts in rapidly elongating grass. I guess we are all trying to get variety and beauty in whatever space we have available to us and for me, in a very small courthouse type garden, I have gone for a sort of layered look where the height and lushness of the beds increases as the year progresses, until it is all a bit of a towering, impassable (but very floriferous) jungle, by the end of September/October, while a lot of early flowering plants are dormant underneath the canopy. eta - actually, this is a lie - I do have asplenium, holly fern and rusty-backed fern, along with Japanese anemones and saxefrage fortuneii, in a long, very thin border (40cm) running to the back gate. This is all that is in the bed so it is essentially mostly green, largely ignored and does it's thing reliably every year. I would die of boredom though, if my whole garden was dominated by just 3 types of plants.

I think OP is referring to the ones where the stem is lying flat on the ground, not just the angle of the flower head. Mine do it after heavy rain, wind and, very rarely, snow. Daffs in containers do it if they lack water. If the leaves and petals feel soft I'd suspect the soil's a bit dry. Or an animal might have walked through the bed. But it's odd that only some of them are doing it. I don't think it's anything to do with how they were planted.
