Rooms Bloom with Daffodil Colors
Spread sunshine throughout your home's interior design with the yellow and green colors of this flower-power palette
I don't know about your neck of the woods, but down here in Birmingham, Alabama, winter seems to have gone missing. I've spent more days in T-shirts than in sweaters, and we have yet to get the annual dusting of snow that shuts down the city and sends us scampering to clean the stores out of bread and milk. Not to mention that the daffodils in my backyard started blooming before Valentine's Day!
This beautiful weather has me thinking ahead to spring decorating in my house, and I'm taking my cue from sprightly yellow daffodil blossoms. Green and yellow is a classic color scheme that never goes stale, and it spreads cheer wherever you bring it into a home. Check out these photos for inspiration.

Consider the source. It's said that colors found together in nature will go together in decorating, and I can't think of a better example than daffodils. Their kelly green and lemon yellow — two saturated, happy hues — are made for each other.
This spring-fresh space is a study in layering. The crisp whites calm the kelly green and zesty yellow accents, and the tailored lines keep the space from feeling girlish.
Doesn't this slice of citrus put you in a good mood? I see another fun pop of color every time I look at it — from the lemon-yellow stair treads to the lime-green corbels under the cabinets. Separating the colors with white helps keep them from fighting each other and overwhelming the space.
The green and yellow touches in this cheery bedroom are minimal, but they make their presence felt. The pillows add life to an otherwise neutral space, and I love the way the grid of artwork above the bed pulls the kelly green upward. Also, because of the yellow notes, the drapery and bedskirt fabric reads more gold than brown.
With, let's say, khaki walls and red upholstery, this room would feel ultratraditional. What a difference the colors make. Zesty yellow and luscious emerald green make it fresh without straying too far from its dignified personality.
Yellow dishware brings out the green cabinet backs, draperies and trim in this dining area. The bright colors are used with a judicious hand here, to pleasing effect — painting all of the millwork green or upholstering the chairs in a similar shade would have been over the top.
OK, it's only a towel, but that one shot of yellow wakes up the mannerly wallpaper in this bath. If you've always wondered how much small accents really matter, this is your proof.
Green and yellow show their softer side in this ladylike space. Barely there butter and mint hues are a perfect match for the room's refined architecture and feminine details.
