Being as I am a University of Alabama alumni, we are tooting our horns tonite.

Mark Ingram Wins 2009 Heisman Trophy

The closest race in Heisman history ended much like most of Mark Ingram's season. Try as they might, no one could quite bring down Alabama's power back.

The 5-foot-10, 215-pound Crimson Tide running back that no one could quite seem to knock off his feet this season, finished off another run Saturday night with the first Heisman trophy in Alabama school history.

Now off to Pasadena to win the #1 championship college football title.

I think the advice concerning the plug wire removal should be across the board "UNPLUG IT". In a perfect world there are two safeguards in place with no operator behind the handle...flywheel brakes and grounded kill wire. If you work on enough mowers one will see everything. The other day I did a carb job on an older guys mower. Once started I let go of the compliance cable handle and the engine was still running. The brake control bracket was stuck holding the flywheel brakes open. I released it and the engine kept running against the flywheel brakes. A check showed the ground wire was not in place so it would work consistently. The old guy grinned and said "I forgot to mention that...I like it because I don't have to restart to move something from the mower path". You just never know...unplug the wire, be safe, happy mowing. Mike Merritt

Jen and Tally: I think we were all typing at once! Sorry I missed you two...Tally, I don't even like 55 in January, but yeah, it's worse when the calendar says next week is April and our trees are trying to wake up! I love your idea of beautifying your street with "spare" plumies :) what a good neighbor you are! Who needs tomatoes? Well...I do love me a home-grown beefsteak...but as between tomatoes and plumeria, there's no doubt which wins LOL Once I need the space, those tomatoes will have to go. Jen: happy for you for your Waimea "score"! It's definitely one of the best. Kona Candy is pretty fab, too. In answer to your question: last year, a single inflo on my KC bloomed for six months straight. This year, in January, when all were sleeping, KC pushed this inflo and never slowed down; AND there's a new inflo on one of the other tips. So I answer an emphatic "YES INDEED!!" Smart cookie indeed, too! ;-) Yes, that is my evil plan: lease community garden space at rock-bottom prices so that I can continue my unchecked, fever-pitch purchasing of "must-haves" hahahahahahaha as I've said to you in the past: touchÃÂ©! 10x mag and flashlight, crazy? Not on MY planet, at least LOL I bought a headlamp and wear it as I search for new inflos nightly (just when I think I've learned to recognize the appearance of a just-formed inflo, these trees jerk me around!). The neighbors all think I'm a total freak hahaha which leads me to... Emily! Be proud of your obsess... er, I mean, "hobby." LOL Yes, mere mortals may think us strange, but what do they know?? I think there might be a grain of truth in what you said about my driving up demand ;-) I keep waiting for my OWN stock price to go up LOL but so far, nada. Thanks for the compliments, all! I agree Ziggy that engineering wetlands from scratch is tricky anyway without the added burden of trying to relocate mature trees. I'm guessing that politics had something to do with the effort to focus on relocating the actual trees rather than using more viable seedlings and saplings. Supposedly, Wall-Mart had to compensate for the loss of mature trees and not just the area of lost wetlands but perhaps that could have been accomplished by expanding the size of the restored wetland or including some component in the mitigation plan for longterm conservation of existing wetlands. I worked with the Corps for a few years doing environmental work and agree with your assessment that the Corps has accounted for more wetland loss despite a small few worthy efforts like the Everglades restoration. My experience was that Gov't agencies like the Corps take their lead from the White House Executive Office who have the power of appointment and policy committment to steer agencies fairly widely within the broad mission jurisdiction. I was in the private sector consulting with the Corps during the Reagan years when the Corps considered their environmental responsibilities to be elective - they were after all part of the DOD (Dept of Defense) though a civilian part. I was told many times by COE officials of my mitigation recommendations that I should be careful not to call for too much environmental adherence or the Corps would simply choose not to follow them. Later when I worked with the Corps as an employee during a more environmentally conscious administration, more (some) emphasis was given to environmentally friendly solutions when possible including avoidance and restoration as well as flood control that used natural principals (in addition to and often instead of engineered ones). There was also a more open planning process with public hearings and serious input from stakeholders. I hear now that under the new admin, all my friends in the Environmental Division either left or are hanging on and trying to wait it out. They don't get funded, they don't get to hire replacements, their managers are not scientists, their recommendations are ignored, they don't get invited to meetings that are now run by the engineer planners. So anyway, sorry you are unemployed. Maybe in the next administration, we'll see more emphasis on environmental management again.

They had a follow up show on many of the houses, all seemed to be doing well. They didn't show all the families again but a good number of them. What was shown they were neat & clean and still happy with what they had. They are also these days thinking about working from home and adding devices, tools with that in mind. I don't watch very often but one had a community center they built along with the house, and another had state of the art home office. Seems I read somewhere they did consider the financials of the family and not all of the homes are that big and elaborate. They have set up collage funds for the kids (one week it was 5 kids), given them new cars, and set up funds for high medical expenses and even paid off ALL past debt for some. The house systems seem to be state of the art energy effecient and some even solar. A TV show yes but I do see some good in it also. Same bad luck happens to those who win the lottery, think it is a matter of knowledge, education, management and planning. I don't watch the show anymore, it's now more about the family vs the home itself which is what I was interested in. It doesn't thrill me to see what a family on a free vacation does for the week or to sit through 1/2 hour of screaming, jumping, falling on the ground and oh my gods...it used to be about the makeover of a house not the details of the family. my thoughts.... karyn

Ok as a dyed in the wool, bleds orange TN Volfan..

(I was pulling for Flordia in the Sec game and will probably pull for Texas in the Championship game) I can't help it I was born that way. :)

I was tickled to death when Mark won it and then when I heard his acceptance speech I was brought to tears. I truly believe that he didn't think he had a chance to win against Tebow or McCoy..

So hats off to Mark...Congrats!!

littlebit-I'm afraid we will be on opposite sides New Years Eve! I'm a VA Tech alum. We play you (Tenn) in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl!

I knew Tebow wouldn't win because he already won once. In fact he only got 40+ votes for first place. I really thought Colt McCoy from Texas would get it.

Harry and I were both really surprised that BAMA hasn't had a winner before now. They've always seem to have pretty formidable teams.

I was for UF during the last game, but I'll be rootin' for Alabama come Jan. 1. My really, really favorite team is the FSU Seminoles but we stink lately. We are going to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville though on Jan. 17 (?) but only because they put FSU in it so Bobby could coach his last game there. He'll be coaching against WV--the school he left many years ago to go to FSU.

Hoping next season the ACC will rule!!

I saw a report on Mark Ingram & what a great thing for him! They said he's a sophomore but on schedule to graduate in a year! Remarkable for a football player!

Yes, I saw an interview with the dad (jailed for money laundering), expressing his pride and love for his son.

In spite of the family problems, Mark Ingram is a year ahead of himself in school and has achieved this incredibly high level of skill at playing football.
I loved how he got so emotional when they gave him the award.
