Being as I am a University of Alabama alumni, we are tooting our horns tonite.

Mark Ingram Wins 2009 Heisman Trophy

The closest race in Heisman history ended much like most of Mark Ingram's season. Try as they might, no one could quite bring down Alabama's power back.

The 5-foot-10, 215-pound Crimson Tide running back that no one could quite seem to knock off his feet this season, finished off another run Saturday night with the first Heisman trophy in Alabama school history.

Now off to Pasadena to win the #1 championship college football title.

After the first winter the first Euc scoparia endured, its top was frozen off. It was really small then. Almost 2 1/2 years later that Euc is over 30' tall and thriving. Hope it's OK through this. Planted another Euc scoparia 1 year 2 months ago, narrower leaves, and it got through last winter with no damage at all. Have a lot of Eucs that are rare, from Frank, but he moved back to Ohio and I'm not sure how to get more since Ian isn't down this way much. The Euc crenulata is still robustly flowering and growing really fast. Grown about 6' in the last 3 months. Thought it was a subcrenulata so planted it in the wrong location. None of my Eucs are able to be covered with anything anymore: too tall. Have a nitens that is going totally bonkers but is still slender and tender. A camphora that is over 30' tall, growing like a weed, extremely beautiful. Volcanica that is robustly growing. Bogong that is reedy and growing too fast, can't hold itself up. Spinning wheel that is shooting up up and away. On the other hand, the gorgeous Pinus monticola, native western white pine, hard to find, got it from an Xmas tree farm, died. Will try a little one. Really love these trees but my yard may be too shady and wet for it in the long run. More watering like a maniac tomorrow. At least the moisture stays put unlike summer where the next day the heat has evaporated all my hard work. Rainfall is down so drastically here that I fear this freeze will finish off a lot of neighborhood trees. Ppl think it still rains cats and dogs so never think to go water during a drought. They see the pavement wet and don't realize it misted just enough to give the appearance of wet but that never made it past the grass blade tops. I planted only water-loving Eucs here :-) And some that a very kind soul gave us for free, that I am not sure will make it or not -- a batch of 12 Australian plants that have not done much of anything so I'm not sure if they'll adapt or not. Going to take a bunch of pictures tomorrow to have memories of these magnificent trees just in case they expire in the winter weather. Have read that sometimes Eucs that freeze come back from the roots.

So glad you love your Top Knob hardware (and even their customer service)! I am thoroughly impressed with our Top Knobs sample too. The quality is by far the best of all of the samples that we have. While I would Love to get rid of our soffit, we don't have the budget to move the plumbing and electric, so it's staying for now. Have you looked at photos of kitchens with soffits vs kitchens without them? Or even a computer rendering of your kitchen with and without soffits (that would be best) - this way you could decide if the expense is worth it for you. Best wishes!

les917, I do like the Wisteria, but I have to consider that the room is so tight that the color is magnified. Perhaps it's bouncing off the walls at each other. I mean, just look at the criminal Constellation....looks so gentle and sweet in those photos. But put it on all 4 walls and Holy Cow, that room was radiating BLUE! So, I feared what would happen with that gentle spirit known as "Wisteria". I will be saving that paint chip and might use it down the road. There is one bedroom that still needs to be painted and you just never know, this could be the winner. I must say, that I feel so happy going forward. It was killing me not knowing how to proceed. The Nimbus is calming, not crazy. Now I'm excited to go get that floor and be ready to start the install asap. Thanks everybody for all the great advice.

"If anything I find my tastes are influenced negatively here, not in a bad way really, just differently. I love funky bohemian combined with traditional and modern but don't feel that love from most posters so sometimes I second guess myself. There are some canvas prints at Pier One I am crazy about yet they are cheap. Will I hate them because they look cheap? ($30 each btw) Will they make my decor seem too wild? Cheap? As an artist, most other artists abhor this kind of thing and usually are quite snobbish about having only originals in their house. They would not buy a cheap print from Pier One! So, can I over come this pressure and the pressure here (subtle however) and actually get what I love? I do not like the vast majority of art people choose for their home so I would never ask anyone here "what do you think of this print?" I'm rambling but I guess it's all about keeping myself true to me." Bumblebeez, I feel your pain, really I do. :) Something that would truly *speak* to me, would be a gliclee of Monet's Sunrise. It was a work that was derided by critics in its time and I had the opportunity to see it in the Monet Museum in Paris. It would have much more meaning to me, and to my husband, than something I bought off of Etsy or Ebay. At least you, as an artist, have the pedigree be able to get away with buying what you want (not that you should have to make excuses). It's the same way about furniture. If it's not heirloom or CL, there will always be detractors. I just try to suck it up and decorate to the best of my abilities.

June, it's not NY Day. The game isn't until the 7th or 8th, when they play for the National Football Championship.

Ok as a dyed in the wool, bleds orange TN Volfan..

(I was pulling for Flordia in the Sec game and will probably pull for Texas in the Championship game) I can't help it I was born that way. :)

I was tickled to death when Mark won it and then when I heard his acceptance speech I was brought to tears. I truly believe that he didn't think he had a chance to win against Tebow or McCoy..

So hats off to Mark...Congrats!!

Yea!! My SIL lives in Mobile and are HUGE BAMA fans!

littlebit-I'm afraid we will be on opposite sides New Years Eve! I'm a VA Tech alum. We play you (Tenn) in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl!

I knew Tebow wouldn't win because he already won once. In fact he only got 40+ votes for first place. I really thought Colt McCoy from Texas would get it.

Harry and I were both really surprised that BAMA hasn't had a winner before now. They've always seem to have pretty formidable teams.

I was for UF during the last game, but I'll be rootin' for Alabama come Jan. 1. My really, really favorite team is the FSU Seminoles but we stink lately. We are going to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville though on Jan. 17 (?) but only because they put FSU in it so Bobby could coach his last game there. He'll be coaching against WV--the school he left many years ago to go to FSU.

Hoping next season the ACC will rule!!

I saw a report on Mark Ingram & what a great thing for him! They said he's a sophomore but on schedule to graduate in a year! Remarkable for a football player!

Yes, I saw an interview with the dad (jailed for money laundering), expressing his pride and love for his son.

In spite of the family problems, Mark Ingram is a year ahead of himself in school and has achieved this incredibly high level of skill at playing football.
I loved how he got so emotional when they gave him the award.
