They don't get "swallowed up." They're wide enough to make a statement.
I don't know the other finishes you're using in your home, but if a compromise is necessary, could the B be found in the shiny chrome or steel?

Another vote for B. I don't care for the D at all in the photo, but I realize that photo of them is probably extra shiny.

CEFreeman - The swallowed up concern was for "A" on the bottom two cabinets. "B's" larger middle pulls are just "A" that I stretched out in Photoshop to see if it would help it look more balanced - and apparently it did! I haven't checked for B in chrome or steel, but that's a good idea. Thanks for your reply and kind compliment!

marti8a - Yes, D is not that shiny in real life. It's the same color as the other pull. I cropped it out of a brighter photo and plopped it into D, so the color looks off. Sorry about that. Thanks for your vote!

breezygirl - Thanks for your reply! (I created B based on the Golden Rule that you posted in another thread! It's 1/3 of the panel.) Yes, I'm Definitely worried about how I'm going to find B. =/ I need it to screw in from the back, and the only option I know of that comes in varying sizes is Restoration Hardware's Gilmore pull, and that mounts from the front. Sigh. If I can't find it...would my next best bet be A or C?

auchmedden - Thanks for your vote! I've always envisioned cup/bin pulls, so that's what I favor. Those drawers will just have tupperware in them, so they shouldn't be too heavy.

ZoeCat17 - You must be reading my mind! I'm chatting with an online sales rep right now and she suggested those as well. The online problem is - they are Incredibly expensive. There's no way DH would go for it. :( I told him I would stick to around $5 a pull. I could increase it a bit for the longer one perhaps, but not by 4x that amount. Sigh. Okay, I had to give the 6" Schaub a whirl. Maybe we could save up for it and live with tape pulls until then. The length is actually 6 5/8", and it's a little shorter than "A" with a 1" width (A is 1 1/8").

I don't think our middle 24" wide cabinets can handle the Schaub. The 1" difference from the mocked up version in "B" seems enormous. Am I right?

So - I think Option B, as balanced as it is proportionally, is not going to be possible to attain IRL. :( (How I wish we had real wood cabinets so I could just get PB or RH pulls that screw in from the front and be done with it!!)

The question becomes - Do I go with "A", "C," OR look for a different style pull entirely that comes in various sizes (it won't be streamlined like "A" though). :(

I don't think the smaller pulls in "A" get swallowed-up by the drawers. When looking at furniture pictures to decide what hardware to put on our family room cabinets, we realized that kitchen hardware seems to have been getting bigger and bigger lately. Traditionally pulls and knobs have often been smaller compared to the drawer/door size than we are use to seeing on GardenWeb kitchens.

For kitchen cabinets where the doors and drawers might be opened more often, I think it makes sense to have a bit wider pull so that it is more comfortable to use (i.e. all fingers fit in) so I'm not sorry that we went with a bit larger pulls for our kitchen, but as long as they are comfortable, I don't think they have to be huge to be aesthetically pleasing.

If you were going to go with a Schaub pull (they are pricy), I don't particularly like the long thin look of the one above. The Schaub 730 and 731 have a shape that's more similar to the pull that your DH prefers (D). Both 730 and 731 use screws on 3" centers, but the 731 is a wider pull (about 5") - the screws are on the bin pull arch which keeps them at 3" centers. We used it as a single pull on drawer sizes from 21" to 30". Our GC talked us into using two on our 36" drawers, but I think one would have been okay.

I prefer handles to knobs, so I'd choose C after B (B is my favorite, but it they don't exist, they don't exist).

cloud_swift - Thanks so much for your reply and photo! (Your kitchen is beautiful!) It's comforting to know that traditionally the pulls were smaller (and I'm glad you don't think the smaller one looks too small). I was looking through my file of favorite kitchen photos and did see some exactly like that (with small pulls everywhere, even on huge drawers). I understand your point about the comfort of a wider pull, though. I can just about fit four fingers in the little pull.

The Schaub is very pretty, but I talked it over with DH, and he doesn't want to spend that much. :( I found a few cheaper pulls that are similar looking, and "tested" one of them out below.

kirkhall - Thanks for your vote! After giving it Lots of thought (and endlessly looking at the photos and my inspiration photos), I think I'm going to eliminate the handle option. I think I'm more of a knob fan. =/

I can't recreate "B." (I reallly tried.) A pull in that size and shape that screws in from the back doesn't exist. :(

So, I can either:
A - Stick with the small pulls
E - Do a slightly longer pull in a curved shape (as suggested by cloud_swift), or
F - Use knobs for the larger drawers and pulls on the top only

For those of you who like "E" best, here are the afforable options that I found. Please feel free to share your favorite:

A is definitely my favorite among these 3. E isn't bad, but I prefer the slightly squared look on A. I would not go with knobs on lower drawers for ergonomic reasons.

i don't really get why you would use the same hardware, but change only the size. seems very wonky. i understand wanting to change it up a bit, but it just doesn't make much sense. if you want to do something different, i'd use a combination of knobs and pulls, rather than just change sizes.

kateskouros - Thanks for your feedback! I have always like the style of the "A" knobs best, but were worried that they were a bit too small for the larger bottom drawers. When this concern was echoed, I sort of panicked and started weighing out other potential options. I thought that the "B" mockup might solve the problem (and most seemed to love it), but I can't find that size and style pull (that screws in from the back) in real life. So, option "B" is no more, and I'm left with options A, E and F - they're shown a few posts above this one.

I like "A" .... more than B, C, D, E,...etc. I absolutely don't think the pulls are swallowed up..... I don't think any of your drawers are big enough to do any swallowing. :)

I see perfect sense in using the same hardware, just in different sizes. I have tiny, tiny hinges on a couple of inset cabinet doors. I was lucky to find these antique-y hinges in a 4" size for the 42" cabs I have. I love the consistency!

Keep in mind that if you really wanted to save for the longer pulls, you could pick up something inexpensive that had the same hole spread and do them a few at a time.

I do things like that.

I liked A from the beginning, my thoughts expressed exactly by Palimpsest, and feel it's still the best of what you've shown.

I agree with all As.

I like A or E - I think either looks good. You could decide based on which ones feel best to you rather than on looks.

I don't like the mix of pulls on the smaller drawers and knobs on the bigger ones.

I also prefer A...but I think it's partly because i love the exposed screw look. I know those screws are just 'pretend' but I still think that look is really nice with your doors/drawers.

We have the Top Knobs bin pulls and bar pulls, and we love them. I vote for C -- the original C -- but it sounds like that option has already been discarded.

I will tell you that we LOVE the quality of the Top Knobs hardware, and were very impressed by the one small service issue I had to contact them on (the screw threads on one handle got stripped), they just sent out a whole new handle, no questions/proof/documentation asked. Great company!!

It is a very pretty look, and I wanted to give it a chance (hence the mockup), but it just didn't feel right for me. So glad you love your Top Knob hardware (and even their customer service)! I am thoroughly impressed with our Top Knobs sample too. The quality is by far the best of all of the samples that we have. I couldn't find your Somerset pulls. What is the model #?

Our kitchen should be photo ready this weekend, so I'll take some more photos for you from different angles. While I would Love to get rid of our soffit, we don't have the budget to move the plumbing and electric, so it's staying for now. Have you looked at photos of kitchens with soffits vs kitchens without them? Or even a computer rendering of your kitchen with and without soffits (that would be best) - this way you could decide if the expense is worth it for you. Best wishes!
