I need help consolidating my kitchen

My apartment kitchen is so small. I've already gotten rid of my meat slicer, food processor, Kitchen Aid mixer, blender, deep fat fryer and a bunch of baking dishes and pots and pans.

I need to get rid of a bunch of duplicate untinsels I don't need.

What little gadgets do you have in your kitchen that do "double duty"?

A very old electric pressure cooker, that I use to "fry" fish in.

My Mother never had a potato peeler, electric can opener, or anything other than knifes, forks and spoons. I guess I took after my Mother.

I don't like anything on the kitchen counter either, unless it is being used. And I have a larger kitchen than the average kitchen.

Hi Angelaid...it is a problem. We moved from a pretty good size house to a small APT three years ago. It has been an adustment. I did down-size before the move. One thing I do is, inside of cabinet doors, I use 3M hooks to hang asst pans, strainer (I use as both as a strainer & collender) and asst utinsils. I do find I miss some of the kitchen things I gave away, but have adjusted. Good luck to you.

I love what you've done so far! I agree that it just needs some warmth and color. We put Coretec LVP in our basement and are happy with it. I really love the Acacia pattern. It is the one I wanted, but we went with something with more greys in it (I was outvoted). But I've always loved the medium colors. Because you have marble on the countertop, I'd let that shine and use a solid colour in the backsplash. You don't want to be competing or too matchy matchy in my opinion. Let each surface be it's own thing and not blend into each other. The classic option would be the white. It won't ever look dated and you'll never need to switch it out. I'd go with the medium sized option in the classic offset horizontal pattern. I think the biggest size might make the space look smaller, or a bit messy because you'd need to trim them so much, especially to fit under the window. You could also do a herringbone pattern with the smaller size if you wanted a little extra pizzazz.

long term I think different wall color would be wise. if you are not occupying this yet I would paint the walls before getting in there. . If its a rental or you are getting ready to sell I suppose it doesn't matter. the gray is dark enough to make the space a lot less desirable than if you had simply white or near white walls. simple hardware. dont overthink it. pulling the strip and adding a backsplash and undercab task lighting would assist with "pulling it all together " as you say. that whole far wall backsplash zone could use a nice tile to distract from the fridge and oven stack right in the middle of everything. when you get to it..beautiful or interesting stools in the foreground there will help things along. how many stools were you thinking ?? pretty flooring / but why the dreary gray walls?

thinkdesignlive Thank you. The floor in the room adjacent to the kitchen is birch wood. I don't have much choice in terms of the floor than to put tiles. The tile will be going in the kitchen, the entrance, the hallway, the kitchen table area and the mudroom. The floor needs to be redone in that our tiles are cracking. The trim all over the home is white. So far I have picked the Olympia Glam series Tortora a neutral, good-for-traffic area tile. ( see picture above ) The wood of the kitchen cabinets is in good shape, but some doors need to be refreshed. The wood in some doors is getting bare due to water damage or lack of varnish in some areas. Luckily, I found someone willing to do a trial in my powder room cabinet to see what it would look like and whether he could refresh the cabinets. I would love to redo a full kitchen however I was quoted $ 70000 just for the cabinets if we still want wood. I agree with you that I am all over the place. I will follow your suggestion and create a new inspiration board. Thank you for this suggestion.

I sure wish I'd been around when you unloaded that Kitchen Aid.

I also have hooks on the inside the cabinet for hanging strainer and colander...quite handy.

I also bought 3 small individual wire racks and mounted them on the inside of a lower cabinet door. They hold 26 (I just counted them) bottles of spices, yet it only takes away about 3-4 inches of space from the lowest shelf. I also have a wire rack thing that holds 3 boxes of plastic wrap/aluminum foil/waxpaper etc.

Another wire rack for a dish towel is on the inside of a cabinet door.

BF has limited kitchen storage but has a nice closet with shelving at the end of a hall. He/I put extra little used items, or stocked canned goods there and call it his 'pantry'.
