I need camera help please.

I got a Kodak C813 digital camera for Christmas.

It works great. Took a couple of dozen pics so far.

I installed the EasyShare software.

I hooked up the USB cable. And nothing.

I can't get the software to open.

I removed and reinstalled the software.

The Kodak website recommended downloading the latest version.

But still, nothing.

How can I get the pictures out of my

camera and into my computer.

Windows XP Home Edition.

Can you try it the other way Pooh? Plug your camera in, goto my computer/find the camera file folders and copy to a new folder on c drive? I didn't even load the software with my canon I just do it this way and it's tons faster ;0). Oh and I use Paint Shop Pro to edit my pictures with.

I'm sure somebody else here knows how that program works, hopefully you'll get better help in a bit. ;0)

Are you turning the camera on? I had a Kodak camera years ago and as soon as I turned the camera on, the software opened up.

If you're already doing that, I dont have any advice for you. :-( Good Luck!!

Thanks, folks, for the assistance. I took the camera to Walmart photo dept., and found that the card was damaged - they replaced the card and the camera is working perfectly.

Hi Linda, I'm not sure I'm going to be much help, but here goes. The 2240 x 1493 is an appropriate size for images coming out of your camera. You wouldn't want to change them to 640 x 480 in the camera because you wouldn't be able to print them at that resolution. So the question becomes whether or not Photobucket automatically resizes them upon uploading. I wasn't aware that they ever did this, but they must have if you remember uploading without resizing. I keep a folder on my desktop of resized photos for emailing and uploading to Photobucket and Flickr. I've never tried to upload a full-size file. However, it's easy to resize photos that are already on Photobucket. Just click on Edit (right above the image), then Resize, and follow the instructions. There's a preset 640 x 480 that you can use if you like. Hope this helps. Susan

If in fact the only purpose this camera will serve is to take photos for eBay selling, you don't need to shell out money for a high-powered zoom or lots of megapixels. You won't make use of either of these features. Since you want to take closeups, the feature you should look for is good macro capability. I don't know how close you want to get, but if you need to enlarge detail you might want to consider adding a closeup lens. I took this photo of the back of a teaspoon using a Panasonic camera with a Raynox closeup lens.

Hi there Carla. When I saw this topic, I couldn't believe how up my alley this question was. For the last five years, I've been working in selling cameras while going to school. Our store stresses superior product knowledge and I pride myself in keeping up to date on the camera market. Basically, I'm familiar with about 90% of the non-professional cameras on the market. Anyways, sorry for tooting my own horn there. The Yashica T4 is an excellent camera (I own one!). Lore hit the nail on the head in that it's all in the Zeiss lens. The T4 Super Date should run you around $200, about half of it's value being in the lens. The only other P/S camera that might come close to it is the Olympus Stylus Epic (make sure it's the one with NO zoom, and an f/2.8 lens). We did a side by side comparison of the two when the Olympus first came out and we couldn't really tell the difference. You may also want to consider upping your price range to get yourself an SLR camera. While spending more money doesn't GUARANTEE you better pictures, SLRs do tend to do a better job than P/S's. Lastly, Consumer Reports is probably one of the worst places to do research on cameras (though they did rate the T4 #1 for like 4 years straight). The problem is that they rate a small sampling of the cameras on the market and definately miss out on many models, both good and bad. Second, they rate cameras every 2-3 years, while in those off years, just reprint an old report with the updated models and just assuming that the new models are EXACTLY like the old ones. Good places to look are in photo magazines, though they don't "rate" as much as they just list them all and describe them. You kinda have to dig to find the actual tests they do. I'll try to dig up some URLs for you. I hope that helped for now... :)

Pooh, just remove your memory card and plug it into a card reader. They are cheap and you can buy one specific to you card or buy one that will read different kinds of cards.

I can't find the camera in Windows Explorer/My Computer.
I am turning the camera on after plugging it in.

The software is EasyShare version 6.40.53.95

I use Windows XP too, and you should hear a sound when the computer recognizes the usb cable and a little script bubble pops up to tell you that you have something new plugged in. Maybe and I'm just guessing here, the cable is messed up, have you got another usb cable? Your computer should see your camera when you go into "My Computer" and it should tell you that your camera is a Kodak.

Pooh, do you not see the usb camera drive when you click on "my computer"? You should. If not, maybe your usb port is bad? It should be listed as your E drive.

Have you rebooted your machine since you installed the software?

I rebooted my computer.
When I plug the cable in and turn it on
I hear the Be-Boop sound and again when I turn it off.
No dialog bubbles pop up in the system tray
like when I plug in other USB stuff.
And I don't see a listing in My Computer
when it is plugged in and turned on.
And I still can't open the software.

I'm going to take another wild guess here Pooh, did you by chance load the software with your antivirus program running? Your antivirus may have messed the program up, you might try uninstalling it turning your av program off and re-installing easyshare. With you not able to open the program at all I think something screwy happened to it. Some of the programs you get now are really funny about antivirus programs too. Hope that helps.

I un-installed the software.
While it was uninstalled I hooked up the camera
to see what would happen without the software.
I didn't really want the software and now I
found out that XP will do the transfer with no problems.
I now have all the pictures on my computer
and I don't have another piece of un-needed software.
