I have wicker hampers in each bedroom, and one in each bathroom.

No hamper here. They just take up space, and I've always hated the smell you get when you open a closed hamper--GAG. (but I grew up in a house with a construction worker father, and a very active brother--so maybe others don't have that same mental block with hampers?)

I just keep a wash basket in the bottom of my closet. When it's full, I wash. Easier and saves work. I don't have to transfer clothes from the hamper to the wash basket on wash day, it's easily accessible, doesn't take up space better used for other things in my room (I have large walk-in closets, but small rooms).

Anything that saves me even a little work is important to me.

I also fold and separate the wash as it comes out of the dryer--rather than just dumping it in the wash basket and taking it somewhere else to fold and sort (as my mom did). I have a table right next to my dryer to facilitate that.

And all that being said, I've got a load in the washer that needs to be moved over to the dryer....

I have one hamper for when the kids come home...it is a collapsing hamper and folds flat for when they aren't here...I stand it up in the back of a closet for storage...we each have a laundry basket in our closets...no hampers

No hamper...I use a laundry basket....in the closet too...I have one of the folding hampers that we took on a cruise with us..but I don't use it...I keep it in the guest room closet.

I have two hampers. One in the garage (which is where the laundry room is). It is an old rubbermaid one and is the one where DH puts his work clothes.

The other one is in the master bedroom and is a pretty wicker one with a cotton liner than can be removed to be washed. The lid is attached by leather straps. I found it at Ross.

I have 2 hampers a big wicker one in our bedroom....and a wood kind that this bag hangs off of in the bathroom...I just carry both to the laundry room. The kids have baskets in their rooms that they are responsible to carry to the laundry room if they don't their clothes don't get clean! Stacy

THere are hampers in my two daughters rooms, for clothes only-no wet towels allowed Towels remain in the bathroom and I try to do a load every day!

I use the 3 bag laundry sorters. Started using them when the kids were little and have used them ever since. I HATE to sort laundry!

I do not use hampers either. I have 2 rubbermaid baskets in the laundry room. A white one for whites/verylight and a navy one for darks. The kids are really good about serparating them. Now if i could only get them to turn their socks and shirts the right way. Not inside out.

I have a rubbermaid hamper in the master bathroom. It's got a lot of holes/vents in it and I've never gotten a smell from it, ever. But I don't like it. I want a nice one but cannot find one I like.

2 laundry baskets in the closet. I do laundry fairly frequently, hate to see it pile up!
When kids were home they did their own laundry and did have hampers in their rooms.

I have a hamper in the utility room, and when it's full I sort and wash. Lately it has been piled high... and I am due to wash today. :)

My daughter has two of those sort laundry containers in her closet. She sorts EVERYTHING. and hauls it to the utility room.

I prefer everyone to dump their laundry there. :)

Flamey, mine doesn't even have a lid anymore. You know, you can pile more stuff without a lid. :)

I have a vintage hamper that I bought at a flea market, I painted it and added some rub-on dragonflys. I like shabby-chic stuff so this is perfect, the cats have helped make it even more shabby! Darn Winston! :-)

I bought this banana leaf hamper for dh. It's the biggest one I could find that looks attractive and doesn't clash with our furniture. I'm thinking about going back and getting a second one for me. Right now, I'm just using a laundry basket.

I keep the canvas 3 partitioned sorter in the laundry room. Main Man uses his closet floor for dirty laundry. I never understood that. It makes the clean clothes smell like dirty socks.

I also have a built in hamper in my bath that I put blankets and linens in.

No hamper here. We just toss the stuff on the floor in the bathroom and one of us takes it to the utility room. It's usually in the mornings. Hate that smell of a hamper. Used to live in a house that had a built in one and if you left damp stuff too long it was rank! The floor method works for us! Sometimes there's a laundry basket in there, but usually it's the floor! I do laundry every day.

No hampers here either, unless I count the basket in the laundry closet next to the washer. I've thought about getting a tall slender hamper to put in the hall where all the bedrooms are. We tend to plop all our clothes in that one spot in the hall and someone picks them up on the way to the washer a couple times a day. Dh has his own washer in the basement thank goodness. Greasy, oily, or soiled clothes,,,those are left by the washer to do within a day.

With the activities the kids are in and a dh that has farmer dirty clothes I wash at least two to three loads of laundry a day. Lots of throw rugs and sheets go to the wash area right away.

We have a Rubbermaid in the bath area for towels. DH has a large tall round plastic one in the corner of the bedroom. I have a deep wire drawer under my built in drawers in the walk-in closet for my clothes. I use a small wastebasket with a swing top for undies.

We have 3 lined wicker baskets, one for darks, one for lights, and one for delicates. We have a large walk-in closet that's at the entrance to our master bath and we keep them in there.
And I also fold and sort my laundry as it comes out of the dryer.

I have the same one Leslie has. The front of mine looks like beadboard. I really like it--doesn't look like a hamper. I need a new one--DH used ours for a hamper and now the lid just sits on top. Got mine at Target but I've looked and can't find them there now.

Mine is a wicker hamper that I keep in the hallway. I wonder why I keep it there? There's only DH and me in the house, so it's not like that's a central location for multiple people. Maybe I'll move it into the bedroom today and get it out of the hallway.

Anyway, it does have a lid and Midnight the kitty used to love to sit on top of it so she could watch everyone come up the stairs. But she passed on a year ago and now no one sits on my hamper.

I have a tall Rubbermaid one in the bathroom closet. I would like to have a different color (this is a rose pink) but can't find them like this one anymore! Mine is square and all the ones I 've seen now are more round and sure don't look like they'd hold as much as this one does.

I've always used a hamper, I have just one in the bathroom closet(rubbermaid I think, small & light green). Then 3 in laudry room for sorting.

I have a huge wicker thing that I bought in TJ a long time ago... the lid came apart, but the body is still in great shape. I keep it in the closet, don't like to have it out.

There's a fabric hamper in Nick's room (you can wash the entire thing, well besides the wood frame) and I have a wicker one that I use in the bathroom. It does smell like dirty clothes if you open it up but I thought that was part of the point of using a hamper - containing the stink. Not a problem for some people I'm sure but I work out 5 times a week and those clothes don't smell pretty when I'm done. I wouldn't want that smell in my closet.

I bought DH a collapsible bag for his clothes but he prefers the piling-on-the-floor-right-next-to-the-bag method.

I have one in our bathroom...one in the boys bath...couldn't do without a hamper...I've been washing for THREE frickin days and finally can see the bottom of the laundry room floor...DS bought EVERYTHING he owned home from college...and between the two of us we've got everything in this house WASHED, including blankets and throws!

I prefer wicker hampers to rubbermaid (or any other plastic) because wicker hampers have ventilation...the idea leaving anything with the slightest dampness into a closed plastic container just turns me off.

No hampers. No having to bend over while digging into that dark smelly chamber. We have laundry baskets in our closets...easy to cart the baskets to the laundry room.

I use laundry baskets..or usually it's in a pile at the end of the hall or bits down the hall(boys can't seem to find the basket!) If company comes..the pile goes into my oldest sons room! LOL
I do a load of laundry every day! So unless the boys clean their room...I'm pretty much on top of it.

I have a rubbermaid hamper in the bathroom and it has lots of ventilation holes.It's blue and matches my rugs,etc.I've never had it smell and have used it for years.We don't put anything wet in it.

I also have one like Lydias,sans the dragonflies.I keep that in my bedroom ,but it hold clean clothes that i don't wear,jeans that are a tad too tight,but i hope to get back in them,that sort of thing.

There's just dh and i here and we do laundry at least twice a week.

Nino, I don't really remember where I got it for sure. Probably/maybe Bed Bath and Beyond. I really like it too. It doesn't hold odors either, but then it's just me here.

The only hamper I have is a built in in the master bath. It has a little door over a big door so that you can be lazy and just drop the dirty laundry down through the little door. I use laundry baskets, and since I've discovered the little square ones at the dollar store I use those instead of the long narrow ones. But I don't like to do laundry, it's the whole washing, drying, folding and putting away thing I think ;0) Thank you for asking Flamey now I feel guilty that I'm not messing with the laundry.......sigh.

DH and I each have our own laundry basket in the closet. I do laundry 1-2 times a week and don't have a need for a hamper with a lid. I got a hamper for our baby's room, but it hasn't come in yet.

Hmmm, maybe it was Target now that Patti mentions that. The front does have slight lines/grooves in it, so it isn't flat. It's also very sturdy.

Like MaryAnn, we have an old rubbermaid plastic basket that fits inside our linen cabinet in the master bedroom. I'm desperate to replace the basket, both handles have been taped and McCloud even put a dowel in one side to complete the hand hold that was busted. It's sad. BUT, I cannot find one that fits inside the cabinet now. They are all too large so we just keep patching the old laundry basket.

I have two vintage hampers....one is an old Tupperware one with a date of 1958 on it and one that is wicker given to us by a friend who got it for a wedding present in the '50's.
We also have a cloth fold up kind DS had when he was away at college....he graduated in 1987..
We only use two.....DH has stored some of his "stuff" in the wicker one.

I have a laundry basket in each closet. We do have a laundry chute, but I have never used it as that. Instead, I use the cupboard that the chute empties into as a cupboard for laundry stuff.

My parents' home had a nice large laundry chute in the upstairs bathroom, and we used it all the time. But our chute is in the upstairs hall--not a very useful location.

I Love my hamper. It's a tall white plastic one with 2 wheels and a pull-handle. I've long since misplaced the lid (you know, it's too hard for DH to lift the lid AND put his dirty clothes inside) but it's great for me because I can't bend and lift like I used to. Just load, tip, and pull to the laundry room! Can't remember where I bought it -- maybe Westlakes Hardware or Target . . . .

Yup, wicker here also. Kept in the hallway cupboard with the washing supplies. I put a dryer sheet in the bottom of the basket, which keeps the hamper fresh smelling

Well....let's see.I have a laundry basket under the counter in DS and DGD's bathroom,then there's the floor in front of the washer in the laundry room and the garden tub in my bathroom,which I have never used in the 9 years I have owned this house.The tub is for DH's and my laundry only and I do only our laundry.When there's enough for a load I do it so I only do a couple of loads every couple of days.DGD and DS do their own.My kids were all doing their own laundry by the time they were 12.I have several rubbermaid hampers but they seem to collect out of season stuff and even bags of dog food!LOL For some reason the dirty clothes never seemed to make it to the inside of the hamper.
Ninos-One reason I started making my kids do their own laundry was because I couldn't get them to turn their socks (especially the boys) right side out! Told them if they couldn't turn their clothes right side out before putting them in the laundry room,they could start doing their own,and they did!LOL For some reason trying to turn stinky, stiff as a board socks right side out just doesn't set well with me!It was time they learned to do laundry anyway.LOL

We have 3 laundry baskets in our master closet.
One is mine, two are for DH.
He uses one of them for dirty clothes and the other for clean clothes that he needs to iron.
His two never get full.

My son has a hamper in his room. He still throws most of his dirty clothes on the floor.

This sounds unbelievable but it's true. I got a brown wicker hamper with a padded brown lid from a friend when I got married 40 yrs. ago. I'm still using it & it's fine, except for where Buddy, our cockatiel, chewed the wicker in the back a little. It's in our bedroom & very handy. Couldn't imagine not having one. Each of my kids had their own plastic ones when they were home.

The only kind I like are the mesh "pop up" style of hamper. I even PACK a slightly smaller version in my suitcase for when we travel. They air-dry any damp items and can be dragged to and from the laundry area quite easily. Never liked wicker........

OK, so it sounds like about half of us have hampers and the other half use a laundry basket to hold their soiled clothes. Seems to me, that's about the same thing as using a hamper. Do you use the laundry basket to haul the clean clothes back to the bedrooms, too?

We just carry armloads of clothes to the laundry, our hamper rarely leaves the bathroom. And then we carry armloads of clean stuff back to the bedroom. And our hamper is so ventilated, it's about as much air holes as it is solid, so it's not stinky at all. Of course, when we do something that gets us really dirty, we just undress in the laundry room and wash the filthy stuff immediately. (Like cutting wood, that's messy work.)
