Wii Game Recs Please :-)

We are giving the girls (ages 9 and 14) a Wii for Christmas. I have no idea what games to get them. IÂm toying with the idea of giving each girl an IOU for the game of their choice Â but then they would not be able to play the Wii until we make those purchases.

Are there any games that are sure winners???

What about Mario Brothers? They had it on display at Walmart and it was pretty neat to play.

We are getting our kids a Blockbuster game pass, where you can have out 2 games at a time.

Read the customer reviews at Amazon. When I bought video games in the past I always went by the ratings. If 50 peeps say it is good - it probably is! :-) Dealtime.com is a good place to read reviews and ratings too.

My DH and I are seniors also and we got our wii fit plus for Christmas. We really love it! I think you can actually try it at places like Walmart and Best Buy. At first I thought I wouldn't like the 'cartoon' like mii people, but it sort of makes it more fun. There is yoga, strength, aerobics, balance, and some really silly but fun things to do. You can flap your arms like a chicken and land on different posts until you land on a ship. Yes, it's silly but you are moving your arms. Another game is step aerobics with a line of other mii people. The Hoola Hoop is fun and works your waist. There is jogging through the little mii town. A punching bag game to work your arms. There is a bicycle exercise (you step as if you are on a bicycle).My favorite game is the Obstacle Course that has you running, jumping and dodging objects. And oh so much more. You can do a mix of whatever you feel like doing. I do about 30 minutes nearly every day. You will need wii fit plus, the console to play it, and a balance board. It is a fixed price of about $300, but if you shop around you may find a store offering a bonus of a gift card or something extra. It is definately a good investment. And if you have children or grandkids over, they can do the exercises also because they are so much fun. You can go to nintendo wii online and see real people including us 'more mature people' doing the exercises. Go for it! Linda Leaf

We took all the game disks out of the cases and put them into a binder (it has sleeves/pages with slots for disks), which takes up MUCH less space than the cases. We keep the cases themselves in a box in the basement, just in case we need them later. I attempt to keep the controllers in a basket on the shelf under the TV, but they usually just end up on the floor. The guitars for Guitar Hero are in a tall basket in the corner. Fortunately all of this is in our basement playroom, so when it's a mess it doesn't bother me too much.

Gardenwebber, that is SUCH a good point about "entertaining in their rooms". Here's a thought about your floorplan: have the kids take the back two bedrooms. Move your son to the smaller bedroom, the girls in the room with the closet. Take that wall that you guys put up and turn it into the bunk beds in separate rooms. This will give you a lot more useable floor space. Swing your youngest daughter's bed against the far wall and you will maximize the floor space there. Your son can have the lower bunk bed in his own room next door. That leaves the bedroom directly across from yours as a playroom. That also makes your own bedroom further away from the kids beds. The bunk beds are just drywalled with the mattress only on them. We have always had a rule that our kids cannot have a computer, video games or tv in their bedroom until they are 18. I do not want that stuff cluttering my downstairs living room. An upstairs space for this is the best solution. We built our current home knowing that we were going to have teens in them someday and to give them space separate from ours. Think about this solution. My husband would be happy to talk you and your husband thru the details if it is something you would be interested in. P.S. my 17y.o.'s boyfriend is coming for christmas for 17 days and there is no way in hell that she will be "entertaining" him in her bedroom!!!!!!!!!!!! Sherry

We bought it a few months ago. Its just my husband and me at home, but we have a great time with it. The whole family played when we had our Christmas on Sat. I have found quite a few different games on Amazon.com that the stores don't have.

My grandkids - ages 11, 9, 7, and 5 all love Boogie. Also, the game comes with Wii Sports and we all enjoy the bowling, tennis, etc. a lot. So there ARE games in the package for them to play.

Mario Galaxy is a hot game for Christmas and it is FUN. We just rented it over Thanksgiving. Super Mario Party 8 is also a lot of fun and they can compete against each other or together as a team against the computer. I'm getting my daughter Hannah Montana and High School Musical for Christmas and also Mario Olympics. I may have to go out and get Galaxy because I miss playing it! We also have Dance Dance Revolution but that is pretty pricey once you throw the other dance pad in but it's a lot of fun AND exercise... I know I'm sweating after a few dances. Wii Play is also a lot of fun and you get the extra remote with it. You need nunchucks with a lot of games so make sure to pick those up too... they aren't really an accessory since they are needed so often--it's such a rip off how they sell them seperately. Love the Wii!! ;-)

I just wish I could find the WII, looked all over town last weekend, all are sold out. Sure hope they get some in before Christmas, my grandsons want one for Christmas.

They played WII with their cousins back in the summer and they loved the bowling game.

Is there one with a guitar? My DGK's want that one. Carley pointed it out to me at Wally World the other day, Black Friday to be exact. I saw lots of guitars but only 1 game left. I couldn't get it because she was with me. So, I'll have to look elsewhere.

My DS only has a couple of games but he really likes Rayman Raving Rabbids. He wants the Mario Galaxy game for Christmas and Rayman Raving Rabbids 2.

Leslie, if they don't have a guitar already, you'll have to get the guitar/game combo. Our's for Playstation2 was around $80.

The guitar was around $80.00? Or the combo? I've been checking at Amazon. and they're priced at $50.00 for the PS 2 game only. The guitar is another $40.00-$50.00. Are all guitars interchangeable with all the games? I'll spring for the game, and mom can get the guitar. With 10 GKD's and $50.00 each, it adds up.

I've only played wii a couple times, but get the guitar hero for sure, it's soooo fun, also the wii sports. I love the tennis and bowling on the wii sports game.

The combo was $80-the guitar with the game. And that was for the Ps2. There are several versions of the game available, we have the 80's game and one other, and all the games (for the PS2) are compatible with the guitar.

My DS also has the Wii Sports game and really likes it. For Christmas I bought him an accessory kit for it that has a tennis racket and baseball bat that attach to the controller. Looks like it will be a fun addition.

Kathy_tx Â I set my FireFox to open with 2 tabs Â one for Amaxon Wii and one for CostCo Wii. This means that every time I open my browser (I do this several times a day), I am checking for availability of these units. It didnÂt take me long to snag one from Amazon for $249 (no tax, free shipping).

There is also a place online that constantly checks availability for the Wii from several venders and sends you an e-mail Alert when it is available. You have to be pretty quick as they sell out fast. Here is the link for NowInStock Wii
