Anyone Use Wii for Exercise?

DH and I are Seniors. Considering buying Wii for exercise. Anyone here have and USE this? Exactly which components would we need and what do they cost, please?

My DH and I are seniors also and we got our wii fit plus for Christmas. We really love it! I think you can actually try it at places like Walmart and Best Buy. At first I thought I wouldn't like the 'cartoon' like mii people, but it sort of makes it more fun. There is yoga, strength, aerobics, balance, and some really silly but fun things to do. You can flap your arms like a chicken and land on different posts until you land on a ship. Yes, it's silly but you are moving your arms. Another game is step aerobics with a line of other mii people. The Hoola Hoop is fun and works your waist. There is jogging through the little mii town. A punching bag game to work your arms. There is a bicycle exercise (you step as if you are on a bicycle).My favorite game is the Obstacle Course that has you running, jumping and dodging objects. And oh so much more. You can do a mix of whatever you feel like doing. I do about 30 minutes nearly every day. You will need wii fit plus, the console to play it, and a balance board. It is a fixed price of about $300, but if you shop around you may find a store offering a bonus of a gift card or something extra. It is definately a good investment. And if you have children or grandkids over, they can do the exercises also because they are so much fun. You can go to nintendo wii online and see real people including us 'more mature people' doing the exercises. Go for it!

I love my Wii, I use it everyday there are so many great excercise for the Wii that you never get bored. The wii actually got me back into excercieing and helped me love close to 50 pds

:) as an old deadhead... Summer Tour was the best shape I've ever been in, between the vegitarian cooking and 3 hours of dancing 4 nights a week ! and I can't dance, have three left feet and an inner ear tht's never sure which way's up... but over the years, I've picked up a style that's taken bits of yoga, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Kempo, and whatnot (never taken formal classes, but the guys are always trying to show me SOMETHING they just learned from their own teachers) and tribal dances, and it's the perfect break for me from biking, which is a very linear kind of meditation. I don't need videos to dance...my TV isn't big enough to encourage working out in front of it, really... but any live concert recording carry that same feel- and it doesn't matter what kind of music it is- I dance just as well to Porgy and Bess as I do to the Winterlands concert. but- I do own one dance workout tape, have had it for 10 years, and love it. it's called 'world beat workout' and it's where I picked up what few formal 'tribal' steps I know from.

I know two people who have Wii Fit. Both were fairly enthusiastic when they first got it several months ago. I haven't heard a word about it from either of them lately. I think it's just like any other piece of exercise equipment. If you've really really made up your mind to get fit, you'll use it. Only you know if you're really going to use it often enough to justify its existence in your home. I bought a treadmill a few years back and used it off and on. Not a lot but it was tucked away in an otherwise unused bedroom. In April I finally got the bug and started using it. I walk every day unless there is a compelling reason why I can't. Out of town for example. I started slow but I'm up to 31 minutes at 3.1 mph daily, 40 minutes on weekends. I intend to build up to more. And it's already made a difference in my weight. (I have a long way to go.) I have a TV and dvd player in that room and watching a movie (in installments) or other entertainment makes a huge difference to me in making the time go by faster. I'm not sure a Wii would work for me for that exact reason. I like to have something to take my mind off what I'm doing instead of being forced to concentrate on it.

Another thing, another reason why DS7 will not be visiting his adult half-brother and his family any time again soon is how THEY treat their own kids in his presence. Although my son is not really an only child because he has two 1/2 sibs, albeit adults, he's being raised like an only. DH and I have completely different parenting approaches than SS30. DS has reported extreme things from his visits like putting expensive video games in the toilet to make a point to SGS9, taking away all of SGS9's toys, yelling at him in adult terms (which I've seen myself, no profanity but still really harsh), completely different treatment for SGS3 than SGS9 and so on. DS7 likes both of his nephew, yes SGS9 is my son's nephew as is SGS3 but even at his tender age, doesn't like how SGS9 is treated. He knows that SGS9 has problems and gets in to a lot of trouble while SS30 and GF treat SGS3 a lot better. Really, none of this is my concern as I am very detached from that whole crew at this point. But, it's such a lousy example to my son and DH could/should have some influence with it in my opinion. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if SGS9 becomes SGS15 in some kind of gang leadership position. This is LA you know? He has all of the makings in his thinking, the critical parents, the favored younger child, the disinterested grandparents and so on. He does come from an intact bio family even though they are not married, they've been together almost 10 years consistently. DS7 feels sorry for SGS9, his nephew but likes him. SGS9 is jealous of DS7, his uncle, but likes him. They both like each other and mostly get along. It would be nice if they could be close in a healthy way but we'll have to see how it all plays out.

funny joyful... i also meant to say that i do have alot of exercise DVD's & VHS tapes and a lifestyle trainer. i used them in spurts never getting into a habit like i should. i still use a yoga set on VHS actually. w/ a wii & fit board, exercise is interactive w/ a personal trainer, it critiques your form, effort and consistency w/ exercise. you can set the level you want and change that ea day if you want. on EA workouts, it adds reps and changes exercises as you progress based on how easily or fast you do the exercises. you also step up to higher and higher levels of resistance bands adding use-ability over time. the only draw back i have found using it for 6 mo now is changing equipment via holding the numchuk/remote & using the resistance bands. i did invest in a wireless numchuk and it has greatly improved my enjoyment...no wires to get smacked w/ lol and communication w/ the numchuk and console is improved alot. good luck i hope you get it and find you like it. i NEVER thought i would love working out again, i used to be in top shape until i was 30 lol due to sports and workouts. but now i do ~ liz

I guess I should report back that we did buy the Wii Fit Plus and have each been using it almost every day for 20 - 30 minutes in the mornings. Now that the weather is nicer outside -- not too hot; not too cold -- we're using it less.

I agree with Linda. Her favorites are mine, too. My DH also likes the 'Table Tennis', 'Frisbee' and 'Basketball'. Our DGS, age 6, loves to play the 'Swordfight' and '100 Pin Bowling' games. (He has X-Box at home and sometimes plays those games in competition with his cousin in SLC. Amazing, huh?))

Glad to read that Beaw likes her Wii. I don't need to lose weight; need to gain *muscle*!

I have to thank this forum -- my 'go-to' place for real life information. We might not have bought this system without feedback here.
