My DH and I are seniors also and we got our wii fit plus for Christmas. We really love it! I think you can actually try it at places like Walmart and Best Buy. At first I thought I wouldn't like the 'cartoon' like mii people, but it sort of makes it more fun. There is yoga, strength, aerobics, balance, and some really silly but fun things to do. You can flap your arms like a chicken and land on different posts until you land on a ship. Yes, it's silly but you are moving your arms. Another game is step aerobics with a line of other mii people. The Hoola Hoop is fun and works your waist. There is jogging through the little mii town. A punching bag game to work your arms. There is a bicycle exercise (you step as if you are on a bicycle). My favorite game is the Obstacle Course that has you running, jumping and dodging objects. And oh so much more. You can do a mix of whatever you feel like doing. I do about 30 minutes nearly every day. You will need wii fit plus, the console to play it, and a balance board. It is a fixed price of about $300, but if you shop around you may find a store offering a bonus of a gift card or something extra. It is definately a good investment. And if you have children or grandkids over, they can do the exercises also because they are so much fun. You can go to nintendo wii online and see real people including us 'more mature people' doing the exercises. Go for it!

Another consideration would be to purchase a high density foam roller, they come in many sizes but if you get a 36" x 6" you can use it all over. Physical therapists use them for aligning the spine, neck stretches and a verity of other uses. I just ordered one and plan on using it for myofacia /fibromyalgia/arthritis pain. It most likely will not be 100% as affective as deep tissue massage but will hopefully come close. There are a few good books out there on this subject along with instructions and trigger points but I havenÂt weeded through them all yet. After years of studying Pilates, ball, yoga, and traditional weight training, this is new to me. However, after having three deep tissue massages lately and discovering how amazing the results were for me I can not wait to learn a way I can help myself. IÂm not kidding after three deep tissue massages I felt like someone had pulled me out of a little box and I could perform exercises at a much higher level, my concentration and energy was also greatly improved. Reading about deep tissue massage can be very interesting it also supposedly releases stored toxins.

Does anyone use dancing as a form of exercise?

:) as an old deadhead... Summer Tour was the best shape I've ever been in, between the vegitarian cooking and 3 hours of dancing 4 nights a week ! and I can't dance, have three left feet and an inner ear tht's never sure which way's up... but over the years, I've picked up a style that's taken bits of yoga, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Kempo, and whatnot (never taken formal classes, but the guys are always trying to show me SOMETHING they just learned from their own teachers) and tribal dances, and it's the perfect break for me from biking, which is a very linear kind of meditation. I don't need videos to dance...my TV isn't big enough to encourage working out in front of it, really... but any live concert recording carry that same feel- and it doesn't matter what kind of music it is- I dance just as well to Porgy and Bess as I do to the Winterlands concert. but- I do own one dance workout tape, have had it for 10 years, and love it. it's called 'world beat workout' and it's where I picked up what few formal 'tribal' steps I know from.

To Wii or not to Wii?

Thanks Silver, No LonePiper I don't keep a list, I don't have to. In the quid pro quo scenario you suggested "he does a favor for me but I won't do a favor for him" is where the scorekeeping takes place. Since my quids are heavily discounted and theirs are so few it's pointless to even think that way. So, back on point...the Wii is not making the trip if DS7 actually goes. After running it past the group here I've wavered on the whole thing. No doubt that SS30 will put this in his quid pro quo quiver, I have to sacrifice DS7's Wii plus games in exchange for the "childcare" to take pressure off of me and DH while he recovers from surgery (not one call this week by the way from either adult stepkid on how the surgery went or the hospital visit) plus the drive to where they live in the exurbs. (the land beyond true suburbs but in the same county. We are from California, big counties, long drives.) On semi positive note SD36 did keep DS7 overnight while DH and I were at hospital. Literally dropped him off at home this morning before dawn because of a business appointment for me to clean up, feed and turn around for school since I was at THEIR FATHER'S hospital last night. As the stepmother I've realized that their lack of involvement, lower abdominal feelings towards their dad has very little to do with me personally. And even less to do with DS other than thinking he is geting their free silver plated ride through life. They haven't even called their dad through all of this!!!! WTF? No Wii. I think DS will have more fun at home with real neighborhood friends than with these fake, adult 1/2 siblings and their offspring.

Wii Fit ....anyone?

I got bored within the first month with Wii Fit as did my DH...it's alot of fun but very repetitive after not too long. It is fun to compete for higher scores with yourself or partner. I have the EA Sports Active, but continue to read the good and bad reviews before I decide to open the package or take it back within my the 30 days receipt. No returns once opened. I didn't care for My Fitness Coach, but in all fairness should give it another try. The warm up were not good, you can't delete certain exercises (lunges for bad knees not recommended), and it's repetitive. If you decide to get the sports active, make sure you read the reviews on Amazon to know the PROS CONS about this package and there ARE a few big CONS. They are coming out with a new Active in December that works with the present one (from what I read). Suppose to have core exercises, skating, step aerobics (which I want), and alot more. We'll see. I do enjoy the boxing in the Fit & Wii Play as it gets your heart rate up in no time and tires you out, though they need to do something about the cord on the numchucks because it keeps slapping me in the face - a complaint of many also with EA Active. Note to others: If you want to ramp up your step aerobics on the Fit, place the balance board on another stepper or board of some kind (I use one of the old step platforms from Jane Fonda's workout back in the day), though you can buy the risers from Amazon or elsewhere.

I guess I should report back that we did buy the Wii Fit Plus and have each been using it almost every day for 20 - 30 minutes in the mornings. Now that the weather is nicer outside -- not too hot; not too cold -- we're using it less.

I agree with Linda. Her favorites are mine, too. My DH also likes the 'Table Tennis', 'Frisbee' and 'Basketball'. Our DGS, age 6, loves to play the 'Swordfight' and '100 Pin Bowling' games. (He has X-Box at home and sometimes plays those games in competition with his cousin in SLC. Amazing, huh?))

Glad to read that Beaw likes her Wii. I don't need to lose weight; need to gain *muscle*!

I have to thank this forum -- my 'go-to' place for real life information. We might not have bought this system without feedback here.
