I love scarves for dressing up an outfit. I wore them a lot in Europe as they are an extra layer...over the shoulders for the cathedral, over the head for a drizzle, around the neck if it's chilly, around the purse if it's hot... Below is a nice video for ideas about how to tie a scarf. However, I too am in the camp of no more turtlenecks...when I have a hot flash, it feels like strangulation. Scarves I can take off, but turtlenecks, I'm stuck. Such a shame as I have a zillion of them...I lived in them all winter when I was working...they look so great under a jacket, with or without a scarf, necklace or lapel pin... I have a couple of white shirts, but I have trouble finding them opaque enough, I never have them ironed so when I'm rushing to get dressed, I by pass them for something that doesn't need ironing, and with my coloring, the white is a washout on me so I have to add color besides. I also have to worry about length as I'm short...tunic shapes just cut me off. Then there's the boobage issue...button fronts can gape on me which also isn't fun. (I remember giving a talk one time, and the fellow in the front row was staring at my belly. I realized my shirt had gaped and he was seeing skin. At least it wasn't in the boob arena. Last time I did that! After that it was pullovers, button in the back, long scarves in front or camis underneath!) So for me, it's not a go to item, though I can see how it could be for someone else. Also, these days, I'm so into comfort that knits are by far my favorites...they move and stretch with me. When I wear wovens without any lycra in them, I feel like I'm fighting my clothes. I didn't try them, but was tempted....I was in walmart and see that Lee is making a super comfortable jean now out of very stretchy, very soft denim with almost a flannel like feel...a real cross between a legging and a jean...but they also had them boot cut. Next time I'm at the VF outlet, I'll have to take a look. Here is a link that might be useful: how to tie a scarf

I have one of the smaller 6k machines. For me how many clothes in a load depends on what color they are, what they are made of, and if I am washing items that fade and bleed. I did a few loads today. Two of them consisted of: White cotton under wear and socks: 13 T shirts 10 briefs 10 pairs of socks. 7 Handkerchiefs Temperature 140F Detergent amount 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons. cycle length 1 hour 37 minutes Dark blue Cottons: 7 pairs of athletic socks 2 sets of flannel PJ's 6 athletic T shirts 1 hooded sweat shirt 1 under wear brief Temperature 105F Detergent amount 2 teaspoons Cycle length 49 minutes. The other loads were a queen comforter and blankets. I have additional loads sorted to do some time this week They are: bright green cottons, dark green cottons, brown cottons, black cotton polo type shirts, tan cottons, grey cottons, medium blue Polartec fleece, black Lycra. None of these loads will completely fill the machine but I sort by fabric type and within type by color which means that I don't wash cotton and poly or spandex together because they don't dry at the same rate and cannot withstand the same water temperatures. I also keep dark blues separated from dark greens and reds and browns. So I basically keep all colors separated. The one exception is that I will wash bright yellow and green together. If I have polo shirts they will go into loads by themselves separated by color, which prevents a lot of wrinkling and no - I don't iron anything. Towels are washed together by color with no other type of garment. Polyester and synthetic materials go together and are not mixed with cottons. I didn't use to be this finicky about sorting until I had my washer fixed to drain into the laundry sink. Once I saw the amount of color transfer taking place in the wash water being pumped out I became very strict about color separation. These are the same type of loads I did when I had my TL so the amount of loads per week didn't increase or decrease when I switched to a FL. I also think the amount of clothes in a load will depend on how heavy and bulky the items are. I know instructions say to wash a mixed load. I don't think I have ever done this. I wash small items with large but try not to mix fabric types and extreme weight variations. I really don't have anything tangled.

Well Amcf, If you're crazy then I'm right in there w/ ya. I'd thought the same abt nice striped cotton pants which had worn out at the thighs. They're washed, pressed & wating for a project. I have no hubby to account to so I can do whatever I want. I once bought a size 8 sundress (not a size I ever fit) from a thrift shop 'cause it was made of 3 different indigo & white batiks, was GORGEOUS! Right front bodice was one, left front bodice another, back bodice a third & the skirt repeated one of the front bodices. I made a sampler to teach myself Flying Geese, made 3 columns, sashed w/ indigo solid, all on a white ground w/ binding of one of the other patterns. Cost me $5 or 10, was great! Can you go buy a duplicate pair, wear one & quilt the other? Otherwise, maybe cut them down to sort shorts (w/ which to entice him) & make quilts from the legs? See -- told ya you're not alone!

Flannel shirt, I guess (though I'm not exactly an afficionado of the season[s] in which I need it). Temp has been 56 - 60 or so in house in recent evenings ... and it's too early to turn on the furnace, yet. Five layers on the torso does the job ... and a washcloth with a safety pin to make a loop to go over my wrist so the fingers on the mouse don't freeze ('tother hand sits under the butt, on occasion as required). ole joyfuelled
