Did you see the Today Show this morning?

I turned on the Today Show this morning, something I don't do very often. I'm glad I did. They had a story about Amazon.com and how it was selling a pedophile how-to book called "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover's Code of Conduct."

Outraged people have been boycotting Amazon, and at the time of the Today Show, they hadn't removed it from their available books, but I just checked todayshow.com and it says they've removed it now. Amazon apparently refused at first, stating that they didn't want to remove the book and that removing it would be censorship.

This is not an urban legend or a chain e-mail. I normally buy quite a bit of stuff from amazon.com, especially at Christmas, but I'll never buy ANYTHING from them again. Just below the headline on the story it says that another book "advocating adult-child sex is still available" at Amazon. I'll attach the Today Show's story here....

Yep, its true. Country Bumpkin posted about it yesterday. It is positively unreal that you could even THINK to sell something like this.

It was on our news too. In the past I never had much reason to order anything from amazon.com, but......my husband just bought me a Kindle a couple of weeks ago, and I think Amazon is the only place I can order books for it.

msjam, My Jude gets about 4-5 hours of sun here in Dallas. I just planted him last year and he did great except after the last flush of flowers the plant just stopped growing. It didn't look bad, it just didn't put our anymore new growth at all. My other roses were still going strong and they are all in the same bed. I thought maybe it died. I pruned it back pretty far in March and now it is totally leafed out with about 25 buds on him. I don't know what happened last year, but maybe that is why he didn't get any taller than 3'.

Thanks so much, Lori, for sponsoring the "Tampa Swap". I really enjoyed meeting and putting faces to those I follow on GardenWeb. We stopped at Crowley's on our way home and all I can say is, WOW!!! We met Kathy Crowley and she helped us with our selections and then squeezing them into the car. It was almost as neat as the swap. I got a couple of vines I had been looking for. I feel like King Midas with all his gold with all the neat and unusual plants I got at the swap. When we got home it was raining pitchforks and so we got up early this am, before light almost, and planted the bareroot stuff. The stuff in pots is going to have to wait until about Tuesday if the weatherman knows what he is talking about. But I am not complaining about the rain. See you at the next swap! Bill

I saw bits of it but kept getting bored and surfing off because few of the projects were of any use to me at all, and the 'tude of "only $5,000!" that got to Oceanna made me twitch too. About the only thing I really found interesting was the same fix that brutuses did, the convert-recessed-to-pendant fixture, although that's probably because I am notoriously passionate in my loathing of "ceiling acne"! I knew about the conversion kits where you can easily rewire a recessed can into an attachment point for a pendant, flush/semiflush or small chandelier - one is called the Can Converter - but that's the first one I've seen that just screws into the socket. I am pretty sure that fixture is from A Well Hung Light (love the name! LOL). I also found another sort that has a corded pendant instead of a rigid pole, made by Worth Home Products, and they are cheaper but the style selection is quite skimpy.

I've used chapstick off and on for years and I have found the medicated kind to be very soothing. I don't use it all the time, just when I've been out in the wind. Riding in an air-conditioned car for long distances always chaps my lips too. I have sensitive skin and there are a lot of products I just can't use. I don't wear lipstick except for special occasions and sometimes not even then. Doris Day (you younger ones probably won't know even who she is though) said at one time that she covers her whole body with vaseline and sleeps in something like a body stocking and gloves. I don't know if she was married at the time but I bet that's a real turn-off for a guy, huh? But anyway, there are natural alternatives to petroleum products. Good old olive oil, for instance. Or open up a Vitamin E oil capsule and smear it on. I'm not sure about that "Tea Tree Oil" thing though. Is there really such a thing as a "Tea Tree"? It kind of tastes like Castor Oil with almond flavoring in it. The truth of the matter is, we none of us know what's in some of these products we put on our skin. And yes the makers of these products would most definitely sell us something that's not good for us (and charge us big bucks for it) because they don't give a rip about whatever damage it does as long as they don't get sued because of it. The almighty dollar is always the bottom line. We must be our own advocates. The best thing to do is to just keep it as simple as you can. Use as many one- or two-ingredient products as you can. Good old witch hazel is what I used as an astringent during my oily skin days. Buy things without fragrance and without artificial coloring whenever possible. The secret to good skin is actually good health.

Everything is about sex these days~~~~~~WHY??? I watch the TLC channel for the dr type shows,mystery diagnosis etc,then lately i turn that channel on and the shows are about how to have great orgasms,how to have a 3 some etc.Why do they think we need all that crap,people have been having sex for thousands of years and we never needed tv to tell us how or when.To add insult to injury these shows are coming on early enough that kids are still up!!

Then yesterday i turned on dr oz and his show was about your errogenous zones and sex stuff,hello,it's the dinner hour when he comes on here,and i don't want to see that kind of stuff them or any other time.

No i'm not a prude,but i am 72 and i've seen a lot in my life,but this is too much.As i said this is JMO,and you all are entitled to yours!!

I just joined the Boycott Amazon on Facebook! OK..Amazon doesn't believe in censorship...but I'm wondering if they believe they can keep their business afloat...with NO business! lol We can all make choices..them included!

This makes me angry, have been buying stuff from Amazon for years. Even have a friend who works at one in NV.

IMO, Amazon just shot themselves in the foot over a no-brainer situation. I need to look up the first ammendment, but being a non-governmental agency, wouldn't Amazon have every right NOT to sell a book? I assume this is about Amazon's decision, and not a legal mandate. (?)

Kathi mdgd, I agree with you. Totally. And I don't believe the line that 'it has ALWAYS been this way, its just that its reported faster nowadays'.
